City Officials From America's Biggest Hellhole Complain About Being Called America's Biggest Hellhole

Officials from Detroit are complaining that a study showing their crappy city is the most dangerous hellhole in America is unfair.  I doubt it is, Detroit is a bombed out hellhole, and everyone knows it.  They complain that because they report their crimes a different way than other cities, it skews the results to their disadvantage.  Yeah, sounds like a lame excuse to me too.  And I'm not just picking on Michigan and Detroit, I mean, Philly is the Detroit of Pennsylvania, after all.

Concrete Company Puts Up Funny Ad, Panties Quickly Wad

See, this is why we can't have fun things.  Someone always bitches.  This time, a concrete company put up an ad with a slogan "Wife need new shoes?"  followed by their company logo.  Well, after being up for a whole day, someone at the YWCA saw it and threw a tantrum because it made light of domestic violence or somesuch crap, she immediately called up the mayor and started bitching, the mayor called the concrete guy, the concrete guy called the whiny YWCA rep.  Concrete guy says it was no big deal, most women realized it was a goofy joke, but YWCA lady is still engaged in PC whining. 

His sister-in-law came up with it because she was a Sopranos fan, and his wife thought it was funny, he tested the ad with lots of people and had no complaints.  As is typical, it only takes one uptight tool to ruin everyone else's fun. 

I like this, its so typical of news reporters, he feels the need to explain the whole cement shoes, because apparently people are too stupid to figure it out,

“Cement shoes,” according to online encyclopedia Wikipedia, is a slang term adopted by the American Mafia crime world for a method of execution that involves weighting down a victim and throwing him or her into the water to drown. “It has become adopted in the United States as a humorous term representing any exotic threat from criminals,” Wikipedia said.

He used Wiki?  Don't get me wrong, I use Wiki all the time, but I'm a spinoff moronblogger, but a newspaper?  If you're doing a professional piece in a paper and getting paid, use something better...of course I think Tony Blankley came up with the idea that Ace's was a milblog from Wiki, because that's the only place I'd seen AoS referred to as a milblog.  So be careful using Wiki as an official source!

Anyway, the concrete guy says he'll change the ad in a few weeks, but won't elaborate...I hope its brutal.

CBS News Writers Vote to Authorize Strike

A little over 80% of the 300 guild members voted in favor of authorizing the strike.  We'll have to see where it goes from here, it seems foolish, CBS News and the other network news agencies have been declining in a big way over the past few years as people switch to cable news or the intarwebs. 


CBS News and CBS haven't been able to create a new contract setup for two years.

Seems like if the CBS News divisions go on strike, they'd be bargaining from a position of weakness.  Again, while they have significant viewership, its been dropping steadily.  The only thing they would stand a prayer on is the threat that they'd do PR damage to CBS, but I doubt they'll get anywhere if CBS holds steady, as it looks like the Hollywood producers are doing.  

The only other thing I can come up with is that the Unions hoping that the threat of not having a functioning News division during the 2008 election will scare the execs into compliance, but that well will run dry in the longterm if CBS holds firm.

These strikes by union members are never gonna get the kind of support that they once had, because most people aren't union, and most people don't sympathize with unions anymore.  Unions are weakening because most people see them as self-defeating or mindlessly greedy, willing to destroy a business rather than compromise on benefits, or are used to moving from job to job, looking for better opportunity. 

Oh, and I love this,

The union said its employees have not had a pay raise since April 2004.

A 10 year old boy was eating a Tesco sausage, and he bit on what turned out to be a human tooth.  Now, click on that, and tell me, what's nastier, the tooth, or the sausage itself?

Tickets to See 'Hannah Montana' Go For $13,000

What is this show, I'm out of the loop on what little kids are into, but I see crap with Hannah Montana tacked onto it everywhere when I go to stores.  I know its Disney, but honestly, the only thing I know of Disney of late is the utter failure of a CEO Eisner was, and the star of a different Disney show flashing her hooha in a pic that got sold to tabloids.

Four tickets were sold on some morning FM radio show for the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital, which is a children's cancer center, so at least its going to a good cause.  Its a bit more than just tickets, apparently its a backstage pass to see the cast too, but holy shit, dude, thirteen grand?  I hope this family has money, cuz 13K is a hell of a lot of cash to drop like that. 

Beyond that, is just more teeny-bopper crap?  Would you really wanna pay 13K for that?  Seems like too much, and they'll someday look back and go, "I paid 13K for that?"  Of course, I'm amazed Rush's Harry Reid letter sold for as much as it did...but then, we knew that lady was filthy rich.

