UK's Channel 4 To Run Reality Show On Binge Drug Use

This should end well...

The show is in development right now, and will be set in the Netherlands (presumably Amsterdam), where they plan on setting loose several people who take drugs and drink recreationally in a totally drug legal environment for a month and see what happens.

Now, I'm little libertine on some drugs (like marijuana, though I've never touched the stuff), but this is just abusive, its clear that the intent here is to get contestants in over their heads, either to OD or get really sick, or watching them become dependent, under the veil of "documentary."

There are lifelong consequences to doing stuff like this, and its reckless on the part of Channel 4.  We all know how reality type shows work, and that presence of crews and cameras encourage participants (who are already predisposed to camera whoring) to engage in riskier behavior then they normally would.

Most people know where to cut it off with things like tobacco, alcohol or marijuana and can stop or reduce intake when they need to, but there is that core who can't, or those who are borderline, but could be pushed into that addiction zone with a push in the right direction.  There will probably be some of those borderline people on this show, and they could very well be sent into a path of lifelong addiction or a hard fought war with it.

I'm all in favor of expanding liberty, but reckless and stupid behavior like what Channel 4 is doing makes me understand why people are less enthusiastic about doing so.

Nanny Knows What's Best For You

Ah, more Nanny State goodness.  Chicago is considering putting a sales tax on bottled water.  This is of course, after they ban foie gras.  Now, maybe you find one or both of these things stupid, I sometimes drink bottled water, and I'll probably never eat foie gras, but again, this is a city that is basically undergoing a process of slowly stripping away as many rights from individuals as they can, and far too many other places are following  the same pattern.

I'll admit, I'm  even a bit iffy on how the animal is treated to make the foie gras, but I'm opposed to these bans, and I'm getting more aggro about opposing stupid bans more and more on the basis of combatting the Nanny State.

See, We Do Face a Grave Threat From Zombies

Or rather, a threat from the grave...

Anyway, this is Bush addressing this important issue, I'll send you to IMAO to see it.

Oh, and thanks to Tushar for the tip!

Drudge Apparently Went With A Nanny State Theme Today Too...

Bastard!  He scooped me!  Anyway, he's got this bit of Nanny Statism linked too.  In Britain they're banning a clown from using balloons because there might be children with latex allergies...

Beyond that, he has two US stories, one on a ban, and a consideration of a ban on baggy pants.  Yeah, baggy fucking pants.

All the problems that the West is facing, and we focus on fucking balloons and baggy pants?

God help us...

Nanny Statism: Conservatives Are Not Immune From The Idiot Disease

The grinding march toward the Nanny State continues, this time in Athens, Alabama.  They are considering a reinstatement of Prohibition in the city, part of a campaign by Christian groups, a mere four years after they voted to end Prohibition in the city.  Businesses are trying to argue from a tax and economic level, which I think is unfortunate.  They should be arguing on the basis of personal rights, and the dangers of setting a precedent for more Nanny Statism.

That said, it has been an economic positive, alcohol sales taxes have increased tax rolls significantly, for both the city and the school system.  Its also caused a growth in the restaurant business because they built in Athens to escape Prohibition.  You'll notice I'm using Prohibition instead of the less charged term 'dry', that's intentional.

I was amazed to learn nearly a third of Alabama is still under Prohibition.  I'm appalled by the fact that Pennsylvania's liquor industry is a government owned operation, but I think I'm even more disgusted by the Nanny Statism on display by Alabama.  Too many religious conservatives fall into this trap, and its gonna damage the conservative movement.

PSA: More Chinese Made Toys Recalled For Various Safety Hazards

Its estimated that about 8 million Mattel toys are faulty and fail to meet US safety standards.  Again, lead paint was used on many of the toys, others have loose magnets that could be swallowed, there have been no official complaints or reports of health problems.  Over a million die-cast cars are subject to recall, several playsets that use magnets, and figures from Batman and One Piece.

