MMR Research Faked

Becoming a parent can turn even the most rational person irrational.  In my entire life, no other event has more regularly caused irrational fears and throughts to be taken seriously than that.  So, when my daughter turned one and received her MMR shot, I worried.

Of course, I knew that the research was basically bullshit and that a tie between a vaccine and an extremely complicated mental disorder was counter-intuitive* the fear was still there.  I found myself watching her and wondering if she was different.  If there were any symptoms.

Turns out the study that raised that ugly fear was completely fabricated by a man that should be executed for manslaughter.

Why manslaughter?  Well, at least two deaths in England can be laid directly at his feet and I'm sure a lot more than that are attributable to his deranged actions.  Like I said, I'm not a person that is prone to irrational thoughts (they tend to be dismissed out of hand instantly) so I can only imagine what effects this study would have on more emotional/less logic-based people.

So, good.  There is no tie.

And, Andrew Wakefield?  Stay out of Milwaukee, WI because I owe you the physical equivalent of worrying that my daughter's brain has been damaged by a vaccine.  I'm pretty sure the conversion ratio doesn't bode well for your survival chances.

* - Some day I'll expound on my hatred for the modern age's misguided belief that counter-intuitive things are true all the time.  It is a tool of the liberal mindset to be excited when you say "you'd think that, but actually..."

In reality, almost everything that happens is intuitive on some level and things that aren't should be given far more scrutiny because they're probably bullshit.

1 but but but...Jenny McCarthy sez it's true so it must be so!

There are plenty of things we have to worry about with vaccinating the kiddos* due to other health stuff, it was so kind of Wakefield to add false crap on top of that.

*Yes, we still vaccinate despite the other worries.  I consider it part of living among people that we do what we can to keep everyone safe.

Vaccination is one of the rare times I believe the state should have the power to compell behavior in the population because the positive effect is so OVERWHELMINGLY necessary and requires mandatory, 100% cooperation.

What a douchebag?  What really gets me is trying to figure out his motivation... was it just for fame?  Fuck him.

I used to worry about vaccines also (fixit jr developed a siezure disorder at about 18 months old), but I realized that even if they were the cause of his problem, that nothing could be done to change things. And the need for the vaccines far outway any reason not to get them, other than a severe allergy to them. Fixit jr is fine now, and might even be able to discontinue his meds this summer.

5 If I had a guess, I'd say that he started out with a belief, and when the science didn't match up to the belief, he made it match up.

I'm mixed on the compulsion thing.  We have to spread out my daughter's shots so as to avoid giving multiple shots that might cause a reaction at the same time.  She still gets all her vaccinations, but she might get this or that one one three months later or not combined with what normally would be shot up with it.  The state meddles any more with it, it will make it very difficult.  As it is, we had to sit down and figure out exactly what was going to be given when to meet the state requirements for enrolling our kids in school - but if we said that we don't believe in vaccination, we could have done whatever we wanted.  It would have been easier for us to make up our own willy-nilly schedule and tell the school we don't believe in vaccines, but I like being able to be self-righteous in the face of moonbattery.

My wife did her research and demanded no "cocktails", or whatever you clal it when you get two or three different vaccinations at once, for our daughter's booster shots, since she was as worried as most about the "autism" thing.

But we still got all the shots she needed. And, so far, she is fine.

I don't think they should be able to kick your door in and make sure you get a vaccination if there are complicating health concerns but, as a general rule, people should be forced to have effective, commonly available vaccines on a schedule that is consistent with the health of the patient.

"Not believing in vaccines" is not good enough for me.  We had several Rubella outbreaks in the Milwaukee area (AT A DAYCARE MY DAUGHTER VISITED BEFORE WE PICKED ONE) because of backwards douchebags that weren't vaccinated and visited a foreign country.

Fuckers.