Reporter Sorta Concedes: DCs Nanny Gun Ban A Failure In Policy

First off, the title of the piece,

Effectiveness of D.C. gun ban still a mystery

And yet, that's not really that true, at least, that's not what I read.  It reads a bit like a concession once you get going.

The reporter starts out by noting that one of the first things DC did when it received the right to have a mayor and city council was enact their strict gun bans, the worst being a total ban on handguns.  The Globe asks the rhetorical question,

All these years later, with the constitutionality of the ban now probably headed for a US Supreme Court review, a much-debated practical question remains unsettled: Has a law aimed at reducing the number of handguns in the District made city streets safer?

So tell us, what were your findings?

Although studies through the decades have reached conflicting conclusions, this much is clear: The ban, passed with strong public support in 1976, has not accomplished everything the mayor and council of that era wanted it to.

Over the years, gun violence has continued to plague the city, reaching staggering levels at times.

Liberal to Standard American English translation:  Awwww....Goddammit, the wingnut gun guys were right.

In making by far their boldest public policy decision, Washington's first elected officials wanted other jurisdictions, especially neighboring states, to follow the lead of the nation's capital by enacting similar gun restrictions, cutting the flow of firearms into the city from surrounding areas. 

"We were trying to send out a message," recalled Sterling Tucker, the council chairman at the time.

Nadine Winters, also a council member then, said, "My expectation was that this being Washington, it would kind of spread to other places, because these guns, there were so many of them coming from Virginia and Maryland."

This may be shocking to the former members of the DC city council, some people in this country actually don't choke on the sweet, sweet air of liberty.  Difficult to wrap your head around, I know, but its true!

Opponents of the ban, who won a March ruling in which the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit declared the law unconstitutional, said in a legal filing that the District's "31-year experiment with gun prohibition" has been a "complete failure."

They of course note that the other side says its stopped crimes committed with guns, and say that its up to social science studies to see what effect its had.  Then we get to this,

"It's a pretty common-sense idea that the more guns there are around, the more gun violence you'll have," D.C. Attorney General Linda Singer said.

"One of the difficult things is, you can't measure what didn't happen," Singer said. "You can't measure how many guns didn't come into the District because we have this law."

So, our reporter looks at what has happened in the city since the ban was enacted. 

In 1977, the first full year of the ban, the city recorded 192 homicides. The total rose to 223 in 1981, then fell to 147 in 1985 - the lowest annual homicide toll in the District since 1966. At the time, the rate for the country also was trending down.

I wonder if our reporter sought out the homicide rates before the ban took place.  Whatever, this is a good start, his head might have exploded if he experienced that much truth in one dose.  Or maybe he did and


He couldn't handle the truth!

Anyway, before you go,  Hey! That shows a downward trend....

Which turned out to be the calm before the slaughter.

Hee.  I love this guy, he's a reporter for a major paper, but he throws in corny lines like he's still writing for a local newscast. 

The advent of the crack market and the unprecedented street violence it unleashed nationwide sent homicide rates soaring in the latter half of the 1980s. Not only did the number of killings surge in the District, the homicide rates here also far exceeded the rates in crack-ridden cities where handguns had not been banned.

Even the mayor of DC was a crackhead.  And note, in between goofing on the Mayor of the District of Crackheads, that he notes that DC had a much higher rate of homicide than other cities without gun bans. 

In the peak year, 1991, the District reported 482 homicides.

A period of turbulence in a city where people have no means to defend themselves, and the yearly number of murders skyrockets?  No kidding.

Almost as sharply as violence in the District increased, it declined through the 1990s, a drop researchers attributed to the burning out and aging of a generation of crack dealers and users. Again, the shift reflected national trends.

Yet the gun culture on the city's mean streets during the crack epidemic has not abated, police statistics show. Even as the homicide toll declined in D.C. after 1991, the percentage of killings committed with firearms remained far higher than it was when the ban was passed.

Guns were used in 63 percent of the city's 188 slayings in 1976. Last year, out of 169 homicides, 81 percent were shootings.

In other words, people inclined toward a life of crime learned that guns are a pretty effective way to get what you want, and because the leftist Nannies that run DC forced all the law-abiding citizens to beat their swords into plowshares, criminals own the swords and own the streets.

Former Pro-Wrestler On Trial For Forced Prostitution Ring

Harrison "Hardbody" Norris Jr. (God that is an awful name) is accused of forcefully keeping nine women at his home, taking them to Latino clubs, trailer parks and parties to look for johns, and in some cases, forced into orgies with multiple men.  The women were homeless prior to meeting with Norris, and claim he had promised to teach them the basics of pro-wresting, but it turned out he was assembling a prostitution ring. 

