Much of Palin's appeal and much of why she apparently grates on others is her accent, colloquialisms, grammar, seeming simplicity, and mannerisms—which are a lot like the wily, sing-songy voiced hero of Fargo, Marge Gunderson. In her methodical, seemingly plodding way, the pregnant Marge systematically figures out the complex criminal labyrinth, and then in courageous fashion wades into the thicket unaware perhaps of the danger from the supposedly more clever involved, but confident that what has worked for her in the past and gotten her this far will see her through just fine as usual. It's a good comparison, but if I remember right the now-classic Fargo lost the Best Picture Oscar to the once lyrical but now forgettable The English Patient.
On a slightly related note: A lot of people say "imminent" domain, Allah. It's called an accent, and it's nothing to get all Eeyore about.

Keep on insisting that this financial crisis was the fault of the Bush administration, Dems. Go ahead. Because, really, you'll get away with it. The liberal MSM spirit squad isn't gonna touch this with a ten thousand foot pole.
This was a nice democracy we had. Was, being the operative word.

Yes, all the idiots (including me) that were starting to believe in the Cubs this year are the Morons of the Day.
The magic of Cubs fan pain is that they build you up before they break you down. You'd think we'd have learned by now.
Anyway, it is time to institute Moron Pundit's Centennial Sucking Ruleâ„¢ which states:
Any professional sports franchise that competes in 100 seasons of their sport without winning the title are to be removed from the league and abolished as a sporting entity.
At least then, the pain could stop.

About exactly as you'd expect:
Seven Russian soldiers have been killed and eight others have been injured when a car bomb exploded in the Georgian breakaway region of South Ossetia.
The explosion is refuelling tensions between Russia and Georgia, which less than two months ago went to war over the rebel republic.
The blast occurred near the Russian military headquarters in the South Ossetian capital, Tskhinvali.
The Russian Defence Ministry says the explosives were in a car that had been impounded for inspection.
The force of the blast blew out windows up to 400 metres away.
The Interfax news agency says the Defence Ministry has called the explosion a carefully planned terrorist attack aimed at thwarting the peace plan implemented after Russia's conflict with Georgia in August.
South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity has been quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying it was a terrorist act and he has no doubt it was carried out by Georgian Special Services.
Retarded islamodouches take note: It is legitimate to attack enemy soldiers but evil and less productive to murder civilians you are attempting to manipulate with your terror.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin accused Ukrainian officials Friday of sending both weapons and military personnel to Georgia. While Putin did not directly accuse Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko of authorizing the supplies, he said he suspected Ukraine aided Georgia during the recent military engagement between the two countries, Sky News said.
Putin made the comments while meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and commented afterward that such supply efforts are a "crime."
"When people and military systems are used to kill Russian soldiers, it's a crime," Putin said.
Umm... cry me a river you KGB cockswallow. Sadly, the Ukranian Prime Minister is bowing under the pressure:
Tymoshenko assured Putin that his allegations would be investigated by a parliamentary panel and called for peace in the region, Sky News reported.
"We have seen a very difficult development in Georgia," she told her Russian counterpart. "We would like to see a peaceful settlement of the conflict."
Yeah, the Soviet Union wants to see a peaceful solution to their little satellite problem, too. The peace of the grave.
I suspect there will effectively be no nation of Urkaine within the next 5 years. The Soviets stabbed and the West blinked. Don't think they didn't notice.
* - I'm done using the enemy's euphamism. I'm calling a commie pinko fuck** a commie pinko fuck from now on.
** - Yes, I'm aware that he's more a thugocrat than a man with an ideology but I feel like using words based on his former life and lets be honest, the commie pinko fucks that ran the Soviet Union weren't exactly ideological purists. He just doesn't pretend as much.

But there's no question: She won the debate on popularity. She did her homework, studied hard, and delivered with spunk. Still, I had the uneasy feeling throughout that I was witnessing a data dump from a very appealing droid. Even the winks and jaw juts seemed slightly programmed.Hell, even David Brooks thought that Gov. Palin did an outstanding job last night. She's out-Brooksing Brooks!
But if that's what it takes to continue getting bookings on Hardball, I guess it's all worth it!

Snarky aside, are there really 173 NRO contributors? Or did some Concerned Conservative Christians skew this poll?