Since I'm On An All LEGO, All The Time Format, LEGO Pinball Set!

This is pretty cool.  Not as cool as the Harry S. Truman  aircraft carrier, but cool.  It has a link to the first prototype, which is less impressive, but it shows the process of making a LEGO pinball machine.

YES! Finally, A Grievance Group For Me!

Via Hotair Headlines, this BBC column tracks the rise of a growing grievance group...for left handed people.  I will say, when you are a little kid, being left handed sucks ass, because they never, EVER have left handed scissors and other stuff like that, and when they do, they are usually a shitty, rusted out dull pair that has been used by every left handed kid since the school opened in 1948.  Really, I think these people would go away if people quit trying to force them to write with their right hands and use righty or really crappy lefty scissors when they were little kids, you see the trauma schools cause?

Now, when do I get my shakedown money...

More LEGO News

I of course, have to include as much LEGO news as I can, now that Wickedpinto has made it near cliche.  So this one is good, and by good, I mean disturbing.  Its an old story I saw a while ago, but I don't think I wrote anything on it, it could be new to all ten of my readers.  Mostly I'm putting it in because Allah put this in Hotair Headlines, and its worth writing about.

Apparently, some incredibly awesome person donated a huge pile of LEGOs to a school.  As we all know, LEGOs kick ass, and a couple of kids started to build a LEGO city.  Awesome right?  Wrong!  Or, wrong if you are a douchebag public school teacher.

You see, the young children were displaying certain...undesirable bourgeois behaviors.   The children were showing possession of certain buildings, some were larger and nicer than others, only some of the buildings were 'public' buildings.  "Well, we can't have this!" the teachers declared.  Its encouraging inequality and capitalist values!

One day, the kids came back to find their beloved town was annihilated, presumably by Mothra or a Socialist Douchemonster.

Then, the rebuilding began, under the watchful eye of Big Brother.  All buildings were public buildings, and all of the buildings were to be uniform.  As the piece linked says, its amazing how natural it was for the children to adopt a basic market model.  And yet, the staff of the school was disturbed by this capitalist trend, and felt it was theirs to change into a Socialist model.

Its sick that these teachers weren't too ashamed to pull this shit, and even worse that they can actually print publications about it.  And worst of all is the fact that there hasn't been a near riot from angry parents wanting to know what this Socialist nonsense is about.

I'll be curious to see when they publish the piece on how the kids decided the new Socialist rules sucked and either abandoned the town or trashed it, or if they try and either quietly or overtly go back to their capitalist bourgeois ways.  Heh, who am I kidding, that'll never get published, it'll go down the memory hole, just like any other little inconvenient fact that contradicts Big Brother.

If anyone wants to know why I decided teaching wasn't for me...this is why.  The public education system is so messed up, so backward and outdated, so leftist, the only thing that is gonna save it is to let it rot and collapse on itself like the USSR.

Hero!

A woman attacked and punched a karaoke singer who was singing Coldplay's "Yellow."  We all know Coldplay sucks and is fucking annoying as hell.  I'd be sympathetic if she attacked the real Coldplay, I can only imagine how awful the karaoke version was.  I think she should be able to get off on self-defense.

"Time to Admit The 'Gun Nuts' Are Right"

A liberal news editor is beginning to see the light on Second Amendment issues after the brutal murders of the women in Petit family.

Ignore the obligatory paranoid rantings about habeus corpus and Bush mind control, he's beginning to accept that the Second Amendment plays a central role in a free society and personal defense... baby steps, people.

He admits that criminals are going to get their hands on weapons anyway, so it makes sense that citizens have their own.  He acknowledges that its no guarantee of safety, but it improves your chances.  He also points out that many criminals are targeting women and children(they are), and they need protection, the government simply isn't doing the job.

Lets hope this is a real change of heart, and won't flip back into liberal doublethink in the next news cycle.  I'm not sure it will.

Woman From Australia Gets Detained For Swearing at Flight Attendant...

