"So, how's that going?"

That's the question Mark Steyn asks after this bit of snark:

In the Washington Post, E. J. Dionne tried to break it gently to us: “No occupant of the White House has ever been able to walk on water.”

Yeah, sure, no previous occupant of the White House has been able to walk on water—your Eisenhowers and Roosevelts, your Chester Arthurs and Grover Clevelands and whatnot. But Barack Obama didn’t run as just another of those squaresville losers. He was gonna heal the planet, and lower the oceans. So, even if he couldn’t walk on water, he should at least be able to paddle in it. “He is a community organizer like Jesus was,” said Susan Sarandon, “and now we’re a community and he can organize us.”
Needless to say, Steyn—like the rest of us—is not impressed. This really is going to be the Funniest End of Civilization evar.

Read the whole thing, and chuckle as you seethe.

Ya know, for a good two years I forced myself to read EJ Dionne, Richard Cohen and Camille Paglia to get a better grasp of how the mind of a leftist functions (I was dating a pretty braindead lefty at the time and this seemed like a way to find common ground...as if) and I'll tell ya: Cohen and Dionne were, 9 times out of 10, almost impossible to get all the way through without asking myself several times "what the fuck is this guy on?!" Paglia had a better batting average, but only because she's sort of the anti-Feminist, feminist and, a lot of the time, she at least came across as semi-logical even if her conclusions were, on the whole, dead wrong.

Needless to say, I gave up that little attempt at browsing the 'reasonable' side of the left-o-sphere arond '04-05 and now only occcasionally read Paglia--Cohen and Dionne having long since been cast into the outer, intellectual, darkness.

2 I think what is most interesting (or gut wrenchingly sad) is the complete lack of knowledge of history Obama and his fellow liberals show. Do they not understand how weakness of position created wars? Have they not benefitted from tax cuts and in turn seen the economy grow? How do they react when they read the papers and find out a terrorist released from Gitmo is detained again for conspiracy or another act of aggression? Were they themselves immune to the effects of Carter's policies that lead to economy crushing inflation? What don't they get? A paper? The internet? Wise up, dummies. Review some history. Insane spending leads to printing more money which inevitably leads to inflation. Which leads to food lines and gas lines. What's not to get?

3 In 1932, FDR tried to buoy hopes by his "the only thing we have to fear..." line. In 1960, JFK challenged us all to do more and better things, "not because they are easy, but because they are hard." 2008, we have this. I have never been a Democrat, but this is getting embarrassing and shameful. And my anger is directed mostly at the MSM, for basically creating this guy, and then shilling for him.
