USAID Forced to Make Drastic Cutbacks in Food Supplies to Starving Peoples so Progressive Environmentalist Douchebags Can Feel Good About Themselves
Small brewers were just the tip of the iceberg. The price of grain has skyrocketed because huge amounts of it are going into the money sink and farce known as ethanol production. USAID, which many of the world's poorest people rely on for sustenance is having to cut back on the number of countries and people they give food aid to as a result of a 41% spike in grain costs. USAID is projected to go $200 million overbudget already, but they aren't even going to be able to get as much done as they did in the past.
This story doesn't cite ethanol production as the reason for the price spike, but we know that's what it is, because that was cited as a reason for spikes in operating costs for small brewers in the US, its the same commodity. But hey, out there somewhere, some progressive environmentalist is feeling great about doing their part to fight Global Warming.

Well said. I honestly didn't know you had this same thought as I did.
It is a shame that liberals will do this to the poorest out there so that they can feel good.

Of course, it's an open question whether sending tons of food every year to the same damn places is doing anybody any good, but yes...it's no secret why prices have gone up.
The cost of bread has doubled in the UK. And eggs are up, too...what do chickens eat?

They eat other chickens, Weas. Ground up into tiny little pieces.
Hmm...I'm thinkin' Popeye's for dinner!
Anyway, milk has gotten really expensive around here. I don't drink it myself, but the boy does. At least, he used to, when he could afford it.
I've read a few accounts that claim that ethanol actually produces more pollution than gasoline. Someone reliable needs to investigate and find out if that's really true, and if so, plaster it all over the media and get this garbage ended.

Yeah, good luck, once farmers bury their claws into a subsidy, it'll take a hell of a fight to get them back out. Oddly enough, that's one of the few things I could see McCain doing effectively...
