Everything sucks and we're all going to die

That just about sums things up.

Stay-at-home-mom Heather Hammack grapples with tough decisions daily about how to spend her family's dwindling income in the face of rising food costs. One day, she priced strawberries at $1.75. The next day, they were $2.28.

"I could cry," she responds when asked how things are.

God, it's like The Grapes of Wrath all over again. Except with strawberries.

1 Hammack is 24, with a 5 year old child (meaning she got knocked up at 18-19-ish), living unmarried to the father in rural WV.  Not to be a dick, but that's a recipe for disaster regardless of the broader economy.

2 You know, this whole OMG DEPRESSION!!!! thing is really pissing me off.  No, the economy isn't going gangbusters but we are not all going to die.  If I recall the default rate on mortgages is what?  5%?  Less?  Something like that.  Yet that means that the whole industry is going to collapse.  Sheesh.  Tiny bit of perspective would be nice.

This is an idiotic news story, but to be fair, it's not simply the rate of foreclosures.  It's also the amount of decline involved with them (upwards of 50% in the hardest hit areas at this point).

I'm not a doomsayer by any means, but the economy is in a bit of a pickle at the moment, and will likely remain that way for some time to come.

4 I bet her life would be better if we elected Obama.  C'mon guys, let's help her out!

5 Don't like the price of strawberries? Grow your own. That's what I'm attempting to do this year. And with the salmonella scare this year with tomatoes, I'm trying to grow those this year, too.

Yeah, the economy sucks this year. But there are ways around it. With me being out of work, hubby and I are finding ways to get around it instead of whining about it.

My favorite part? (Well, beside the single mother living in rural WV, a sure path to fame and fortune in America before BusHitler's reign)

There are so many things you have to do to survive now," says Larue Lawson of Forest Park, Ill. "It used to be just clothes on your back, food on the table and a roof over your head. Now, it's everything. ...snip... Lawson, mind you, is all of 16 years old       Leah, poor Larue, life is so tough when you're 16 and nobody understands!!!!   If Obama! is elected expect to hear how great everything is when unemployment is at 10%, taxes are through the roof, gas is $8/gal and there's a radioactive, smoking hole where Tel Aviv used to be.

This story fits in well (H/T Drudge),

Headline:

Many Americans still traveling despite economy

Don't they know we're all just going to California to escape the Dust Bowl that America is going to become from Global Worming?
