Now That Letterman Apologized, What Next?

After David Letterman apologized for his remarks directed at Gov. Sarah Palin's daughters, she did the classy thing and accepted the apology.

The Alaska governor, in a statement issued Tuesday, said the apology was accepted "on behalf of all young women, like my daughters, who hope men who `joke' about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls will soon evolve."

Fair enough. But I assert that a three other points need to be made, especially on how to handle liberals and the media (BIRM).

First off, when a Conservative and their supporters rally, refuse to give up and go away, and use the tactics of Alinsky, sometimes the liberal bullies will buckle. They are not used to us punching back, and they don't know what to do when it does happen.Yeah, the loss of advertising undoubtedly forced CBS and Letterman to revisit this situation, but they did, and they would have blown it off had pressure not been put on the people who call the shots.

Secondly, accept the fact that "comedians" such as Letterman and Jon Stewart are essentially a de-facto wing of the Obama Spin Machine, and treat them as campaign flacks. In fact, their reach and impact is more profound, since way too many people have their opinions shaped by these idiots than they do from "traditional" news anchors. Jim Treacher and Andrew Breitbart are correct that we should fight them and not allow them to retreat behind the "clown nose on, clown nose off" game that they have used for too long to beat on us. As such, we should refuse to just laugh off malicious assaults that sound as though they were written on Obama Campaign Literature and not cue cards for a stand up routine. Again, fighting back in an organized fashion will bear fruit.

Finally, the media cheerleaders for these assclowns should not be immune from criticism. They have enabled comedians to shape opinion by letting them become news in their own right (Remember Jon Stewart taking on CNBC, and how it became top of the hour news on many "serious" shows?) . They should be pressured into accepting responsibility for their words and deeds, especially since they cannot hide behind a "comedian" defense. Hell, if MediaMatters and KOS can force a media hack into an apology, why can't we?  Admittedly, this is a tougher nut to crack, since the MSM will be asked to report on and self police itself, but the same organized tactics that were used against Letterman can and should be used whenever Jeffrey Toobin steps over the line. Who knows? Maybe it will work there as well.

Anyway, job well done to all who fought back. Remember this feeling, and how victory tastes, and be greedy for more.

Zombie Castro Is Not Amused

Nice to see his son is a doofus, gullible, and on the internet.

Luis Dominguez said he used the character to begin an online relationship with Antonio. Capitalizing on the younger Castro's purported interest in young women and sports, Dominguez says he snared Antonio Castro by posing as a 27-year-old female Colombian sports journalist named Claudia.

Dominguez refused to apologize for the deception, saying he wanted to show the "opulent lifestyles" of the Castros.

"I'm a Cuban and I'm a Cuban American and I have not been able to go back to my country since 1971 when I left.

"I use whatever tools I have to be able to get back at these people. In Cuba people are put in prison for no reason at all. Their rights are violated ... So, why can't I do the same thing to them? I have no remorse whatsoever," he told the BBC.

Simple things you can do to help Iranians

Here is a helpful guide for those wishing to do something for the Iranian people.  For example:

4. Help cover the bloggers: change your twitter settings so that your location is TEHRAN and your time zone is GMT +3.30. Security forces are hunting for bloggers using location and timezone searches. If we all become 'Iranians' it becomes much harder to find them.

I've done that, and I'd hope that you would, too.  Also Twitter-related, redact usernames when you retweet information from someone in Iran.

More fun with Obamacare

Tmi3rd looks at Obamacare, and the utter disaster it would be.  One thing I'd note is this,

Safeway's program was profiled in the WSJ recently. I can only assume that Obama intends to give tax incentives for being healthier, which translates into "We're going to tax you for being unhealthy." The fact that the left-libertarians are not howling like gibbons about this mystifies me, but that's a discussion for another time.

I actually watched the CEO of Safeway being interviewed by Mike Huckabee about this (was at hotel, been drinking, no computer), and the word I kept hearing during that interview was control.  I don't like to hear CEOs talking control, government talking about control like that scares the hell out of me. I should note too, the Hucktard's band did an original song for that taping, the song being about, of course, the greatness of Mike Huckabee.  Modesty

The good news is that I think that as long as the GOP leadership can show the level of competence I think they're capable of (and I'm setting the bar seriously fucking low here), with conservative media and thinktanks on the attack, I think we can bog down and ultimately stop Obamacare, but it is going to be at least an Amnesty-level slog, probably worse, so get ready.

DeMint Endorses Rubio

Sweet.

