Nuclear War

Does this make anyone else uncomfortable?

After Warsaw and Washington announced the agreement on the deal last week, top Russian Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn warned that Poland is risking attack, and possibly a nuclear one, by deploying the American missile defense system, Russia's Interfax news agency reported.

Did a 'top Russian general' just threaten nuclear war? Just now? Holy fucking shit.

Somebody had better fucking blink really soon.  Post-apocalyptic shit is awesome for movies and video games but I think I'd rather my daughter grow up in a world without savage zombie-mutants.

This is getting scary. His attack had obviously been planned for a long time. We would have trouble getting hundreds of armored vehicles and all the infantry, planes and support stuff rolling on so little notice. Heck, we probably couldn't do it all as fast as they did.

They were ready, so what are their plans now? They had to know that attacking Georgia like that and the subsequent jerking us around was going to cause problems, so what's next? I find it hard to believe that he would have started all this ruckus for just Georgia, he obviously had a plan. Add in the blatant propaganda on Russian TV, and you have what looks like a serious, coordinated effort for something. And Georgia alone just doesn't seem worth the trouble, especially since Putin's talked about how much he misses the USSR.

Now, I have wonder if they're going to ratchet up the pressure and cause problems and then, their "natural ally and good friend", China, won't have to step in to help curb this obvious overreach and blatant attempt by the United States and her stooge countries in Europe against the peace-loving Russians and come to the aid of the Ossetians.

Intellesting times indeed.

Georgia first - it is all about the oil, specifically the two pipelines BP has running through it from Azerbaijan.  If the Sovi...er, Russia reabsorbs Georgia, all that Azeri oil goes only where the Soviet...damn, there I go again, Russians say it goes.

Now Poland - that is some truly scary shit.  The Soviets (fuck it; I'll call them what they really are) miss getting the (East) German appliances for free, and Poland, as usual, is in the way.  Oh, and they still want good, ice-free access to the Atlantic.

Does Costco sell bulk gas masks and protective suits?  I think I'll pick a few up next time I need some canned corn.  I wonder if I can build a fallout shelter in my backyard.  In the mean time, I'll be crapping my pants at the thought of nuclear war.
