It seems the 2012 political season has already started

Newsweek just asked (PDF) registered Republicans who they would like to run in 2012 if John McCain doesn't win in November.  The results?

Mitt Romney 30%
Mike Huckabee 26%
Sarah Palin 20%

I will just note that there was no similar question for Democrats.  They seem certain their Messiah will win.

Also, Mitt Romney and the Huckster in the 1 and 2 slots?  Are these people serious?

Big mistake..........there won't be a Republican primary in 2012 if the Most revered Dear Leader Barack Hussein Obama wins on 11/4!!!!!!

4 Like there will be an election in 2012 after THE ONE takes over next year. Look for the Reichstag to burn down any day now.

5 Unfortunalty, the 2004 Presidential election will be the last known "free and fair' election in this country's history. If O wins, and that is a big IF... we can look to recent Russian or Venezuelan elections for our future. Like poisoned opponents or 'accidental' car bombings courtesy of the Department of Political Opposition Extermination run by Billy Ayers.

6 i never thought id say this, but im starting to hate democrates. I loathe them. All integrity and ethics that the democratic party had are gone now. All they want is control. Im startnig to fear for our democracy and freedoms.

They say the economy is in bad shape!

Look at what these idiot pollsters make.

Look at the money the moonbats have giving "O" Dumbo to waste. His colums at his speech. What a joke.

I'll go for a Palin /Mit in 2012. Keep Huck at the pulpit.

And by the way. There are enough true Americans that stand for freedom in this country to bring the "O" Dumbo down in 2012 if he wins.

In the scenereo discussed:

Romney will be broke.

Huck will run as "God's candidate" against The One, only to be shut down by PC, "hate speech" codes, "fairness doctrines," and normal Mugabe-esque thuggery.

And then there's Palin.  Cuda has a streak in her I truly admire.  She is not caught up in political life. My hope for her if Hussein wins: She just stays packed up, heads back north, finishes out her term as governor, and then retires to a far-off fishing business.   She'll think, "What a ride!" and then go back to her faith, family, finances, and fun.

Normally I might say that is "selfish" of a person, but given the American people's choice to abandon the American Dream and their personal rejection of her, my thought would be that she of all people has EARNED the right to that sort of thing. Another relatively young politician seeking to ascend to the Vice Presidency, Theodore Roosevelt, made the point, "It's not the fight in the man, it's the man in the fight."  It took quite a man to step into the current fight.  And in this case, that man was a woman, and the people of this country won't deserve her.

9 Who's Christopher Davis and why do I care that he's done with us "blowhards?"

10 It's weighted to census data for the population.  Not previous turnout, and not registration data.  No attempt at all to make the survey population reflect the voting population.

We can all safely ignore this poll.

11 I'm Christopher Davis. We sure needed another poll. You light up my life.

12 Should have blamed Hot Air for the linking. i have no quarrel with you; nobody really wants to think about 2012 politics.

13 The Huckster and Mitt are yesterdays news .My advice to both of them is just go away.Like Rush said fri. if McCain wins or looses we will have to start to rebuild this party and Gov. Palin will be part of it.There is no one in D.C. that will be part of the new Rep. party. No more will we the people listen to the crap coming out of the elites in D.C..This will be the party of conservatives not the so called big tent that has destory the base.

15 Hey Katie, I'm beginning to feel the same, though I fight it. I"m a Rep. Elections inspector and I almost called in sick because I know that if one of the people on the Dem side says something stupid like she always does about how great Obama is and how awful Bush was and how we need to get out of Iraq, I'll punch her out and be carted off to jail. I'll be smiling though.

A Palin / Romney ticket would be a very strong ticket if the Hollow Man has a tough first term or in effect a third Bush Term.

Palin is very charismatic and brings more to the ticket than Huckabee, who really only appeals to social conservatives.  Palin brings socons and fiscal conservatives along with libertarians.

Romney brings money, but more important, Romney is the darling of the Boston to DC corridor country club Republicans.  This ticket would be in effect rebuilding the big tent that Reagan helped to create.

Palin will be back and not with any foolish handlers.  She will be able put together her platform and Mitt will by dynamite selling it.

17 This is a tough one. I would go with Romney/Steele.

If the economic turmoil persists through Obama's first term, I could certainly see a strong chance for a conservative take over.  Otherwise, I think a lot of eligible conservative candidates will sit 2012 out, waiting for 2016.

If I were to pick my conservative ticket for 2012, it would Romney/Petreaus in`12.

That is awesome! Hollow Man! I love it! (Your tagging the O! with that--the movie, not so much.)

20 Mitt endorsed the stinking bailout. He's DONE, unless the idiots who pushed him this time around get their way. I actually think Huck will do well next time. Will he win? I really don't know. Palin has not totally killed her chances at winning a GOP primary, quite the opposite, but I don't think she can win a national election (although, with what the ONE may do, if we still have elections, folks'll be pretty fired up about the Dems by then, I hope). The drive-by media onslaught that probably resulted in a lot of shouted expletives by Republicans and smashed televisions cooked her, and although she did as well as any human being could have hoped to do, she also didn't look ready in interviews. Huck would get my vote.

Wrong Question!

Let's ask CONSERVATIVES their preference.

22 The biggest problem will be democrats  turning the Federal government into one big political machine.  Money pouring to this and  that favored group with the understanding that Republicans will end the gravy train.  Those of you talking about not having elections or reichstag fires need to understand that reality is not as sinister as it appears, but it sure as hell is more dangerous.  Enabled by a media which overturned every stone for the past 8 years, there will be very little to check the trillions of dollars that will be funneled into the creation of a Democrat machine with one purpose, power. But do not lose heart.
