Flying Saucers Now In Production

Too awesome!

*Welcome, fellow AoS morons! Just got my 10,000 visit!  Feel free to look around.

Its called the M200G Volantor, designed by Dr. Paul Moller.  The craft hovers about three meters off the ground, and glides above the surface at about 50 MPH.  Depending on demand, it could start at around a bit over 44,000 pounds which is about $90,000.  It is apparently great for offroad fun, as it glides over most obstacles with ease.  It relies on a an air cushion caused by the engines.

If you can afford the hefty price tag, this would be super sweet.

2 Guess he decided to go with a base hit, rather than a home run. I've mentioned on previous flying car threads that I talked with this company back in the 80's, when they were "only a few years" from going into production with their 4-turbine flying car design. At least they're going into production with something.

3 Thanks Tushar!

geoff, I'll say this for him.  A base hit is better than no hit at all.

It's tethered to the crane.  When do we see it speeding over "rocks, swampland, fences or log infested waterways"?

It relies on a an air cushion caused by the engines.

I think it's a split action.  Since the horizontal and virtical effect are created by the fans, then it uses a combination of Variable Wing action, and ground effect, that's why it is meant only for a limited height.

I think it was yeager, writing about the f-16, (in his biography) said that you experience ground effect as low as 2K feet.  Ground effect was something he mentioned a bunch of times in his bio.

12 2000 feet? No way. Ground effect in aircraft takes place within approximately a wing-span or two from the ground.
