The show is in development right now, and will be set in the Netherlands (presumably Amsterdam), where they plan on setting loose several people who take drugs and drink recreationally in a totally drug legal environment for a month and see what happens.
Now, I'm little libertine on some drugs (like marijuana, though I've never touched the stuff), but this is just abusive, its clear that the intent here is to get contestants in over their heads, either to OD or get really sick, or watching them become dependent, under the veil of "documentary."
There are lifelong consequences to doing stuff like this, and its reckless on the part of Channel 4. We all know how reality type shows work, and that presence of crews and cameras encourage participants (who are already predisposed to camera whoring) to engage in riskier behavior then they normally would.
Most people know where to cut it off with things like tobacco, alcohol or marijuana and can stop or reduce intake when they need to, but there is that core who can't, or those who are borderline, but could be pushed into that addiction zone with a push in the right direction. There will probably be some of those borderline people on this show, and they could very well be sent into a path of lifelong addiction or a hard fought war with it.
I'm all in favor of expanding liberty, but reckless and stupid behavior like what Channel 4 is doing makes me understand why people are less enthusiastic about doing so.

I'll admit, I'm even a bit iffy on how the animal is treated to make the foie gras, but I'm opposed to these bans, and I'm getting more aggro about opposing stupid bans more and more on the basis of combatting the Nanny State.

Beyond that, he has two US stories, one on a ban, and a consideration of a ban on baggy pants. Yeah, baggy fucking pants.
All the problems that the West is facing, and we focus on fucking balloons and baggy pants?
God help us...

That said, it has been an economic positive, alcohol sales taxes have increased tax rolls significantly, for both the city and the school system. Its also caused a growth in the restaurant business because they built in Athens to escape Prohibition. You'll notice I'm using Prohibition instead of the less charged term 'dry', that's intentional.
I was amazed to learn nearly a third of Alabama is still under Prohibition. I'm appalled by the fact that Pennsylvania's liquor industry is a government owned operation, but I think I'm even more disgusted by the Nanny Statism on display by Alabama. Too many religious conservatives fall into this trap, and its gonna damage the conservative movement.

Apparently, some incredibly awesome person donated a huge pile of LEGOs to a school. As we all know, LEGOs kick ass, and a couple of kids started to build a LEGO city. Awesome right? Wrong! Or, wrong if you are a douchebag public school teacher.
You see, the young children were displaying certain...undesirable bourgeois behaviors. The children were showing possession of certain buildings, some were larger and nicer than others, only some of the buildings were 'public' buildings. "Well, we can't have this!" the teachers declared. Its encouraging inequality and capitalist values!
One day, the kids came back to find their beloved town was annihilated, presumably by Mothra or a Socialist Douchemonster.
Then, the rebuilding began, under the watchful eye of Big Brother. All buildings were public buildings, and all of the buildings were to be uniform. As the piece linked says, its amazing how natural it was for the children to adopt a basic market model. And yet, the staff of the school was disturbed by this capitalist trend, and felt it was theirs to change into a Socialist model.
Its sick that these teachers weren't too ashamed to pull this shit, and even worse that they can actually print publications about it. And worst of all is the fact that there hasn't been a near riot from angry parents wanting to know what this Socialist nonsense is about.
I'll be curious to see when they publish the piece on how the kids decided the new Socialist rules sucked and either abandoned the town or trashed it, or if they try and either quietly or overtly go back to their capitalist bourgeois ways. Heh, who am I kidding, that'll never get published, it'll go down the memory hole, just like any other little inconvenient fact that contradicts Big Brother.
If anyone wants to know why I decided teaching wasn't for me...this is why. The public education system is so messed up, so backward and outdated, so leftist, the only thing that is gonna save it is to let it rot and collapse on itself like the USSR.

Ignore the obligatory paranoid rantings about habeus corpus and Bush mind control, he's beginning to accept that the Second Amendment plays a central role in a free society and personal defense... baby steps, people.
He admits that criminals are going to get their hands on weapons anyway, so it makes sense that citizens have their own. He acknowledges that its no guarantee of safety, but it improves your chances. He also points out that many criminals are targeting women and children(they are), and they need protection, the government simply isn't doing the job.
Lets hope this is a real change of heart, and won't flip back into liberal doublethink in the next news cycle. I'm not sure it will.

I'm not sure if this is real or a goof, but as over the top as it is, combined with the fact that they have the very openly gay Andrew Sullivan, who is no fan of Religious inspired rule, while denouncing RedState is a leftist/RINO front, it makes me think its bull. There is no chance in hell that a bunch of Baptists who are purging demons on their site, then linking to a gay guy who rails against 'Christianists' relentlessly.
I saw this thing linked at Fark, and given that we've seen one bogus site, I'm wondering if maybe we've found another.

Ignore the moronic talk radio banter at the end, this is bad. Apparently, there were tiles ripped out above the bathrooms of the crisis center, and a doll for a puppet troupe(used by a different group that shares the building) was also, er, abused.

What other movies, TV shows or characters can you think of that represent conservative archetypes in the sinistrosphere?

After all, is there anything more fun than blowing away Nazis? Well, maybe zombies...I think I'd like to see game where zombie Nazis were the baddies, and see if that is the pinnacle of gaming awesomeness.

Is staring at the sun. Its a practice that is taking root in Atlanta, its virtue preached by Hira Ratan Manek, a retired Indian spice trader. You only stare during sunrise and sunset, and you only do it for ten seconds at first, but you add time every time you do it, though Manek says no more than 45 minutes.
Its gaining followers too, which is a bit scary, says one of the starers,
"We get our energy from plants," she says. "And plants get their energy from the sun. Why not cut out the middle man?"
Lemme know when you start photosynthesizing, sweetheart.
Anyway, the article has the obligatory 'don't fry your eyeballs doing this stupid crap' message from a doctor. I'm with the doctor on this one. I'll be curious how long it takes before someone sues Manek for talking them into burning out their retinas.
