Is Barack the Better Choice?

Dan Riehl makes a good point here, and makes me question whether we should hope for the Hildebeest or Obama to face in the general election.  Obama sounds excellent the first time you hear him, objectively speaking, until you've heard him more than once...he gets old and repetitive very quickly.  He's an empty suit, which we've always known, but he's a very charismatic and likeable empty suit, I'm starting to wonder, could he fall victim to a similar principle at work here?

If Obama doesn't have anything beyond this same Hope-Change-End of Partisanship-Yes We Can! boilerplate crap, are people going to grow sick of his shit too, as likeable and charismatic as he is?

I think its possible, look at Rudy Giuliani, he fell into a similar trap, where everything he said became 9/11 or we did (add policy here) in New York, even a large number of solid Rudy fans got tired of it and abandoned him.  Certainly, Obama is more likeable than Rudy, but the guy ain't Jesus, as much as his devotees seem to think.

So the question becomes, how much of the electorate gets locked into Obama's cult of personality, and how much becomes sick of his shit?  Or does Obama have more than this, and he's surviving on the shallow boilerplate now because its harder for Hillary to attack?

If he doesn't have anything beyond this, McCain might not be destroyed by the guy as badly as conventional wisdom seems to dictate, hell he might even win.  Whether you want McCain to win or not, we have to hope for a weak Democrat candidate, for the simple reason that we don't want to have them get a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, and we need to gain back some seats in the House, we don't need to be on the receiving end of a Reagan/1994 type deluge.
