Something to follow

Kwame Kilpatrick is the latest to be thrown under the Hopenchangemobile, but I'll be curious to see how much corrupt political machinery harms the Obama campaign.  Kilpatrick has been a disaster for Detroit, but by no means is Kilpatrick the only corrupt politician in Detroit that could become a high profile embarrassment for Obama

That link talks about the equally unstable Monica Conyers.  She's a real loose cannon, and could also prove to be an embarrassment, and the fact that she's the wife of John Conyers just makes it that much worse.  And there could easily be more.   These are just two people in one city, undoubtedly more inconvenient friendships could come to the fore in Detroit.  Then you have to look at the rest, Philly, NY, LA, and pretty much every other big city.

The problem is less about big city corruption as it is about how openly and stupidly corrupt and reckless they are, and Kilpatrick and Conyers are among the worst in Detroit.  I think that "I'm not really bothered as much by (certain poor conduct) as I am that you violate said rules like no one is going to call you on your bullshit" factor comes into play.  I'll be curious what sort of embarrassing political connections surface in Chicago.  Wright and Pfleger are political forces, but I'm thinking in terms of traditional political figures.

1 The city machine in STL is infamously (and comically) corrupt. When our dead people vote, it's hilarious how awful they are at doing it. They have dead Aldermen and celebrities vote here.

2 Heh, that is pretty bad, but I bet Philly is worse.

3 The problem with STL is that we don't have one towering family to mock. And so many of the "families" fight each other to the point of comedy.
