more angry open letters

*Hey there, Cuffy  readers.  I think you'll like this, when I thought today couldn't be more entertaining, I saw this, and was proven wrong.

Seems like there are a lot of angry open letters flying around today, first Alex Cord railing against Ace, and now some lefty columnist in Philly is railing against ABC.  This Mike Bunch guy is pretty agitated, look,

It's hard because -- like many other Americans -- I am still angry at what I just witnesses, so angry that it's hard to even type accurately because my hands are shaking.

The bold is mine, seriously, this guy was that upset by it?  Awesome.

Let's see what else he has to say,

Indeed, if I were a citizen of one of those nations where America is seeking to "export democracy," and I had watched the debate, I probably would have said, "no thank you." Because that was no way to promote democracy.

Seems many of your friends want to say "no thank you" to democracy too.  He then goes on to whine about ABC not talking about the usual pablum that he thinks should have been talked about. Which we all know would have made for the same excruciating fairly lockstep repetitions of liberal dogma we've had in pretty much every damn debate.  All this anger stems from one thing.  ABC made a change in their debate approach, and the Obama cultists in particular aren't happy about it, because it damaged their guy worse than Hillary.

You asked about gun control -- phrased to try for a "gotcha" in a state where that's such a divisive issue -- but not about what we really care about, which is how to reduce crime.

Awww, is the Philly Marxist angry that ABC asked a question that's  politically relevant in PA?  You aren't mad because it's "not what you care about", you're mad because it did damage to Hillary and even moreso Obama, particularly for the general.  We both know these two just made themselves fodder for Pro-2nd 527's (because we all know McCain doesn't have it in him to go on the attack).

But I'm not surprised a Philly guy is angry about bringing up guns. After all, his city has been trying to undermine gun rights in PA for years and not gotten anywhere, culminating in the current mayor signing a bunch of new gun control laws in direct violation of PA gun law.  Philly liberals know gun control is a political loser in PA better than anyone.

Beyond that, you see what TNR and I see, and you're scared.  You and I know that the socially conservative Democrats here are going to break for McCain because Obama and Hillary can't convince them they aren't gonna totally burn them on guns and social issues.

Okay, this is good too,

Here's a question for you, George. Is it true that yesterday you appeared on the radio with conservative talk radio host Sean Hannity, and that you said you were "taking notes" when he urged you to ask a question about Obama's supposed ties to a former member of the Weather Underground -- which in fact you did? With all the fabulous resources of ABC News at your disposal, is that an appropriate way for a supposed journalist to come up with debate questions - by pandering to divisive radio shows?

Okay, I've been pretty brutal in criticizing Sean Hannity over the years, but if he got the ABC crew to ask that question, he gets big credit for that, both Hillary and Obama did some serious damage to each other during that little exchange.  This is great,

Quickly, a word to any and all of my fellow journalists who happen to read this open letter: This. Must. Stop. Tonight, if possible.

Translation: DON'T. EVER. GIVE. THE. WINGNUTS. FREE. SOUNDBITES. AGAIN.  RRRRRRAAAAAAAAGGGGHHH!!!!!

And this his ending is just utterly priceless

Charlie, I'm going to sign off this letter the way that you always sign off the news, that "I hope you had a great day."

Because America just had a horrible night.

Such impotent rage!  This is the best primary ever.

I can't wait for the Democrat Convention.

the exception to the rule

I linked this post in the Moronosphere Links today, but I wanted to expand and suggest why I think it's a little wrong, at least in PA, and why this Bitter thing is damaging to Obama.  He is absolutely right that most Democrats do have the same kind of disdain for the average guy that Obama prominently displayed in his Bitter comments in San Fransisco.  However, things work a bit differently in PA.  There are a lot of Democrats in PA (and other places) who are at least cultural moderate, if not somewhat conservative.  A lot of Democrats here are fairly or even solidly pro-2nd, somewhat or even solidly social conservative.

You can look at guys like Bob "Hey, My Dad Was Governor" Casey Jr. and his father as that principle at work.  Had Casey Jr. been an aggro pro-choice gun-grabber, he would have never won in PA.  There is a reason that Obama was leaning very heavily on Casey and other PA Democrats for support, even before the Bitter fiasco.

So why don't these people become GOP?  The reason is a lot of them work in failing industries.  They know that the industries they work in can't compete in a free market.  They're also very tied to their community and the industry, they don't want to leave, they don't want to work in a different job, they, er don't want change.

I'd say most of these types of voters don't buy the New Left philosophy, a good number of them are old school Democrats.  Some are gonna sway depending on what in their interests is more threatened, their culture and lifestyle, or their financial situation.  When Obama starts making noise about guns (in particular) and religion and trashing their lifestyle, and already has a suspect track record on those issues, that makes him the bigger threat and works in the GOP's favor.  They'll only swallow New Left crap up to a certain point, Obama has given them too much.

