Hamas. Labor Unions. The Mob. What's The Diff?

Actually, not much. They are tight with Obama and the Democrats and support them. They use violence, bloodshed, and intimidation to achieve their goals. And they engage in shady business dealings regarding building projects.

So far, Hamas has taken control of millions of dollars transferred monthly by Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salaam Fayad to the UNDP and designated for Gazans whose homes were destroyed during Operation Cast Lead last winter.

At the meeting, Hamas officials told the UN representatives they wanted to be able to draw up the list of people who would receive the money, according to the Defense Ministry document. The sides decided to set up joint committees and to continue to meet in the future.

"This is an indication to us that there is no effective mechanism that can be established that will bypass Hamas and ensure the money goes straight to the Palestinian people," the senior defense official said.

Israeli government sources said it was "no secret" that UN officials in Gaza were having talks on a technical level with Hamas regarding the distribution of humanitarian aid there.

According to the officials, UNRWA and UNDP had "no choice" but to have some contact with Hamas officials in order for the assistance to be transferred. They added that Israel could live with that situation as long as the talks remained only at the technical level and did not become political in nature.

One official said efforts to develop a mechanism through which money for the rehabilitation of Gaza could be channeled into the region, without in any way strengthening or helping Hamas, is continuing. This effort has been going on since the end of Operation Cast Lead in January, and hundreds of millions of dollars of international aid that has been contributed for rebuilding the Gaza Strip is not being allowed in until such a mechanism is created.

Of course. Blame Teh Joooosss and not the hopelessly corrupt Hamas crowd.

Thanks to Alice.

Heh

I say again, Heh. (with apologies to the puppy blender for stealing his phrase)

I've seen this video by Chris Rock that American Digest has and it's spot on.

It's Chris Rock explaining how not to get your ass kicked by the police.

You probably won't get your ass kicked if you just use common sense
(well, that leaves out our over-educated "betters" like that Harvard tool V.)..snip...
If you jump a turnstile you might get off with a warning, if you jump a turnstile with a gun and smoking a joint, maybe you need your ass kicked (Heh V)
.

And the money quote
When an officer approaches your car, Be Polite.

Bing-fucking-O. It costs nothing to be polite to the police and it can cost a lot to not be polite.

As someone who has had more than his share of dealing with the police, I know what I'm saying.

I'm white, in HS most of my friends were white. We caroused around the greater Woodstock, NY region at all hours of the day and night. Woodstock is a very white region, so racism wasn't involved in what happened to me and my friends.

Woodstock is a small town with three and sometimes four police depts running around, Woodstock cops, Ulster County Cops, NY State Police and occasionally the police in a nearby town, like Olive, encroach.
Woodstock is not a high crime area. So there are 3-4 bored sets of cops around just looking for something to do.
I've dealt with them all, at 4pm, midnight, 2 am, at 4 am, at 6 am (not morning, the end of the night) and I've never been put into handcuffs by any of them. Even when I was doing something tres stupid. Like sitting on the side of route 28 at 6am, hitch-hiking and throwing rocks at the street light at the 375 intersection. Since we had been wasted all night, none of the rocks came near the light, they all landed in the intersection of a 55 MPH highway. In a big pile. The police showed up, I told my buddy to shut up and I handled it. They let us go with minimal hassling.

When I wasn't around, the same buddy was a dick. He was handcuffed often, with my cousin. My cousin is an idiot too. He was handcuffed for being stupid and he did the Capt. Kirk thing (jumping over his handcuffed hands to get them in front), the cop thought that was so funny he made my cousin do it the other way. Naturally, he fell flat on his unprotected face when he tried.

And he deserved it. If I had been there, I would have shut them both up and handled it myself, but I wasn't, so my cousin got a bloody nose and they were handcuffed for an hour or more before they were let go. (how funny is it that I'm the diplomatic one? V)

When I get pulled over, I take off my sunglasses and put my hands on the wheel. I usually get a warning.

So as Chris Rock says, don't be an asshole and you too can keep from getting your ass kicked by cops.

Too bad our highly-educated, intellectual-, moral-, and political-"betters" can't figure that out.

It's of a piece with the riots in Cincinnati a few years ago, for example. Some kids were doing what they shouldn't have been doing, a cop, who was used to patrolling the war zone that is the ghetto in Cincinnati, reacted strongly to the kid being a dick (the kid was being overly non-cooperative and did something that looked very aggressive, as I recall) and the kid came out on the short end of the stick.

Naturally, it was racism. It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they are often shot at so they have to be very careful or they can die at any time.

And just like Obama talking about how Latinos and blacks are bothered by the cops more. Ummmmm, they also commit a disproportional amount of crime. That's usually good cop-work, not racism you fucking tool.

I do have to admire Obama for the whole brouhaha though.

