Some attendees at the 87th annual Colorado Municipal League Conference were in seminars such as "Natural Disasters: Preparation and Response," put on by the Evans city manager, and "Do as I Say and as I Do: Making Municipal Facilities Energy Efficient,"put on by an architect and a Lafayette council member."No one can say this is a junket," said Sam Mamet, executive director of the Colorado Municipal League. "This is a quality conference, and people recognize it as such."
But a reporter, producer and photographer from 9News who visited the conference Thursday found plenty of municipal officials who had decided to forgo the panel on "Maintaining Your Infrastructure in a Tight Economy" and instead hang out in the halls and lobby.
Unaware she was speaking to a reporter and being taped, Glendale City Council member LuVerne Davenport said the city brought six people to the conference so they could rotate through the panels and no one would have to go to all of them.
So what do they do when they are not in the seminars?
"We goof off," Davenport said.

Not missing Milwaukee.
Apparently, I am missing some amazing developments around the world.
Is North Korea seriously going to shoot a missile at Hawaii? Is Obama seriously such a bitch that he doesn't openly mention the end of North Korea if that is the case?
Also, GO Iranian protesters. Too bad nothing will come of it.

Tang's ads for years have bragged that his restaurant is where George Bush goes for Chinese food. His website is down, but there are still many many articles proclaiming GOP love for Heaven Dragon's Chinese cuisine.
Funny thing is, despite living relatively close to Heaven Dragon, I've never eaten there. I even lived two blocks from it for a while. Strip mall Chinese just doesn't do that much for me. I'd heard rumors to the effect that they served dog there, and that the owner was a drug dealer, but I'd dismissed them as neighborhood craziness.

In Sweden, the 15,000-strong Somali community calls autism "the Swedish disease," says Elisabeth Fernell, a researcher at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and a co-author of the study.
In Minnesota, where there are an estimated 60,000 Somali immigrants, the situation was quite similar: There, health officials noted reports of autism among Somali refugees, who began arriving in 1993, comparable to those found in Sweden. Within several years of arrival, dozens of the Somali families whose children were born in the U.S. found themselves grappling with autism, says Huda Farah, a Somali-born molecular biologist who works on refugee resettlement issues with Minnesota health officials. The number of Somali children in the city's autism programs jumped from zero in 1999 to 43 in 2007, says Ann Fox, director of special education programs for Minneapolis schools. The number of Somali-speaking children in the Minneapolis school district increased from 1,773 to 2,029 during the same period.
Oh, and I wonder if Oprah still wants to greenlight a show for this imbecile.

Let me be clear. I don't believe that people have a "right" to health care; because, what advocating such a "right" basically means is that you believe you have a "right" to my mind; you have a "right" to my professional competence; i.e., you have a "right" to enslave me.
Which is the perfect way to describe socialist medicine, and socialism in general.

Needless to say, it's a group unhappy with him.
Obviously, had a Conservative outlet done this, you can guess the cries of bigotry that would erupt.

"Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?' It's just a thing. I worked so hard to get that title. I'd appreciate it."
--Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) to Brigadier General Michael Walsh during Senate hearing Tuesday, when he the general repeatedly said, "Yes, ma'am," and "No, ma'am," when answering Boxer's questions at hearing she chaired on New Orleans' levee system.
Can't hear me? Maybe some sign language might help.
*as an aside, and wildly OT, that photo is the best thing a Rockefeller Republican ever did. And it can be used to represent the RINO view of the Conservatives. But I digress.

Democrats on three House panels continue to meet privately to seek consensus on a single plan. Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee said they were trying to decide whether to finance coverage of the uninsured with one broad-based tax, like the value-added tax, or a combination of smaller taxes.
