Prayers Answered: MST3K Finally Has A Distributor!

Shout! Factory, which is apparently known for buying rights to release DVDs and downloads for cult TV shows and movies.  They'll be releasing all the episodes on DVD and will be available for download.  Sweet.

All but the first one, a tape of which has never turned up.

I suppose this'll be the end of the Digital Archive Project, which made their efforts quasi-legal by pulling downloads of MST3Ks as they were  released on DVD.

I've got a hundred or so eps from them, and I sort of like the fact they're low res. I tend to run them in a little window in the corner of my monitor while I work, so the quality doesn't bother me.

Oh, well...I'll be first in line to buy the DVD versions.

2 Yeah, Digital Archive was great, but hey, now you can get the real thing.  I'll be saving up for them.

3 Man, I really hope they're captioned.  The majority of extant MST3K DVDs are not, which is very annoying because I don't have a chance in hell at reading the lips of black silhouettes facing away from me.

I might see if I can contact the company and see what a little beggin' will do.  They may be legally compelled to provide captioning, but with all the exceptions in the ADA for the non-sexy handicaps, there's no telling.

4 I just sent them a total guilt-trip email.  I'm so evil.

5 Heh, hopefully you'll get somewhere.

6 Where it'll be tough is that there's a lot of crosstalk between the movie and Joel or Mike, Crow and Servo.

7 Man, I really hope they're captioned.

That would be nice - I'd use the captions to catch all the asides.

8 The movie (which was legally required to be captioned) put the lines from This Island Earth at the top and the lines from Mike & robots at the bottom.

9 That would probably work.
