Venezuelan Army resisting Chavez efforts to turn it into ideological enforcement tool
Chavez already had a General, Ángel Vivas Perdomo detained and interrogated, and many officers have resigned or been sidelined as a result of efforts by Chavez to seize control of the military.
Chavez has also removed Catholic priests as chaplains, and installed priests from his puppet "Reform Catholic Church", made up of renegade pro-Chavez former Catholic priests, and is trying to force the military to adopt a Marxist salute and slogan in the style of the Cuban military. A lot of military folks in Venezuela aren't happy about Chavez running roughshod over their traditions, and some noise is being made.
You know guys, you could uh, deal with this Chavez problem. It'd save North and South America a lot of trouble, would probably make things much better in Venezuela and South America at large and you'd break the hearts of the sniveling Marxist vermin here in the US too.

all good and fine, but a military coup would have two drawbacks.
1) It would not necessarily work. Remember the last one in which Chavez was and then wasn't overthrown? And he's been taking steps to increase his hold over the militar ever since. This is just the lastest series.
2) The military undoubtedly knows that if the stage a coup, they will be, in a backhanded way, validating Chavez' route to power. It was an attempted but failed coup that first brought him to prominence.

I think they need to try it, what else can they do? This guy is going to take them over and become a well entrenched dictator otherwise. And given his rhetoric, he is only bound to move in a totalitarian direction. They can make their move and try and stop him, whether it "justifies" the wanker's rise to power or not I think is a lesser point.
He's had a lot of setbacks in recent months, and having the military temporarily take control of things when civilian leadership spirals out of control is nothing new in Latin America. A lot of military forces in Latin America maintain their independence from political factions for exactly that reason.

I've been banging this guy for a long time. He is a threat, this Iranian terrorist group is just part of a long, long line of problems. What I want everyone to pay very close attention to is the connection between chavez and the ' local food ' movement here in the USA. Everywhere at these local farmers markets are activists from the 'truth and justice committie' which has major ties to the UN and the usual suspects countries. It is involved with the obama campaign as well. The reason this matters, is that the acceptance of this 'socialist ' reform in farming is the ground work for communist take over down the road by controling our greatest resource the ability to produce huge amounts of food. These 'activists' are working to destroy our nation form the inside out. It is time to confront them and send them out of America. Otherwise, they will be opening the door to welcome the master chavez who will reward those who did his bidding.
