As I'm sure some of our three readers have noticed, I'm a believer in separating the terrorist acts of Islamofascism from the religion of Islam. I think blaming all Islams for 9/11 is not that different from blaming all Catholics for the pedophilia scandals in the Catholic Church, or blaming all Christians for the bombing of abortion clinics. Granted, Muslims have been slower to speak out against violence done in the name of their religion, but it's happening more and more and I believe that movement will continue to grow if it's received with welcome from non-Muslims.
That said, I think the idea of a mosque so close to the site of an act of terror committed in the name of Islam is a horrible idea. The builders are well aware that this is repugnant to the majority of New Yorkers and especially to people who lost loved ones or survived 9/11. Continuing to build a mosque at this location in light of the opposition to it demonstrates that it is meant as a direct affront.
And of course, Obama has to stick his nose in local matters again, giving an opinion on something he has no right or reason to be concerned with in an offiicial fashion. His support of the mosque is not coming in an offhand remark to a friend, it was expressed at a podium in prepared remarks at an official state function. This is even more of a gaffe than the "the Cambridge police acted stupidly" comment a year ago, as he's purposely weighing in on something he has no business sticking his nose in and once again, he's on the wrong side. Obama claims this is a freedom of religion issue, but I don't recall hearing Obama weighing in on the side of Catholics when we oppose tax dollars paying for abortions - he says one thing and then does whatever the hell he wants. I understand that Obama wants to be a hip and unconventional president, and if that's how he wishes to be viewed that's fine and dandy, but there's a difference between being the president who doesn't want to give up his Blackberry because he's the hip, tech savvy Commander in Chief and a president who doesn't recognize the boundaries of his job and uses his podium to express official opinions on happenings the Office of the President has no legal standing to weigh in on.
I am so hopeful that the GOP can get its act together enough to present a strong presidential candidate in 2012. I previously thought that Obama would be a one-term president because he has a lack of stick-to-itiveness and would be thinking that he could just move on to run the UN, but he's been given such an easy ride that he'll continue in office. It's up to Republicans to lose the 2012 race; unfortunately, we're really good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I suppose now would be the time to ask if any of you masturbate with your non-dominant hand, but that would probably be over the top.

Can someone explain to me how the hell it is that a public servant's pension is secret? Seriously, how? There was a stink here a few years back when some watchdog group filed suit to find out how much Joe Pa was getting paid. You know what? The group was right, he's a public employee, his salary should be public. Same thing with pensions. If the public's paying it, the public has a right to know how much it is.

in 2009, only 29% of those polled said that Iran's acquisition of nuclear weapons would be "positive" for the Middle East; in 2010, 57% of those polled indicate that such an outcome would be "positive" for the Middle East.
So kissing people's asses doesn't make them respect you. You'd think Obama would know that, considering his contempt for Minitru.
Via The Belmont Club who links to a bunch of places showing this trend, including this gem from the Asia times
When respondents were asked to name the world leader they admired most, Obama’s standing was less than 1%. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was cited most often (20%), followed by last year’s top pick, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (13%), and Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad (12%).
RTWT, it's pretty funny.
You know, in an endy way.

Given that they {Muslims}are such a small minority in this nation, it is odd that so many of our fellow citizens see them as such a threat. Yes, the 9/11 attacks were horrific, but they were more about optics than actual harm {Optics?!? What the fuck do you fucking call buildings falling from the fucking sky and 3000 people dying? Optics?!?-ed}. The economy was already taking a hit before the Twin Towers fell. The reaction of the nation to seeing two major buildings in New York fall on T.V. has boosted the attack out of proportion {yeah, and so did seeing our nation attacked. But what the fuck do I fucking know?-ed}. While the loss of even a single life is to be condemned and the devastation these deaths caused the families of those killed, more than this number of teens are killed every year in car crashes {a bit tu quoque, but what about you guys mocking our assertions that more people were killed in Detroit on a given day than in Iraq or Afghanistan?-ed}. These are also tragic losses but we do not make the kind of high profile issue of it that the 9/11 attacks are.
No, Fuckdiggler McFucklick, we don't because, while horrible, a teenager killed on "Blood Alley Road" is not the fucking same as fucking seeing four of our fucking airplanes used as missiles against us. Johnny Varsity losing his life is not the fucking same as fucking seeing people jump 100 stories to their fucking deaths because that was preferable to being burned alive because of some of your fucking optics. And we make a fucking high profile issue out o f 9/11 because it was a fucking act of fucking war against the United States of Amerifuckingca by animals who wanted to kill and scare as many fucking people as they could. And striking back was and always fucking will be the fucking proper course of action when our homeland is attacked.
Seriously, fuck you, braindead fuckbuddy of the fuckplunger of fuck. Fuck your indifference and implicit mockery of how people felt and continue to feel about one of the deadliest attacks on American soil, an attack that went out of its way to kill civilians for the crime of being alive, in order to defend a political argument. Fuck you for trying to minimize and trivialize the fucking deaths of innocent humans because you think you can score political points by doing so. And fuck you for your refusal to acknowledge that the "optics" of a mosque close enough to the hole in the ground created by fucking followers of the Religion of Peace may not be the best thing going right now.
Fuck you, Kos Kid. Fuck you for your douchebaggery. Fuck you for trying to embrace those who wish to kill and mock us in the name of "tolerance". Fuck you for being so fucking clueless on the 9/11 attacks that you seem to equate them with a smokebomb in your neighbor's mailbox. Fuck fucking fuckwaffles like yourself who fail to realize that we are at FUCKING WAR with the people who want to plant a victory flag too damn fucking fuckity fuck close to the ground where they attacked us. Fuck you for being so clueless about terrorism that you are scary. And double mega fuck you with the fuckmixer from the concrete of fuck for being part of the coalition of the fucking stupid and dangerously clueless that helped put into power those who think nothing of weakening and humiliating ourselves in the name of tolerance.
Fuck you, Kos Kid. Fuck you and your flaming fuckabolic fuckbrain on fucking stupid for even being able to write what you wrote. May you get fuckkebabbed by the souls of the people killed on 9/11 for minimizing and dismissing their deaths.

