The Detroit Lions finish their season 0-16.  They're the first team to lose out a 16 game season.  The last time a team went a full season without winning was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, during their first season in 1976, with an 0-14 record.

The Messiah is coming, and he doesn't seem to like the GOP

Some group called "Share International" has been running commercials on the History Channel all day, talking about how a great new spiritual leader is coming to lead the world, so I decided to check them out online, and I found this on their website (with my emphasis):

Q. Did vote tampering take place in the recent US presidential elections?

A. Yes, but to a lesser degree than the last two elections.

Q. If so, what would the real results have been – without vote rigging and other tricks?

A. About 5 per cent higher for Barack Obama [heh, that's a good one - ed.].

Q. Does the election of Barack Obama mean that the soul aspect of America can more easily manifest itself?

A. Not necessarily. He has not done anything yet! A better indication will come when the US public hear and assess Maitreya. The African-American community will feel empowered and vindicated by Barack Obama's election victory but almost half of the popular vote, 48 per cent, went to the Republicans. The breakdown of America's economic and financial hegemony will be very influential in the months ahead.

Q. Do you think Barack Obama will be more responsive to Maitreya's ideas than his Republican counterpart?

A. Yes, and he has come to presidential power at a significant moment for the world.

Q. Will Barack Obama be the last president of the United States? I believe it was either Maitreya's associate or your Master who said that eventually the US presidency will be replaced by a group of wise elder statesmen and that former president Jimmy Carter (in office, 1976-1980) will be invited to join them if he lives long enough.

A. That is still the Plan so there is every chance that Mr Obama will be the last President.

Oh, that's just great. We ditch the system of government that's served us for two hundred years in favor of...a doddering Jimmah and some of his buddies?  I don't think so.

This seems to be a quasi-religious organization, but it definitely looks like it tilts to the left.  Does anybody know how one could go about checking out whether or not they enjoy tax-exempt status?

It turns out the Democrats will win more seats in the midterm elections (emphasis mine):

Sen. Reid, perhaps the most-vulnerable Democrat who will face re-election in a midterm race that is likely to favor his party once again, began interviewing campaign managers last week. The Senate majority leader also recently stepped up fund-raising.

The death of ManBearPig?

There's a great column in today's Telegraph which suggests that this year may actually be the "turning point in the great worldwide panic over man-made global warming."  One can hope...

Ever shriller and more frantic has become the insistence of the warmists, cheered on by their army of media groupies such as the BBC, that the last 10 years have been the "hottest in history" and that the North Pole would soon be ice-free – as the poles remain defiantly icebound and those polar bears fail to drown. All those hysterical predictions that we are seeing more droughts and hurricanes than ever before have infuriatingly failed to materialise.

Even the more cautious scientific acolytes of the official orthodoxy now admit that, thanks to "natural factors" such as ocean currents, temperatures have failed to rise as predicted (although they plaintively assure us that this cooling effect is merely "masking the underlying warming trend", and that the temperature rise will resume worse than ever by the middle of the next decade).

And that's the problem. This has become a cult, and its most devoted followers haven't just drunk the Kool-Aid, they're swimming in it.  Besides, there's still money to be made from the crisis.

More fake soldiering

Protip to all fake military:  Wear the correct gear, because someone who is active (or retired but pays attention to current events), or a parent or someone who knows enough to call your BS.

In any case, this one is particularly reprehensible, he's a 44 year old career criminal who decided to dress up as a soldier and begin collecting for a veteran charity (and pocketed the money).  Unfortunately for our criminal, a 23 year old Iraq War vet with a well tuned bullshit detector realized the guy was bogus. Sure enough, the veteran organization the thieving fucker claimed to represent has no representatives in the Boston area.  Sounds like the guy was wearing an old woodland pattern BDU, and that's what made the real vet take notice.

Crushed Chip

Chip Saltsman is a fool, no doubt, anyone who would work for the Huckabee campaign is almost guaranteed to be one.  Saltsman and Katon Dawson both seem to be incapable of taking a slightly different path when a huge steaming pile sits in front of them.  If you remember, Katon Dawson is another one of the idgit brigade running for the RNC Chair, why yes, Dawson was the guy who was part of a country club that doesn't allow minorities to join! 

If you haven't heard some liberal twat reporter glowingly reporting this one, there's a big big clusterfuck developing around Chip Saltsman and his decision to include a copy of Paul Shanklin's "Barack, the Magic Negro" on a mixtape (CD, whatever) he was handing out for the holidays.  Saltsman of course should know better than to give the left such an easy, stupid thing to demagogue him on, so really, if the GOP wants to their current track record of unthinking, unsavvy numbskulls at the top, Saltsman and Dawson are the way to go. 