Especially when a truck carrying various parts crash into ditches in North Dakota.
"There were no injuries and the accident posed no danger to the public," the Air Force said in a statement.
The rocket booster and truck remained at the side of the road until Aug. 10, while investigators assessed the crash site.
Air Force spokeswoman Maj. Laurie A. Arellano said the recovery cost of $5.6 million included damage to the truck and its cargo.
"Inadequate gravel road training programs and the inability of 91st Missile Wing engineering personnel to accurately determine the safe load-bearing width of gravel roads along designated routes also contributed to the accident," the Air Force statement said.
The Air Force said the booster rocket is 66 feet long and weighs 75,000 pounds while the vehicle, trailer and rocket booster weighed more than 70 tons.
"While preparing to make a left turn, the driver and safety observer maneuvered the loaded tractor-trailer beyond the right edge of the reinforced gravel roadway and shoulder," the Air Force statement said.
"Basically, the procedure for large trucks is that they're supposed to drive in the middle of the gravel road," Arellano said.
Dr. Evil is unimpressed.

Update: In another "diary" filed by Markos himself, Joe Lieberman is quoted thusly as some sort of "nutroots gotcha":
She hit it out of the ballpark. She proved that she is ready to be John McCain's Vice President. She was strong, she was competent, she was informed, she was very genuine. She was humorous. In related news, Ned "The Freshmaker" Lamont was unavailable for comment.

Anyway, as some of you know, I'm trying to get a job in DC, and I've found that living in Lexington, KY, has been...well...exactly the obstacle you'd expect it to be.
So, a friend has given me permission to use his DC-area address on my resume if I choose. If I were to get a job, I'd be moving into his spare room temporarily while I found my own place.
I'm thinking about doing it, as I have a feeling that most places I've applied see my address and toss the resume (even though I explain in the accompanying email that I can fly in at my own expense for interviews and relocate at my own expense). But I don't know if that would be seen as dishonest somehow.
Surely, our powers combined can figure out if this is a good idea!

Republicans can now remove their hands from their eyes. Gov. Sarah Palin shared a stage with Sen. Joe Biden and for 90 minutes skirted the edge of the abyss but avoided the plunge. Luckily for her, their debate Thursday night avoided serious civics -- no questions about Supreme Court rulings and only the briefest exposition on what constitutes the vice presidency. She did nothing to arrest her slide from phenomenon to embarrassment, but her conservative supporters, many jumping ship in recent days, can take solace that she correctly pronounced the names of several world leaders. What debate were they watching? Oh, right. The "We're a bunch of smug, liberal MSM douches and no matter what happens, Sarah Palin is an idiot" debate.
To be fair, they don't seem to be big Biden fans, either, noting that his "looping answers drifted along a current known only to him," and saying that, consequently, "His best friend was the clock." Even so, they just can't help themselves:
In the end, Biden left voters with a more constructive vision of the government and a more compelling case for how it has failed the nation under President Bush. But of course. Because it's Sarah Palin's job to tell the people about how the government has "failed the nation under President Bush." Yeah, I guess she really fucked up there.

October 3, 2008 Whenever I finished this stupid post
Parker Problem
She's out of her league.
If at one time conservatives were considered heretical for swimming upstream against Marxist orthodoxy, they now face condemnation from a few sniveling pundits for swimming downstream — away from Kathleen Parker.
To express reservations about her qualifications to be a syndicated columnist — and possibly a cable news channel pundit — is to risk bruising her fragile ego.
Some of the passionately conservative critics of Parker who attacked her personally deserved some of the backlash they received. But circumstances have changed since Parker was introduced as just a social issue commenter — what a difference an election with a normal conservative makes — and a more complicated picture has emerged.
As we’ve seen and heard more from the NRO columnist, it is increasingly clear that Parker is a problem. Quick study or not, she doesn’t know enough about the conservative movement to be a pundit beyond MSNBC.
Parker needs to admit she is Way Out of Her League. Look, she's generally solid on social issues, but she let the Beltway warp her thinking. Parker was angry that she'd have to face the chiding of the Beltway set because she spoke in support of Gov. Palin, then Palin did poorly in a few interviews. How dare she embarrass Parker like that!
Parker then dug in deeper when she faced resistance from the popular conservative movement. Now Parker has to suffer the embarrassment of having spent her last two weeks being a useful idiot for the Democrats and media, while Governor Palin has gone on to field-dress Joe Biden in a critical debate, and is back in the game.
What to do?
Only Parker can save her disintegrating credibility. She can grovel endlessly to the conservative movement and to Gov Palin. No one would criticize a conservative who could admit they let the Beltway and their own ego warp their thinking.
Do it for the Gipper.

Brunner said she was "pleased" the court clarified what she called a set of "complex applications ruled" passed by the state legislature. "I will gladly follow the high court's decision," she said.I'm guessing there were some clenched teeth involved in that quote.
