MSNBC probably market tested this. It's a way to get a lot of ink and at the same time solidify their natural base. And their base is dead end lefties mired in hate and unable/unwilling to listen to anyone outside their small echo chamber. Hell, they've even got me talking about them. It's almost diabolical.