This cycle, DeMint plans to take a different tack with his Senate Conservatives Fund; instead of simply making donations to his preferred candidate, he plans to ask his 20,000 supporters to help raise the maximum allowable limit for the endorsed candidates — a process known as “bundling.” A person familiar with the PAC said that DeMint is expected to endorse between three and five candidates this cycle.
I wouldn't have supported this action, except that the NRSC (who I have helped in the past) endorsed Crist and other senators did as well.  I don't think these GOP/Senate PACs should endorse in party primaries, for what it is worth. It stirs up strife among the party, with finger-pointing and accusations of unfairness. Let the candidates run on their merit in the primaries and then go full force in the general election helping them.

I am opposed to any Republicans discouraging other Republicans from opposing an incumbent or the "fair haired candidate" in a primary election.  I hate to break it to these folks, but these Republicans in power do not OWN these senate seats. The people do.  And the people are tired of the manipulation of the process with their attempts to stifle a particular ideology in their own party in the name of power and the good ole boys club. We can successfully be a "big tent" if they would stop trying to control the mechanics of the process and let the people decide who BEST represents their viewpoints on the majority of issues.

Or perhaps that is what they fear the most.

I'm sorry to have to say this...

...but we have a total fucking pussy in the White House:

I'm sorry if I've offended anyone by saying that, but it's true. The man who is ostensibly the leader of the Free World just couched his statement in a bunch of lawyer-esque babble instead of supporting people who are rising up in the streets to demand their right to self-determination. Truman and JFK are surely spinning in their graves as we speak, but today's Democrat party probably couldn't give a damn.

Total. Fucking. Pussy.

Sue me for saying so.

He's not a fan

I know this isn't a sports-related blog, I don't really care about the NBA, and I'm not usually the type of guy who sticks up for overpaid pro athletes, but bear with me here...

In the wake of last night's NBA Championship win, T.J. Simers of the Los Angeles (!) Times wrote a bilious screed against the Lakers that has me wondering whether or not some of the players ganged up and gave him a swirlie in the locker room at some point. Case in point:

How many times were we told that Kobe wanted this more than anyone else, his teeth gritted as if there was nothing more important in the whole world than a basketball game?
Um, the man is a professional basketball player. What do you think his main focus is supposed to be? Yeah, there are more important things in the world, but I think I can forgive the man for wanting to win.

Update: Speaking of things more important than winning a basketball game, be sure to check out the post below this one. I hate to push it down.

Please oh please let this *not* be true

The Guardian is reporting 12 dead students in Iran.  Five of the students have been named but were reportedly buried without the knowledge of their families.

In slightly more positive news, Twitter's hosting provider has agreed to postpone maintenance activities until the middle of the night in Iran. Iranian protesters are using Twitter as a means of communicating how to obtain medical care, as police have started arresting protesters who show up at hospitals.

In less positive news, Spiegel.de is reporting that 5,000 Lebanese troops have been dispatched to Iran, presumably to help with crowd control.  @IranElection09's take on the troop presence is that Iranians refuse to kill Iranians.

And in some worrisome news, twitterer @Change_for_Iran has not been heard from for fifteen hours.

If Mother Gaia really wanted us to drive Priuses, this would never have happened.

Yes, that's right, two Priuses with one downed tree. Anyone who thinks Gaia can't take care of herself is fooling themselves.

Only in America

Only in America could a success story like Michael Bennet's happen.  From privileged beginnings as the son of the CEO of National Public Radio, Michael Bennet was magically sucked into the Colorado political machine and was appointed to the post of Superintendent of Denver Public Schools, where Bennet pledged to serve for at least five years and turn the school district around.  He did such an amazing job of improving the school district around that he was promoted to US Senator - and accepted the position - a year and a half before his promised five years has passed.

Here's a snapshot (PDF warning) of the tremendous job Senator Michael Bennet did for Denver Public Schools, as DPS is being called on to the carpet to answer for how...fantastic! its performance as a district is.  A few choice tidbits:

  • "only about one-half of the city’s 9th graders finish high school in four years"
  • "Success with such dramatic reform requires education leaders who can articulate and implement a vision, sustain the effort to achieve it, and build wide-spread support to protect their hardwon progress." (emphasis mine)
  • "Most schools miss federal, state and local targets"
  • "Current student results are unacceptable by all measures."
WhoRunsGov view Bennet as Obama's point man in the Senate for education reform.  With such evident success in Denver Public Schools, is it any wonder?

A few people in Iran are a little upset over the election

UPDATE: Um, wow.  Not that I would EVER suggest helping to DDOS the Iranian government's propaganda websites, because of course that would be immoral, right?