She was flying to Pittsburgh, and asked the flight attendent if there were any pretzels to snack on.  The attendent told her no, and the woman said "Fair Dinkum".  The attendent reported that she was being cursed at, and had the woman detained when they landed.  Except, the woman never swore at her, Fair Dinkum is basically Aussie slang for True or Really?

Another Goof Site?

This one's Baptists for Brownback, so its not like its of any consequence seeing as Sen. Switchback has no bloody chance of winning the presidency.

I'm not sure if this is real or a goof, but as over the top as it is, combined with the fact that they have the very openly gay Andrew Sullivan, who is no fan of Religious inspired rule, while denouncing RedState is a leftist/RINO front, it makes me think its bull.  There is no chance in hell that a bunch of Baptists who are purging demons on their site, then linking to a gay guy who rails against 'Christianists' relentlessly.

I saw this thing linked at Fark, and given that we've seen one bogus site, I'm wondering if maybe we've found another.

Genius: Sex Offender Rehab Clinic Set Up Next To Rape/Sexual Abuse Crisis Center

Brilliant.

Ignore the moronic talk radio banter at the end, this is bad.  Apparently, there were tiles ripped out above the bathrooms of the crisis center, and a doll for a puppet troupe(used by a different group that shares the building) was also, er, abused.

So, Why Do You Have a Vest Made Of Donkey Penis Skins?

Is a question that Jorge Hank Rhon received after his admitting defeat in the Tijuana gubernatorial election.  He calmly offered the journalist in his office filled with elephant tusks, figurines in naughty poses, and a painting of him in a clown costume the following,

"I don't know if you've ever stopped to think about what is the softest part of an animal's skin,"

Too weird.

Nice Deb gives us a reminder that this memorial still hasn't been changed and likely won't, I'll send you there for details.  As some of you might know, it features a crescent shape and faces Mecca.  Go read Nice Deb's piece, and her links, then lemme know what you think about this crap.

Everything I Know About Conservatives, I Learned on Film or TV

I've been thinking about this awhile, but Bryan at HotAir linked a video of somebody playing Dueling Banjos in Guitar Hero, with the obligatory Deliverance youtube link, of course. It brought this line of thinking up for me again.  Deliverance has essentially become a boiled down version of what the Left thinks of rural and southerners in the country.

What other movies, TV shows or characters can you think of that represent conservative archetypes in the sinistrosphere?

Flash Based Wolfenstein 3d!

Okay, the quality is mediocre, and its just the first episode, but hey, its Wolfenstein, and I doubt you have the real Wolfenstein 3d sitting right there for you to play, do you?

After all, is there anything more fun than blowing away Nazis?  Well, maybe zombies...I think I'd like to see game where zombie Nazis were the baddies, and see if that is the pinnacle of gaming awesomeness.

The Hottest New Age Trend...

*Welcome Back, HotAir readers!

Is staring at the sun.   Its a practice that is taking root in Atlanta, its virtue preached by Hira Ratan Manek, a retired Indian spice trader.  You only stare during sunrise and sunset, and you only do it for ten seconds at first, but you add time every time you do it, though Manek says no more than 45 minutes.

Its gaining followers too, which is a bit scary, says one of the starers,

"We get our energy from plants," she says. "And plants get their energy from the sun. Why not cut out the middle man?"

Lemme know when you start photosynthesizing, sweetheart.

Anyway, the article has the obligatory 'don't fry your eyeballs doing this stupid crap' message from a doctor.  I'm with the doctor on this one.  I'll be curious how long it takes before someone sues Manek for talking them into burning out their retinas.

Ask Amy

This is funny!  A father asks Amy what he should do about his teen sons and his neighbor, a 30 year old single girl who likes to lay out topless in her yard next door.  His boys play baseball, and he's noticed they have more fouls that go over the fence when she's out tanning.  She even had one of them rub her back with lotion, and he asks what he should do.

Heh, reminds me of...
