As you'll recall, the Senate voted to give DC a House rep, despite the fact it is explicitly unconstitutional to do so. Fortunately, Senator Ensign decided to add an amendment to the bill which would force DC into compliance with the Second Amendment, basically ending all the little bullshit abuses DC was heaping on to spite the Heller decision.
The Democrats in the House tried to strip that amendment, and the NRA declared the Ensign amendment a key issue, which means it goes onto the scorecard, i.e., vote the right way, Democrats, or you'll get 94'd again. Pelosi folded. I'm not happy that we're trading a horribly unconstitutional thing for a constitutional thing, but we're stuck doing this kind of thing until we smack some sense into the GOP leadership, and this was a pretty big tactical and psychological win for the NRA.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for the NRA, but.....
From the Hill article
There was no official call to arms, nothing on the NRA website, no alerts floating around. Just speculation among Democrats and Republicans that the NRA would make a procedural vote on legislation that would give the District of Columbia a voting member of Congress a “test vote.”
In other words, it wasn't the NRA, it was that they know that gun control is a loser.
That's us.

As a newer gun owner, have you joined the NRA? I hope so, it took me several years, but I finally bit the bullet and paid for the life membership. Now I can feel smug and never forget to renew.

I REALLY want to buy a gun, but my wife is very against it.Not just cause of the zombies ( I can always go Gordon Freeman on them with a crowbar, or Duke Nuke'm with the chainsaw) but more because of Dear Leader and his visions of a socialist utopia....
It's not something I can just go buy behind her back, and hide from her. I couldnt do that to her about anything. But I dont know how I can change her mind. Any ideas??

While not ideal for zombies buy a 2nd hand .22. (revolver is best to start) (baby steps) Off the books not traceable etc. You could keep it in the tool box, or tackle box etc and decide when to tell the wife.
Or explain the reason you feel you need one. To protect her, the children etc. Then hoping she agrees, I would still start with a .22 go to a range and get comfortable with it, then invite the wife. Once she is comfortable firing the .22 it is time to trade in or buy a larger caliber.
Camel Nose, Tent. .22 Easy Peasy like firing a cap gun.

Mr Fixit, take her shooting. Start with 9mm pistol or even a pistol caliber rifle (.357 magnum Winchester or other lever action is a very easy gun to shoot), work your way up to .44 magnum revolver.
After she wipes the grin off her face, it'll be much easier to get her to okay the gun purchase.