The women stated in court that he would claim they had debts, and no matter how much business they did, they couldn't seem to pay them down.  Norris' neighbor claims that the women seemed to come and go as they pleased, and didn't look unhappy or indicate they were being held. 

Norris argues he had no reason to pimp, because he won approximately $1 million in a settlement as part of a racial discrimination suit against the WCW and had no reason to engage in illegal activity.

LA Times and Hustler Sitting On Hillary Is A Lesbo Stories?

So this guy claims.  We shall see.  This doesn't look like a big gossip site, so it could be just traffic whoring, but we shall see.  They claim something will come out soon. 

If it does, and there's concrete proof, or at least a enough reliable witnesses that its obviously true, it puts a big dent in the Hildebeest's campaign. 

The Teflon Pantsuit has avoided nearly everything thrown at her, but if concrete proof came out that her marriage was truly a political arrangement and it stuck, it could utterly destroy her character in the public eye.  The biggest criticism of Hillary is that she's a cold, soulless, unscrupulous, calculating person, who will do whatever she can to get ahead, regardless of morals, this would confirm it in a way that leftist spinmeisters couldn't handle. 

Its not as much the fact she'd be having a lesbian relationship that would hurt her politically as much as it would the dishonesty.  Had she divored Bill, started anew and came out, it probably wouldn't matter, sure, she'd never be President, but she'd have likely won her NY seat, and remained a powerful Senator.

That said, if it comes out she's having lesbian affairs, it will hurt her politically, maybe public discomfort about homosexuality would be enough to sink her presidency alone, but I think that the fact that it would be confirming all the worst that has been said about Hillary's character would be most devastating, particularly in the longterm.

As for the veracity of the stories, its possible that LA Times has something, in fact I wouldn't be surprised.  They are the same people that pursued the Hsu fundraising story in a big way.  I'm sure they're real twitchy about putting it up, because the heat that would come down on them would be harsh.  But on the flipside, they've been plummeting in revenue and sales, so where else to go, but to report on what everyone else refuses to?  Most papers seem to be content going down in flames with their bias intact, maybe the LA Times is the exception, and is trying to recover some credibility?

As for Hustler, its no secret that Flynt has favored the Democrats for a long time, and his longstanding offers for cash for juicy details of hypocritical sexual behavior from politicians has pretty exclusively been a bludgeon against GOP elite. 

But before you dismiss the possibility that Larry Flynt would never skewer a Democrat, don't forget, Hillary is known for occasionally dipping into that Tipper Gore type populist approach to sexual, violent or otherwise controversial entertainment, she's taken swipes at video game producers in the past, as a gamer, that I know.

That's gotta make a guy like Flynt nervous, because for someone like Hillary, who is so calculating and looking to make big change, she's gonna need to occasionally dip into the populist pot to boost her poll numbers, and there's few things better for that than slapping around pornographers.

Taking swipes at pornographers sounds like something that would probably fit into the "It Takes a Village" playbook.  Any type of move like that will hurt an establishment franchise like Hustler infinitely more than the internet operations, which will simply go more amateur, black market, move underground or move overseas, which is his primary competition to begin with.

A New Twist On An Old Classic

Anybody who reads stupid and frivolous news stories on the 'tubes knows the classic "I was too drunk to drive, so I had my young kid do it" story where the kid is swerving around or driving poorly, the cops pull them over, and its on the local news the next day.  Well, this one's got a twist,

A police officer checking on a truck that got stuck in the mud at a city park was startled to find a 13-year-old boy behind the wheel. The officer also was surprised that the boy appeared to be drunk.

So did the teen's father, who was riding in the front seat. He told police that he had turned over the driving duties to his son because he'd had too much to drink.

Open containers of beer and liquor were found in the vehicle, said Clio Police Chief James McLellan.

"(The boy) even said he didn't want to drive because he was too drunk," McLellan told The Flint Journal for a story published Thursday.

The father is facing several misdemeanors, child endangerment, allowing a minor to drive without a licence and allowing an intoxicated person drive his vehicle.  The kid is heading to juvie court to face DUI and other charges.

Horror: Saudi Woman Gets 200 Lashes For Getting Gang-Raped

This is what I hate most about fundamentalist Islam. 

The 19-year-old woman -- whose six armed attackers have been sentenced to jail terms -- was initially ordered to undergo 90 lashes for "being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape," the Arab News reported.

But in a new verdict issued after Saudi Arabia's Higher Judicial Council ordered a retrial, the court in the eastern town of Al-Qatif more than doubled the number of lashes to 200

So six armed guys overpower and rape her, and you sick fucks are gonna lash her for it?  When it comes to Saudi Arabia, I'm going to actually agree with the militant feminists, kill all the men first.