He claimed he wanted a national discourse on race. Well, he's getting it and it's mostly calling him a dumb fuck.

This is how it's done

In case you somehow missed it, Amazon screwed the pooch by deleting copies of 1984 (oh the yummy irony) off people's Kindles when it was discovered that those copies were illegal. Apparently, someone was selling unlicensed versions.  Amazon took it on the chin for just yoinking the copies. I'm actually a bit more sympathetic to Amazon and not just because you'll pry my Kindle out of my cold, dead hands. There's no question the copies were illegal. It's a bit of an open question as to what liability Amazon faced if it didn't attempt to stop the transmission of those works.  Don't get me wrong, what Amazon did was stupid.  I'm just not ready to jump on the OMG BIG BROTHER bandwagon.  It was still wicked stupid though.

Guess what? Jeff Bezos issued an apology today.  It's an actual apology too.

This is an apology for the way we previously handled illegally sold copies of 1984 and other novels on Kindle. Our "solution" to the problem was stupid, thoughtless, and painfully out of line with our principles. It is wholly self-inflicted, and we deserve the criticism we've received. We will use the scar tissue from this painful mistake to help make better decisions going forward, ones that match our mission.

With deep apology to our customers,

Jeff Bezos
Founder & CEO
Amazon.com

Now that is how it's done.  Wouldn't it be nice if other people did that as well?

For the record, I love my Kindle like pie.  Really, it's one of the best tech purchases I've ever made.  Everyone should have one.

Why people justifiably hate my profession

So. There's a rocket surgeon out there arguing that the woman who called the cops in the Gates thing could be liable.  No wonder y'all hate me so much.

There's a pretty epic takedown within the post itself.  But still sheesh.  I would hope that if my neighbor saw two guys trying to slam open a door she'd call the cops.  Really, this is going to get us right back to Kitty Genovese territory.

I've taught legal research before and I've thrown out completely nutty scenarios like this as teaching exercises.  From a purely sitting around coming up with crap point of view, this stuff can be fun.  But it sure seems to me like the post was meant seriously.  If so, FAIL PROFESSION FAIL.

Obamacare, Logan's Run, And Dr. Kevorkian

No, this is not the answer to a Carnac routine. It's what Seniors may face if The Won gets his way.

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: A RedState source sat behind a top aide to Rep. Paul Tonko (D-NY) and heard the aide admit that "the increase in Hospice care which will solve the prolonging of life issue." As you know, Democrats have been open about their desire to push seniors toward euthanasia as a cost savings option. In fact, the Democrats already have in the legislation a provisionrequiring senior citizens to receive instructions every five years on dying with dignity.

It's always great to hear liberals speak when they think no one is listening.

Rep. Paul Tonko is a freshman Democrat from Albany, NY. He's a typical non-descript eastern machine politician whose a robot for Obama and Pelosi and doesn't have too many original thoughts. Earlier this week one of his top aides was flying to Washington from the district. She was accompanied by what appeared to be a special interest Washington DC lobbyist, who probably came to Albany to attend some type of big money golf, gambling, and cigars fundraiser for Tonko.

Anyway, unbeknownst to them, a hero of the conservative movement sat quietly behind them. It was impossible to avoid listening to their boisterous conversation, and Tonko's aide didn't disappoint.

Naturally, most of the banter dealt with the health care bill, and here are a few of the gems:

The two were talking about whether Tonko would even be given time to read the bill. She told the lobbyist, "well he pays me to read it for him".

"[The] costliest part [of the Obama healthcare bill] will be the physician's rate cut," she said. Lots of political capital is going to be spent to get that through.

And, for the crowning glory, the aide feels that "probably the best part of the bill is the increase in Hospice care which will solve the prolonging of life issue." {well, at least that is one job Obama can save or create-ed.}

This seems to prove the argument that the Obama bureaucrats will eventually decide who lives and who dies.

A little midday funneh for ya

Seen this floating around various gunblogs and other sites, from an LA paper,

Authorities have noticed an increase in high-caliber weapons in Los Angeles. One of the most startling incidents was when a Fabrique National 57, an assault pistol used to kill big game, was found in a victim's car by detectives investigating a double-homicide last year in North Hollywood.

"You use it on large lions, tigers and bears," said LAPD Deputy Chief Michel Moore, commander of the Valley Bureau.

The Five-Seven shoots a small caliber .22 centerfire round that is somewhere between a .22 magnum, and a .22 Hornet on the power scale, both of which are commonly used to hunt small game like rabbits and squirrels, and to shoot small pest animals.  I love the Five-Seven and it's carbine counterpart, the PS-90, not because they're overpriced tacticool Euro popguns, but because they're something different, and bring out the best ignorant freakouts and crazy distortions from anti-2nd people.

