Of course the DE primary is a huge clusterfuck!

I'll start off by saying normally I'd have a preferred candidate, but I don't really have one, if I had to pick, I'd probably say O'Donnell for no other reason than to dislodge an incumbent, shake shit up for the sake of shaking shit up and to kick the GOP leadership in the balls again.

Look, this is exactly what happens when there is no functional party leadership, and there is no functional party leadership, oh, there are people holding positions, making statements and shifting money around, but they aren't leaders.  Leaders lead, and you can't lead if the people you're attempting to lead have zero faith and trust in you.

There's a strong case to be made that Castle should be the guy, especially given that, as our friend and moronblogger-in-arms tmi3rd noted a few weeks ago on Twitter, Delaware is so blue it looks like a Smurf splatter flick, the question I guess becomes, is he in that acceptable range of RINOism, or has he reached that Linc Chafee/Scozzafava You know what, not worth it stage of RINOism?  Beyond that, there's no doubt that O'Donnell is a bit flaky and off.

The problem is that the GOP leadership led the charge for Castle, because only the GOP leadership could get excited about a squish like him.  Anything that the GOP leadership willingly supports is going to automatically be suspect amongst the grassroots and Tea Partiers, even if the blind pigs of the GOP leadership did in fact find a truffle.  Those amongst us in the blogosphere and commentariat who are grinding their teeth over this Castle/O'Donnell thing need to chill the fuck out.  We're getting angry at the wrong people.

In a way I'm reacting to the slapfight going on between the Powerline guys, Mark Levin, Patterico and Dan Riehl.  One quote from Paul Mirengoff seems to really be the center of the shitstorm,

"It's disconcerting to realize that many of our activists aren't even as astute as the likes of Markos Moulitsas."

First off, Mirengoff deserves every ounce of abuse he's getting for an ignorant incendiary line like that.  But in a way, he's right, especially with regards to Tea Partiers.  Yeah, he's not wrong entirely, a lot of these Tea Partiers are political novices.  And yeah, mistakes are going to be made as a result of that.  Kos and his merry band of Marxists are fairly politically experienced and savvy (in their own demented, evil way), and the handy thing for liberals is that they're collectivists, so new people are simply drones, drones don't have to think, they just have to do what they're told, if they're more to the human hive, they'll present themselves as such in due time.  Individualists don't operate that way, so there's always going to be growing pains associated with bringing new people in for conservatives and libertarians.

Instead of grinding his teeth and bitching about it, Mirengoff ought to be thrilled.  A lot of these people didn't eat, sleep and breathe politics like the rest of us have for years, sometimes decades for us, and some never will.  I'd rather have the extra people on board and work on polish and savvy than drive them off by sneering at them like the GOP leadership in DC and comparing them to human refuse like Kos.  We wouldn't be doing what we're doing nationally without them here, and conservatives who are supporting Castle and grinding their teeth over O'Donnell's strong showing and tea party/grassroots support need to keep that in mind.

1 This may be the most sane post I've seen on this issue. At this point, I'm not sure who is the better choice in Delaware but whoever the primary voters in Delaware nominate I'll support.

2 Quit your whining...I live in California the land of C.F.O.G.P (Cluster Fuck Of Galactic Proportions)

I'd trade either one of those two for our candidates...Sigh.

Well said DPUD.  Main takeaway:  People still read Powerline?  Who knew?  Those guys jumped the shark at least 3 years ago.  They're establishment to the core and part of the problem, not the solution.

4 Excellent take on this, DPUD. I believe that you are correct, in that some (not all, but a good percentage) tea partiers are political novices, and they will make the mistakes that novices make. But where these folks differ from the KOS crowd is that tea partiers are willing, and able, to think for themselves. It is enough for the KOS crowd to read the latest bumper sticker, or listen to the latest sound bite and they are follow lemming-like along their primrose path. It is my humble opinion that the GOP leadership needs to take these tea partiers more seriously, and actually listen to what they have to say (and even implement their ideas) , rather than discount them as novices who don't seem to understand the nuances of Washington party politics. The biggest mistake the GOP leadership is making right now is acting like elitists, or like parents dealing with a stubborn child.

The message from all these political 'novices' is that they want the Government to get the fuck out of their lives.  This is the problem with hoping that the GOP leadership responds appropriately, as they're all about perpetuation of their political power.  Actually shrinking the influence of government is anathema to them as it would mean a reduction in their power.