Last year, the court sentenced six Saudi men to between one and five years in jail for the rape as well as ordering lashes for the victim, a member of the minority Shiite community.

But the woman's lawyer Abdul Rahman al-Lahem appealed, arguing that the punishments were too lenient in a country where the offence can carry the death penalty.

In the new verdict issued on Wednesday, the Al-Qatif court also toughened the sentences against the six men to between two and nine years in prison.

Two to nine years?  Goddamn you fucking animals, they oughta be lifers or hanging.

The case has angered members of Saudi Arabia's Shiite community. The convicted men are Sunni Muslims, the dominant community in the oil-rich Gulf state.

So beyond being animals, they're bigoted animals?  The treatment of women in the Middle East is horrifying, and we need to demand better.  If we can't do it on official channels, we need to do it as a people.  We might not be able to stop this horror right now, but we need to make it clear that the first chance we get, we will change it, and these women will never have to be afraid again.

University of New Mexico Students Whining About Cuts in Birth Control Funding

Lessee,

University of New Mexico students are worried the federal deficit is going to cause a boom in unwanted pregnancies.

Translation:  We're worried that we're gonna lose our cheap birth control and pass to engage in otherwise risky sexual behavior, and that we might have to either sacrifice our personal luxuries or get our parents to spring for it, and we don't wanna do that.

The cost of birth control has more than doubled, since the Deficit Reduction Act, which cut subsidies for birth control to colleges and universities. 

"Birth control is probably the largest preventative measure of abortion and unwanted pregnancies, just because it's safe, it's affordable," UNM Molly Maguire-Marshall said.  "Sometimes it's accessible, and we want to keep it that way.

"We want to keep it affordable; we want to keep it accessible to college students."

Okay, so assemble a charity so people can donate to subsidize birth control.  Why should the taxpayers pay for your birth control?

Restoring the funds will reduce the squeeze on cash-strapped students, added Ambrosia Ortiz.

"So they don't have to make a choice between their birth control and their cell phone bill or their birth control and their gym membership and their birth control," Ortiz said.  "These are choices women that women shouldn't have to make.

"Birth control should be very affordable."

Oh, I see.  Its not that you can't afford it, its that you don't want to pay for it, and students that engage in risky sexual activity at UNM shouldn't be burdened with the choice and responsibility to pay, right? 

The students also were accepting donations trying to raise enough money to offset the price of the increase for those students who can't afford birth control now.

There you go, now follow through with it, not so hard, is it?  Just do that, and you can have your subsidized birth control without forcing people to pay for it with government force! 

The students said they expect that expect with enough, the Prevention Through Affordable Access Act can pass because it is a technical correction to the deficit reduction act and wouldn't cost taxpayers a penny more.

There is no free lunch.

Philly Area Nanny Staters Stricken With Gun Panic, Ban Billboards For Movie 'Hitman'

Philly-area Nannies once again saw something that looked like a firearm, and had a case of Gun Panic.  They continue their war against anything gun related because they refuse to face the real reasons their city is a crime infested hellhole.  Yesterday, it was toy guns, today its billboards with ads for the movie Hitman, based on the video game series (no, I don't know if the consistently awful Uwe Boll directed it). 

IN A CITY with a real-life gun problem, ads glorifying gun violence to sell movies can be particularly sickening. So we're glad to report that some in City Hall are taking it personally and saying, "Enough is enough."

No, you don't have a gun problem, numbnuts.  You have a gang, crime, social and poverty problem in Philly.  I've been thinking about this in a serious way, and I think I understand what the Nanny Staters are.

Nanny Staters can't accept living in a world where Free Will exists and there are consequences to the person who abuses that Free Will, so they'd rather deny Free Will for all than face and condemn those who abuse free will.  Ultimately they believe Free Will is a punishment to humanity, and an unfair burden upon it. 

Billboards and SEPTA bus ads for the movie "Hitman" went up a few weeks ago. They show a man pointing a gun, with a nearly naked woman draped over him.

Ah, they're even trying to appeal to the right wing's Morality Police.  You see what they're doing guys?  If you are concerned about risque content and violence in entertainment, don't fall for this, they'll tie themselves to you and take down what you love with it, you might wanna curb it, but don't let yourself get sucked in to doing it this way.

Bill O'Reilly played along with an anti-Second Amendment zealot on his show, who I should note was harassing a gun store owner and got arrested with Jesse Jackson during a protest, you shouldn't work with them like Bill did.  In fact, you shouldn't be anything like them.  If you read this piece and felt it hit close to home, you may wanna take time and reflect on why it did.