On the flipside, we see the equally cluelless sanctimony from the Greater Than Thou wing of the GOP as well,

First played on Rush Limbaugh’s popular, though often taboo, radio show, the 41-track CD, entitled “We Hate the USA,” featured the racially-charged song “Barack the Magic Negro.” After all, nothing says “Christmas” like racial insensitivity…

Defending the ill-conceived Christmas goodie bag as a good humored joke, Saltsman told The Hill: “Paul Shanklin is a long-time friend, and I think that RNC members have the good humor and good sense to recognize that his songs for the Rush Limbaugh show are light-hearted political parodies.” 

HA HA, get it, “negro” is a funny word.

HA HA, gotta love it when "our side" attacks us as dishonestly as the left does.  For those unfamiliar, Shanklin's song is based on this article in the LA Times by film reviewer/columnist and David Ehrenstein, Ehrenstein isn't some right wing nut either, he's had a long career writing for various liberal magazines and papers.  Ehrenstein's article is a commentary on liberals who were projecting the image of the Magic Negro character onto Barack Obama. 

Shanklin simply took the article and made it into a tune.  So to just pretend it's just some hillbilly going, "Durrr-hurrr, magic negro, hurrrr!" with a finger in his nose is dishonest, but hey, nothing better than a pat on the head from your liberal betters, eh?  Keep up the good work and you'll soon be writing for the Gay Gossip Site and Anti-Semitic Conspiracy Newsletter, The Atlantic.

Eminent domain is awesome!

When the government provides for everything, it can take away everything. Like the Venezuelan 273-store mall you're within a couple of months of opening.

President Hugo Chavez says he was heading through downtown Caracas when he was shocked by the sight of a huge, nearly finished shopping mall amid the high-rise offices and apartments.

So the often-impulsive president told an allied mayor to halt construction and said this prime block of urban real estate should be expropriated. He said the sprawling six-story building might be put to better use as a hospital or university.

The whole article is worth a read, with wonderful contradictions between Chavez's vision of socialism in action vs local authorities insisting that private property rights should be respected.  My guess is that the contradicting local authorities won't have government jobs soon.  It seems that the harshest local criticism that's safe is that Chavez is too busy to oversee every project and should leave this sort of thing to municipal decision-makers.

Virgin Mary gave birth to Jesus on Christmas

I know, it's not news. Oh, wait:

Twenty-year-old Virgen Maria Huarcaya delivered her newborn son, Jesus Emanuel, in the early hours of Christmas in Peru's capital of Lima, Reuters reported.

The baby's father, Adolfo Jorge Huamani, is a carpenter, causing religious Peruvians to compare the 24-year-old to Mary's Biblical husband Joseph, who was a carpenter as well.

"A few days ago we had decided to name my son after a professional soccer player," the father said. "But thanks to a happy coincidence this is how things ended up."

This kid's got a heck of a reputation to live up to.  "Your namesake wouldn't have broken your brother's toys!"  I suppose you run into the not-quite-the-same problem naming your kid after a living pro sports player, though.  I'm sure at least some of the parents who named their kid after Kobe Bryant or OJ Simpson are feeling pretty stupid now.

Intestinal Viruses Are Awesome!

Well, maybe not. I finally am able to write again from home (your loss), so I figured my first post back should be a pleasant one.

I have spent damn near a full day now *ahem* expelling stuff *ahem* from my body. But, it could be worse. I will recover in a day or so, just in time for work (yay!), and I have an opportunity and excuse to rest. I do hope everybody had a great Christmas/Hanukkah/Whatever, and that 2009 is a good year for you.

Oh, and yesterday was a great day. I was able to finally see my brother for the first time since he came back. He looks good, and is really happy to try to regain the damn near 50lbs he lost over in the Desert. He also showed me his first stateside purchase, a Ruger SP something or other 357 Magnum Snub Nose. He is now prepared for the zombies as well, though he is starting to sound the clarion call for the Robot Uprising.

Anyway, it's great to be back. I appreciate all y'alls, and the patience you exercise with my foolishness, and am ready to spread Teh Stoopid once again.

Yesterday, I mentioned that some douchebag radio host down in San Diego had stolen one of Iowahawk's posts.  Well, maybe we should contact the people who are in charge of the station's advertising and let them know that having a plagiarist like Rick Roberts on the air isn't such a good idea.  Their sponsors might be interested in that kind of information.