From IranElection09's twitterfeed, where you can find the latest updates on the Iranian election protests. Rodrigomx of BNONews is assembling a collection of photos from various sources. Excitable Andi has a post up saying that professors at the University of Tehran have resigned en masse to protest the militia raid of the boys' dorm. (Link is safe per douchebag policy, it's pictures of the dorm raid.)

Imagine how different this might all be if Saddam Hussein were in a position to send over troops to help support Ahmadinejad.

Even if Ahmadinejad succeeds in pulling off this farce of an election, he's been put on notice, and the rest of the world is now on notice to help insure that Iran has a truly fair election next time around. It's a shame we don't have a president in office right now who sees Ahmadinejad for the dictator that he is, and who is interested in truly helping democracy achieve a foothold in Iran, or we might be seeing a different election outcome.

Update: Rottengods has heard a rumor that eight people have been killed in the latest protests, but does not have confirmation.

GOP leadership finally gets around to offering tepid defense of missile defense program

Should I just shut up and be grateful they even said anything?  I mean, hell, it only took a few North Korean missile launches and nuclear warhead tests to make them voice some concern.

Well, now I can say the Brits have done something right in recent memory

But the UK's fixation on failing at everything else, compounded by my extreme laziness prevents me from making a WIN tag for them.  But if we had one, this would go in it.  As sophistimicated as the Brits are, they seem to love trashy American television, but they do redeem themselves with one show, as Rachel Lucas reports.  Airwolf has apparently made its way across the pondFortunately for us, we have access to Airwolfy awesomeness anytime, anywhere.  *USA! USA! USA!*

Of course, who can forget Alex Cord's open letter to the Moron-in-Chief?

I Know I Shouldn't Be Surprised At This...

But it appears as though a key question of Obama at his rally in Wisconsin last week came from a plant.

One of Obama's first questions from the audience wasn't from a mere concerned citizen, but from a former Democratic Party candidate for Congress that wants a socialist, single payer system to be implemented raising the suspicion that the administration knew exactly who was going to ask questions and what they were going to ask.

This questioner can be seen in a CNN video covering the Green Bay event. The woman is identified as "Paulette Guerin" and labeled as an "attendee" of the meeting on the CNN segment. In fact CNN got the spelling of the woman's last name wrong, it's not Guerin, but Garin. Additionally this "attendee" is far from just the average Wisconsin citizen just out for the day to hear the president's ideas. Paulette Garin is far more than just another one of the folks.

In fact, here is her website.

Given the fact that any politician worth their salt will vet a speaker and/or an attendee, just to make sure no undercover troublemaker makes it through, you can bet your ass Obama knew about this. And I love the intense vetting the media gave this woman after asking this question, especially since they declared it their duty to vet a plumber who had the audacity to be standing on his lawn when Obama went up to him back in the fall.

An Idea So Stupid, Only The Nanny State Could Push It

Anti-stab knives?

The first “anti-stab” knife is to go on sale in Britain, designed to work as normal in the kitchen but to be ineffective as a weapon.

The knife has a rounded edge instead of a point and will snag on clothing and skin to make it more difficult to stab someone.

It was invented by industrial designer John Cornock, who was inspired by a documentary in which doctors advocated banning traditional knives.

Mr Cornock, 42, from Swindon, said that the knife will cut vegetables, but will make it almost impossible to stab someone to death and will reduce the risk of accidental injuries.

A Tribute To Not Backing Down

As we all know by now, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will not exit the political stage just yet, and that has her detractors up in arms and flinging yet more shit her way. But why?

I dunno for certain, but I have one idea, and the recent Letterman dustup and the back and forth afterward convinced me of one idea why. It's because she won't back down when attacked.

Letterman, Olbermann, Matthews, Couric, Lauer, Powerline, Noonan, Parker, Brooks, Frum, and the Beltway GOP once again unleashed their nastiness and savagery upon her, and what did she do? She fired back, and she fired back without mercy upon her enemies. She reduced Matt Lauer to a stumbling mass of jumbling live on National TV. She has caused the pundit class and MSNBC to twist themselves into a pretzel over her response. And David Letterman and his enablers have made themselves look foolish in the process of trying to spin this away.

All because she won't back down. All because she refuses to abandon the battlefield and "Play Nice". They have no idea how to deal with that. She is once again in their OODA Loop. And it is fucking awesome.

Too bad too many shitbags ostensibly on our side are not rallying to her defense. That's too bad, because she will take them all on by herself, and they will have missed the lesson about what happens when you finally counterpunch.

All in all, fuck anybody sideways who doesn't defend Gov. Palin now. She has rejoined the battle, and is standing there, damn near by herself, and she has them running from her, reduced to name-calling and refusals to debate her. And anybody who is unwilling to stand with her should be ashamed.