According to Mayor Street's office, some police officers who saw the ads cried foul. Understandable, since many of them had probably just come back from the funeral of Officer Chuck Cassidy, killed by gunshot.

Cassidy was killed by a criminal, who used a gun.  Someone pulled the trigger. 

You notice the interesting disconnect in logic with Nanny Staters, had the  officer been killed by, as an example, say, getting run down with a criminal's car, they wouldn't have written, "killed by a vehicle,"  They would have written something like "the criminal ran down and killed the officer with his car." 

When the crime is committed with the gun, the unnatural disconnect follows, because for the Nanny Stater, its not the criminal's fault for using a gun to kill Officer Cassidy, the gun is simply too convenient and too powerful a means for a criminal to abuse their Free Will. 

The Nanny Staters cannot destroy Free Will, so they must do the next best thing, which is destroy the means to channel Free Will, and a firearm, whether its used for benevolent or malevolent purpose, is a powerful means to enact Free Will.

In a sense, the weapon is irrelevent, its not the firearm, its Free Will they are at war with, and that is why they hate weapons so much, even something as benign as a cap gun or a billboard, because a weapon and its use is one of the most powerful expressions of Free Will.  Next to free speech and thought, it probably is the most powerful expression of Free Will, and even something like a toy or billboard can be a reminder of that, that is why they fear them.

But we think the mayor and Clear Channel deserve credit for pushing back against the cultural tsunami of images that romanticize and sexualize gun violence - and leave the rest of us to clean up the real-life blood.

We'd like to thank Big Brother for working to liberate us from the cruel burden Free Will inflicts on us, and an Official Nanny State Pat On The Head(ONSPOTH) for Clear Channel for being nice little doggies and rolling over when asked.

Science Strikes Back at Nanny Staters!

I've long believed that the objective, long-term goal of the Nanny State is to achieve their authoritarian ideals by waging a slow campaign to suck every ounce of joy out of our lives by banning whatever it is that gives us pleasure for health or safety reasons.  We saw a vicious attack by the Nanny State on the tastiest of foods in this piece, and you can find all the pieces I've done on different Nanny State actions, just think of something your Nanny Overlords want to take away from you, and search for it in the Search, its probably there.

The good folks at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University could have taken the Official Nanny State Pat On The Head, but rejected it!

Turns out, bacon, sausage and other eeeevil processed meats can provide nitrates which actually help your heart fight off muscle death if you have a heart attack.  While vegetables are the heathiest source of nitrite and nitrate, its not the end of the world if you enjoy delicious crispy smoky bacon and other tasty meats.  Beyond that, the concern over nitrate and nitrite causing cancer has been overstated! 

The takeaway, Bacon is not the Antichrist, and you can enjoy life, Suck it Nanny Staters!

Indoctrinate U Sued and Derailed

Odd that, I thought dissent was patriotic.  I guess not when you dare question the liberal elite of the academic establishment.  I hope FIRE jumps onto this and does like they did to Delaware University.

Of course, it doesn't surprise me, I seem to remember John Kerry suing to keep a film funded by the Swift Boat Vets from being released during his 2004 campaign.  There are rumors floating around that the Clintons are using their political machinery to stop the release of The Path to 9/11 to DVD.

Kanye West's Mother Dies, Likely From Complications From Cosmetic Surgery

This is terrible, the doctor had a shady record, she went to him after a previous doctor rejected performing a surgery on her due to a possible heart complication,

...Dr. Andre Aboolian of Beverly Hills, said West approached him about a procedure in June. Aboolian told West two weeks ago that she first needed medical clearance for a pre-existing condition that may cause a heart attack during surgery. He never heard back from her, said Aboolian's publicist, Jo-Ann Geffen.

Aboolian apparently made the right call, sadly, the other doctor didn't.  The doctor she went to has a shady record, and was facing review by a medical board because of his record. 

In a 2006 case, Adams was found guilty of driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08 or greater, and he pleaded no contest in 2003 to driving under the influence, according to the medical records.

They also indicate that in 2001, two malpractice lawsuits against Adams ended in payouts of $217,337 and $250,000. Further details were not disclosed.

She collapsed and stopped breathing after returning home after surgery. 

Adams told TMZ that West consulted with him over a period of four months, often changing her mind about the surgery. It was unclear when or where Adams performed the surgery.

I wonder what this means, it could've just been her mulling over the decision, or if he was convincing her to do it?  I wonder if he knew about Aboolian's diagnosis...

I'm guessing Kanye's gonna be sending a team of lawyers to take this guy for everything he's got soon.  Good riddance to this scuzzy doctor.
