That means they go back to the system before that, right? The one where, if they find out you're gay, they kick you out.
ask so if you lie and they find out, you're in trouble for being gay and lying.
Did this judge wave a wand and change the policies of the US military so it's, ipso facto and presto chango, okay to be gay in the military?

Maybe it means that they can ask you if you're gay during enlistment and if you lie you get sent to Gitmo?

DADT was a fucking joke anyway. My mom's ex-wife joined the National Guard around '95 or '96, and when she went through basic training the questions were still asked, even though they weren't trying to ask them. You simply can't build a comradery if you can't ask simple questions like "What's your husband's name?" when you see a wedding band on another female soldier's finger.

I wonder how if affects the people who are serving right now though.
Are they grandfathered in? Are they asked? If they aren't asked, isn't that the "don't ask" part? And if they 'tell' without being asked, are they kicked out?
If they cannot be thrown out for being gay, that would appear to mean that you can be gay in the military, and since we have equal protection, the military has to accept homosexual soldiers.
This decision has some very interesting implications.
Somehow, I think the military wishes everybody would leave them the hell alone.
