McCain to name VP this week?

Yes he will, according to Bob Novak:

Sources close to Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign are suggesting he will reveal the name of his vice presidential selection this week while Sen. Barack Obama is getting the headlines on his foreign trip. The name of McCain's running mate has not been disclosed, but Mitt Romney has led the speculation recently.

I'm excited, even though my gut is telling me this is going to be a huge disappointment.

Update: In case you were interested, here are my favorite potential VPs: Gov. Sarah Palin (Ak.), Gov. Mark Sanford (S.C.) if he cleans up his act, Sen. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Rep. Eric Cantor (Va.), and (shrug) Gov. Mitt Romney.

While trying to make that list, I found it was hard to find any VP I would fully and enthusiastically support apart from Palin.  That's depressing.

If McCain chooses a mavericky VP, I'm going to spend the next four years or so doing everything I can to get Gov. Palin to run in 2012.

3 So help me if it's Huckabee, I'll secede.

4 Malor, if McCain wants PA and OH per your strategery, Romney is the about the last choice you want.  Palin would be near top of the list.  PA is one of the biggest pro-2nd states, possibly the largest concentration of hunters in America(and Palin would fit right in), very pro-life(she's very pro-life, he's been a flip-flopper), his CEO image wouldn't play well with the blue-collar types in this state(which is a lot people in PA).  I think they'd love her in PA.

5 If McCain were smart, he'd pick Palin and then let her get some conservative-friendly "concessions" from him.   That way he could let go of some of the Maverick baggage that's destroying his fundraising and organization on some issues that don't really matter to the independents he's courting, but do matter to some of the different base voters.

I'm available as well.  I probably make as much sense as whoever he's gonna choose.  If chosen for VP, I promise to make Bill Clinton's White House debauchery look like amateur hour.

For starters, I'll spend the first year of my term in an undisclosed location with the entire staff from Las Vegas' Spearmint Rhino stripper club.  The second year I'll rest; the thrid year, I'll be seeking medical attention for STDs and planning for a whopper of a year four.

7 If McCain were smart,

I think I see the flaw in your suggestion.

8 Yes, I almost put (and we know he isn't, but on the off-chance his handlers could talk sense into him).

Here’s the theme song when Sarah Palin makes her Veep center stage appearance at the Republican National Convention later this summer:

Oh, and yes it IS gonna be Palin. McCain’s already got this new ad up which essentially announces Palin as his pick (without ever having to mention her name).

It’s even got the McCain/Palin campaign slogan vs. Obama: “Don’t hope for new energy, vote for it.” –-