Obama failed to see what a liability that was in PA, Hillary (or her handlers) did or do see it, she's hedged herself a bit, particularly on guns, which is why she is going to stomp him here come the April primary, and why he'll never win here in November.

Note, this isn't all of PA's Democrats, only some of them, there are lots of New Left people here too, like in the Soviet of Philly.

Hmm, seems The New Republic sees what I see...and they're nervous. (H/T Moron-in-Chief)

No, you can't have Moronpundit's pie.

To an extent, I agree with this, but in PA politics, it isn't necessarily so, which is why I think Obama is in trouble for the Bitter comment.  More on douchebaggy lefty elitism.

The Stormin' Mormon Muslihoon on the challenge LDS members face as people become curious about the church and how to respond to critics.  I would say that when I read this,

One tendency I have noticed over my years of surfing the Internets is that very often discussions about the Church deteriorates into a contentious shouting match between enemies of the Church and its members. This is not right or good.

I'd add, there are plenty of folks who aren't LDS who jump in to these arguments to offer some defense from a third party perspective.  I found myself doing it several times when Romney was running and the inevitable Mormon-trashing would flare up.

FAIL

While not on the Official Moronosphere blogroll(I'll have CB put them on if they want)  Old Iron at The Bar Slaves has a pic that defines EPIC FAIL.  Think of The Bar Slaves as methadone to Wickedpinto's heroin, not quite Pinto, but a similar high.

Baldi on digging up Obama's commie father.  I agree with her, it's irrelevant, the guy wasn't involved in Obama's life.  Obama and his father walk a parallel path politically speaking, but they never cross.

Students call for concealed carry, university police chief acts like sniveling douche.

More fun with Global Warming hysteria.

McCain to adopt Fred's tax plan?

Wyatt says bring back glass soda bottles, I agree.  I understand there are places in New England that still do the glass bottles, but that's about it.  Don't even get me started on aluminum cans...blech.  I don't care what anyone says, they leave a taste.

Heh.

Funneh.

Liberal policy directed at windmills become real monsters.

Media tries to blame video games for V-Tech massacre on one year anniversary, I'm not sure if this surprises me or not.  Part of me wonders how many will blame guns, and how many will keep their traps shut out of fear of stirring up pro-Second people on a presidential election year.

Cuffy notices something I thought might happen in Michelle Obama's Colbert segment.

Did these guys steal my bitter beer face joke?  You'll have to watch and tell me, I can take them for about three seconds before I want to smash in my monitor.

Berlusconi winsFor those confused about the title, Berlusconi stated that he didn't think anyone was retarded enough to vote for the lefty opposition this election, which caused a bit of a stir in the press.  He has a bit of a track record of saying things that give media types the vapors.  You've gotta love Berusconi, he just says whatever comes to mind.

blogger protection act?

At The Eggman's place, I hadn't heard of this, but I think it needs to get out there.  The Act would basically give us the same sorts of legal protections the media has.

As for the bill...the good news, all of the supporters of the bill are GOP...the bad news, there aren't that many on board yet.  I hope that bloggers become aware of this thing, this isn't just something for conservatives to get behind, this seems like something even the lefty blogs would benefit from.

Funneh.

Baldi on Obama, people buying the Obama hype, and some conservatives falling into a bad habit of viewing black America as a collective group.  I think she's right that some conservatives at least subconsciously bought the nice guy post-racial image Obama brought.

Some of the anger toward the guy is over the top, and some feeling of betrayal might be causing that over the top reaction.  I would say that there are some conservatives who probably reacted in a hurt manner, not because of they bought the post-racial hype and felt betrayed, but because they bought the hype that he was a civil guy. I'd say they feel betrayed because they now know that was all bullshit too.  I think they were looking for a nostalgic Tip O'Neill/Reagan(not that I even remember the Reagan years, but I always hear this as the example)  type adversarial-but civil relationship and were disappointed that this guy didn't end up being that.  They bought the post-partisan rhetoric, at least subconsciously.

I can say, I never bought the Obama hype to the extent that I'd be hurt when I found out he was full of shit, but that probably has to do with the fact that I tend to be generally distrustful of people, and even moreso with politicians.  I did think he was a somewhat decent guy, in that you could be civil with him, but I was never smitten with him enough to be hurt when that turned out to be crap.  He can still get bent for trashing my state and home.

Israel refuses to provide anti-semite douchebag security.

just when you thought dr phil couldn't be a bigger tool

He surprises you again.  Remember that group of kids who decided to beat the hell out of some girl and post videos of it on youtube?  Dr. Phil posted bail for the ringleader.

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x73/doubleplusundeadmeenu/o_rly-ya-rly.jpg

I'm guessing he made a deal with her or her parents that she has to go on his stupid show for the bail money.  The article is pretty short and makes that same speculation, which is a safe one, because why the hell else would he do it?  You would think this guy would have learned after the Britney Spears PR disaster not to get himself mixed up in these things...but I guess not.
