"Joe Bob" decided to leave this gem on a recent thread about liberals.

Yeah! Great F'ing points.   You know why I really hate liberals.  Because they want to spend money on public schools.  I hate having my daughter having to get a free and decent education.  And I hate how those liberals always want to spend money building highways.  Screw that.  They even spent a lot of money in the stimulus bill building highways.  Damnit, if we were a free country, we'd be driving on gravel.  You know what would be even worse?  Them wanting to spend my hard-earned salary on building schools.  And you know what I hate even worse?  People who say bigoted things about another group of people, like muslims, and then get slammed for it.  I'm the racist for saying that?  No, you're the racist for noticing that I said something about muslims.  God damn liberals

This is Brad Anderson's new movie. He did The Machinist, Transsiberian and, one of my faves, Session 9. If you haven't seen Session 9, it's well worth it. David Caruso is in it and his smarminess really works for the role.

This looks fab too, particularly when you know it was made for only $15,000 with all the effects being done by the writer/director/cinematographer. Apparently there were only between 5-7 people involved in making the movie. It's also interesting that this is doing an online/ondemand release before the theatrical release. Really, if that's all it cost, I've got to think the director has already made a nice profit indeed.

Cancer Sucks

In keeping with the cancer motif we seem to have here, I'm posting this link to a sports journalist.

A year and a half ago my mother died because of cancer.
Ghe cancer didn't kill her, losing huge chunks of her lungs did. She was going in for surgery to remove the cancerous parts when she had a blood clot that stopped oxygen flow to half of the lung that was mostly cancer free.
They couldn't remove what was left as she could barely breathe as it was. She basically suffocated to death over a space of about a month or two.

Cancer sucks, it's interesting and kind of uplifting to see this guy say, "Fuck you".

D-Day Piper Bill Millin Dead at 88

You might remember the bagpipe scenes from The Longest Day...yeah, Millin was that guy.  Not Hollywood BS, Millin was a real guy, and he really did play the bagpipes during Normandy.  Even though playing the pipes had pretty much been barred from frontline action since WWI, Millin's commanding officer ordered him to play anyway in order to boost morale, and Millin complied.

You Want Hate? I'll Give You Hate

I am fucking sick and fucking tired of being told that wanting a better life for my family is somehow racist. I am fucking sick and fucking tired of being told that not wanting to be taunted for the most vile attack on our country in my lifetime is somehow "bigoted'. I am really fucking sick and fucking tired of being told that "hate" is what motivates me.

Instead of hiding, I'll admit to something. Yesterday was my daughter's first day of Kindergarten. And as I stood in line with her to enter school, I saw the tiny little thing that I used to be able to hold on my lap walk into the future. I saw the most precious and valuable gift ever given to me set forth on a journey that will lead to (hopefully) a lifetime of happiness and enjoyment. And I saw the future walk into a classroom with a backpack bigger than her, and I thought about her future. And I was and am worried.

Yes, I am worried. What kind of future will she have? And I became angry. I became angry at those who wish to ruin her future. And I began to let the hate grow. Yes, the hate for those who wish to make her life more difficult than what I had. Not hate for an ethnic or other group, but hate for an idea, since people can change their views. And the idea I hate is liberalism. I confess, I hate. I hate those who want to advance an agenda that ruins the today, the tomorrow, and the tomorrow's tomorrow. Convicted Terrorist bomber Abedelbaset Ali Mohmet al-Megrahi was supposed to be dead by now, wasn't he? That's why you compassionate UK geniuses let him out, right? And then, he got a hero's welcome. Now, you same geniuses hope the same isn't going to happen again?

The Foreign Office warned that any celebration of his freedom would be ''tasteless, offensive and deeply insensitive''.

A spokeswoman said: ''The Government is clear that Megrahi's release was a mistake. Both the current Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary made this clear at the time.

''Particularly on this anniversary we understand the continuing anguish that Megrahi's release has caused his victims, both in the UK and the US.

''Any celebration of Megrahi's release will be tasteless, offensive and deeply insensitive to the victims' families.

''We have made our concerns clear to the Libyan government.''

Yeah, you made your concerns clear a little late there. What do you want to bet that in spite of their "concerns," that the Libyan public still treats this like a national holiday?

So -- Confederate flag at the SC statehouse again?

Because the people flying the flag there say they too have good, non-objectionable motivations for doing so -- a reminder of heritage, honoring the dead, etc., etc. But previously we have shown skepticism towards their claimed motivations, and also decided their motivations were irrelevant -- it wouldn't even matter, we decided, if their motives were pure; the important thing was the Confederate flag was too hurtful to have near the people's house of government.

Again, so I now find out this isn't the rule anymore.

So if it's not the rule anymore: Why can't we have the Confederate flag at the SC statehouse?

Yes, I know, blacks (and others, including whites) consider it offensive and a nasty reminder of a national tragedy; but the spokesmen from Cordoba House have a response to such concerns, and that response is "Fuck yourself, get over it already."

So why doesn't that work in South Carolina, too?

I bring it up because making that leap to tie those together is simply genius.

Holy crap!

Again, holy crap!

So a bull in Spain got a bit, um, peeved during a bull fight and leapt into the stands. 40 people were hurt and one little boy is in critical condition. Yes, there's video - it's not that gory but it's very startling. I didn't know that this was even a possibility to guard against.

In defense of hate

Yes, I am defending hate.  There are times when hate is the proper response.  There are beliefs and actions which are so vile that hate is not only an appropriate, but indeed, necessary response.  Thus, I pose the following questions:

Can someone explain to me why I'm not allowed to hate people who actually oppress and abuse those who convert to a different faith? Why am I not supposed to hate those who want to kill me?  Seriously, why not?  How are many, if not most, of the tenets of Wahhabi Islam not hateful to decent human beings?  Why am I not supposed to hate those who stone women (and men on occasion) for adultery?  Why should I not hate those who hang gays?  Why should I not hate those who blow up men and women and children?  Why not?  If that is not worthy of hate, then can anyone tell me what is?

A new McDonald's ad featuring Gallic champion Asterix enjoying a burger and fries has sparked outrage among French comic purists who see it as an insult to their national heritage.

 The billboard shows the fearless Gaul and friends celebrating their traditional banquet at the fast-food chain -- with Cacofonix the bard tied to a tree outside as usual.

"My childhood hero sacrificed like a wild boar! What next? Tintin eating at Subway?" said one horrified blogger called sirchmallow.

"How ironic, the indomitable Gauls making an advert for the invaders," was another outraged comment on Twitter.

Um, "invaders"? I was unaware that McDonalds had been sold to the Germans.