The Collapse

Rasmussen is reporting that Obama's approval numbers have dropped below 50% for the first time.  The Democrats completely blew it, and my guess is unless the economy recovers miraculously, or some other politically fortuitous event, they're hosed in 2010 and probably 2012.  Don't get me wrong, they've done a lot of damage in six months, but the good news is that they're going to have to scale back what they're doing big time, which means less damage to the nation overall.

Doing important work for the American people

Yeah, yeah, there are hundreds (if not thousands) of resolutions of this type introduced on the floor of the House every year, but aren't there a few more pressing issues facing our country that you could be dealing with right now?

(On the other hand, perhaps we ought to be glad that Maxine Waters is busy with crap like this other than, you know, dealing with a few of the more pressing issues facing our country, so there is that.)

Blue Dog Democrats Raking In The Cash?

Not surprisingly, the 50 or so "centrist" House Democrats are raking in big time cash donations from lobbying groups.

In the 2008 election cycle, as fundraising for the National Republican Congressional Committee declined by roughly one-third from 2006 and fundraising for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee grew by just 26 percent, the Blue Dog PAC more than doubled its take (from $1,239,516 to $2,636,273).

And it raised more than $47,000 per Blue Dog from other political action committees — more than twice the $22,000-per-member total from the 2004 cycle.

Some of that cash came from interests that aren’t necessarily in sync with labor or even with traditional Democratic constituencies. In just the first half of 2009, all told the Blue Dog PAC took in $1,058,750 in contributions from other PACs, including health care PACs, which have already kicked in $297,500; energy PACs, $162,500; and financial services PACs, $134,500.

Former Rep. Charlie Stenholm (D-Texas) says the business community’s strategy is no mystery. It is making donations, in part, to gain influence with the Blue Dogs.

“I mean, what other conclusion could you come to?” he said with a laugh. “And that’s something that the Blue Dogs have sought. They want to be in that position, to have influence.”

I give it about 3 years before we start hearing about some of these Blue dogs taking shady money for their influence. just a thought.

El Dorado Sucks

So the serious posts are going nowhere and the post on "Illegal search and seizure" went off on a SyFy tangent I introduced so I'm going to post something that I feel strongly about.

Rio Bravo is far superior to El Dorado.

Sure, they're both about the Duke helping a drunkard sheriff with the help of a youngun' and an old coot, but other than that, there's no comparison.

Drunken Sheriff
ED:Robert Mitchum
RB: Deano
Big win RB

Youngun
ED James Caan
RB Ricky Nelson
Win RB, although it's close and I could be convinced it goes the other way.

Old Coot
ED:Arthur Hunnicut (who?)
RB:Walter Brennan
Big win: Stumpy (Bull is cool and all, but really. It's Walter Brennan)

Bad Guy
ED:Ed Asner
RB: John Russel (who?)
I give the win to RB, Asner just isn't believable as a head bad guy trying face up to the Duke.

And last but certainly not least
ED:Charlene Holt (who?)
RB: Angie Dickinson
Huge win Feathers

So that's one close win, one win, two big wins and Angie Dickinson when she was hot enough for Sinatra.

That's a big win for Rio Bravo.

(Next in the series: Fistful of Dollars blows Last Man Standing away)

Great news!

Well, great news if you happen to be a Limey sex offender, that is...

Paedophiles and rapists yesterday won the right to have their names removed from the Sex Offenders Register in a landmark human rights ruling.

Appeal Court judges ruled sex offenders who no longer pose a threat should be given the chance to have their names wiped off the police database.

The decision has outraged victims' groups who fear sexual predators will commit further crimes without any restrictions or supervision of their movements.

The case comes after two convicted sex attackers, including a child rapist, went to the High Court arguing that being on the register for life was a breach of their human rights.

Yeah, I like that "human" part. Clever, that.

Your Rights End At My Wallet

I hate to keep stealing from Mike at Cold Fury, but he's been on a blogging role lately.
In today's theft... errrrr..... linkage, we have the Gunslinger saying something that I knew but couldn't quite put it in words.
The Gunslinger says,
Anything that requires the labor of someone else cannot be a universal human right.
..snip...
It's just a greedy, selfish Want.
In a nutshell—nothing that demands the labor or sacrifice of another is your right.

Bing-fucking-O Gunslinger
more:
Our Constitutional, Natural Law rights require only that others leave us alone. They require no labor, action, payment, participation or sacrifice of anyone else on our behalf.

Well, mostly. They do require that busy body assholes leave me alone and that's asking a lot, but the point is valid.

So the next time some tool says that "health care is a right", I'll be able to explain exactly and concisely why it's not.
It won't change any leftist minds, but they won't have a response so they'll have to shut up about it.
And that's about all I hope for anymore.