The GOP establishment will fight the grassroots tooth and nail until they're swept aside.  There is no hope of redemption for the permanent political class.

6 O'Donnell is an unethical, lying hack.  Like Hannity, minus all the brain power, and that is saying something.  Not that it matters in DC, but not only would I never vote for her, but I would never vote for a GOPer endorsing her, including Palin or DeMint should they ever decide to run.

She's a disaster.

7 I'd rather have a sister in a whorehouse than a brother who was on the RNC.  Screw em!

8 This is the problem with hoping that the GOP leadership responds appropriately, as they're all about perpetuation of their political power.

And that's how they put it, but people don't get really excited about giving the GOP leadership any power. Boehner wants us to support him as he's already giving up position in future bargaining on tax cuts.
Republicans have lost so many people because they were basically squishy Dems under Bush. "Better than the Dems" hasn't played for 3 elections.
They don't appear to have learned any lesson either. We saw that in Alaska.

As for mistakes, do our political betters do any better? How many "electable" candidates have actually won an election?

Kerry was "electable" right? So was McCain.
As we are seeing in Pennsylvania, the conservative can beat the squishy Republican, yet our political betters told us back in 06 that good old reliable Arlen was much better than that wingnut Toomey.

I'm not from Delaware, so it's not really my business, but...
Why should voters in Delaware vote for the squishy Republican who will vote like a Dem instead of the real Dem?
How is Castle going to differentiate himself? "I want most of what my opponent wants, just less of it!".
We get to see Minitru going after the woman the way they went after Hillary and Sarah Palin, that should be worth about 5 points all by itself as wymyn get all upset all over again.
The country is sick of the way the Dems have been screwing over and badmouthing America while running roughshod over laws. Even liberal people in Delaware have to be upset with what's going on. Chicago machine politics doesn't play well anywhere but in a handful of big cities.
And who wouldn't want someone in the Senate gumming up the works? I'm a little depressed Ron Paul isn't in the Senate. That body needs someone like him.

The Powerline guys are a little too "George Will Conservative" for my taste, but I've got to defend Mirengoff on one point:

When he talked about people on our side not being as astute as Kos, he was specifically referring to "leaders" like Riehl and Levin, not Joe Sixpack standing in the crowd at a Tea Party rally in Omaha.  I get his point.  If you're going to climb up on the podium and scream "I AM SPARTACUS!  FOLLOW ME!", then you should probably not act like a thin-skinned pussy when someone points out the times when you misrepresent the facts and make wild leaps of illogic.

10 Well this is interesting.
The Kucinich Privilege Resolution
Quote

Agreed to refer H. Res. 1258, impeaching George W. Bush, President of the United States, of high crimes and misdemeanors, to the Committee on the Judiciary by a yea-and-nay vote of 251 yeas to 166 nays, Roll No. 401.

Voting yes? Mike Castle, (R, DE).

Yay! He obviously is exactly the type of Republican we need.
It's an imperative.
Saw it at Gateway Pundit

BWAHAHA

So ...Castle/Pelosi 2012?

/sarc

LOL.

...O'Donnell! Fuck! Yeah! (sung to the tune ...)

Fire.Them.All.

...and then fire their replacements in the next election.

...lather/rinse/repeat.

It's time to get ALL these elitist fucks out of office. Back to their exclusive ass little compounds. We need an end to the political class. Period. GOP/Democrat ...fuck 'em all. No.More.Job.Security.

The magic will be in ...turnover.

For ...hmm ...3-to-6 or so election cycles should do it.

12 Slightly O/T, but I was in a fast-food joint that subjects its customers to MSNBC, and some talking head was blathering on about the DE primary and the same tired "conservative wing vs. moderate wing of the GOP" discussion that the left loves. I stopped paying a lot of attention after I figured out the topic of discussion, but the one thing I did hear was one of the heads say, "This is what happens when the GOP can't pick its candidates." The sheer idiocy of that comment proved once again why I don't watch MSNBC (as if Olby weren't enough).

15  When we talk about chi pink dazzle flat irona, we should know very well that we are mentioning those ceramic chi flat iron that consider themselves as one of the dominating ones in international styling market. There are many models of chi flat iron for sale but the most dominating amongst them are.
