Rachel Maddow: Constitutional Scholar

Seriously, I thought that she was supposed to smart.

RACHEL MADDOW, HOST: Congressman Akin was not alone in stumbling over a little basic U.S. history. He had some good company in the top Republican in the House, Minority Leader John Boehner.

(VIDEOTAPE)

JOHN BOEHNER (R-OHIO.): This is my copy of the Constitution. And I'm gonna stand here with our Founding Fathers who wrote in the Preamble, "We hold these truths to be self-evident..."

(END VIDEOTAPE):

MADDOW (waving hands): Nnn, Constitution doesn't have a Preamble. Not. Nope. Stop it. That would be the Declaration of Independence. Ooh.

1 We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, among them are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness-man, you just don't hear music like that too much these days, yet from my readings of our history, there was a river of genius flowing from our founders. Anyway the Constitution has a preamble too-saw them both in DC several years ago in that huge, round high ceilinged room-one of the coolest days of my life to stand in front of these great documents knowing they were handled by such great men