Not as hard as the dick you're eating, you preening douchebag.
Christ, how can a president be this useless? Watching him 'run' the country is like watching retards fuck. I knew he was an incompetent, arrogant prick but I figured he'd at least be able to manage the political angle. He's proven to be ridiculously inept at even that. Seems that, more than any other flaw, him believing his own hype is the most damaging thing to him. Not only did America believe that he could heal our wounds by just TRYING REALLY HARD but he did too.
Stupid. Motherfucking. Communist. Shithead.

I was in NY and heard something that even made my lefty sister accept that maybe we're in the Funniest end of Civilization Ever.
NY OTB is in bankruptcy.
That's right, one of the biggest bookies in the country is going bankrupt.
Why? It's NY. The pols are blatantly and ridiculously corrupt.
There are two ways a bookie can go bankrupt, if he's just starting out and gets hit with a bunch of longshot wins or his protection money is too costly.
I'll give you hint, OTB hasn't paid out any $10 million winners lately.
OT question (can it be OT if it's in the post?)
Did anybody else think the "Hero Flight Attendant" was probably a dick?
I've flown a fair amount since 9/11 (probably 2-4 R/Ts a year) and I've seen a marked decrease in civility on stewardesses and stewards.
They're dicks because if you give them a hard time, you spend the next day of your life dealing with a tremendous hassle, if not jail time.
Now it's coming out he was an asshole and I'm absolutely unsurprised.
I only fly when I'm going farther than 5 hours by car, although I'm starting to drive up to 10 hours because I'm totally sick of dealing with idiots with the power to take my freedom when they're in a bad mood.

I don't intend to defend the bastards who are involved in the controversy, nor will I suggest that if they were all Republicans, the MFM wouldn't be all over that like flies on shit, but city council and appointed city positions here in SoCal tend to be "non-partisan," which is to say that there's usually no party affiliation listed after the person's name.
You can usually guess which way a politician here leans based on their votes (not to mention their ambitions toward moving on up to Sacramento), and it shouldn't exactly come as a surprise that the people running a mostly-Latino, working class city like Bell are Dems.
All I'm saying is that there are a lot more outrageously outrageous Democrat-media complex stories out there.
P.S. If any of these points were made in the comments at AoSHQ, I apologize for being redundant, but I almost never wade in there anymore.

I have a brilliant fucking idea. How about when people get their ATM/Debit/Credit cards you put their language preference ON THE FUCKING CARD so I don't have to answer that stupid question every time I want to use it.
I know, what a concept.

Unfortunately, these numbers wouldn't have been much better, if at all, with McInnis. I don't think. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe he could have turned the plagiarism thing around. I'll say this - the people conducting the whisper campaign after the plagiarism story broke did more of a disservice to him than I think they realize, if anything they were more convincing that he didn't deserve the job. "That's just what congressmen do" doesn't float, especially this election cycle.
7% of the returned GOP ballots left the gubernatorial selection blank. I'd be willing to be a good chunk of those were people who would have voted for McInnis but couldn't stomach it, and couldn't stomach voting for Maes either.
Tom Tancredo learned nothing from NY-23, and the Colorado GOP has learned nothing from the Tea Parties - they're already trying to find someone else to run in place of Maes. If the local party officials stood by the 11th Commandment as much as they screamed about it when their personal candidates were being exposed for corruption, they'd be backing Maes a hundred percent; instead, they're stabbing him in the back before his campaign even gets started.
