Desktop > Laptop

Got a new desktop, haven't had a desktop in I think eight or nine years.  Dear God this is a million times better than a fucking laptop.  Fuck large laptops, I'll use mine for backup until it dies, then replace it with a small laptop or netbook for on the go.

I also got rid of my TV, fuck TV's too (unless you're using them for movies or serious console gaming, and it's gotta be pretty damn big), my new desktop has a nice big screen and a TV tuner if I ever get cable again.  Got a nice set of speakers for it too, I'm blaring my good sized and ever growing collection of 80's mp3s on it right now.  This thing is awesome, I don't have to wait for it to do anything.

1 80s mp3s? Noooooooooooooooooooooo.
Hair Bands and overproduced schlock. After drinking my way through the 70s disco nightmare, I'd hoped the 80s would offer some relief...I just had to buy bigger bottles.

2 Born in the 80s, and pretty much listened to 50s-early 90s stuff growing up, but yeah, got a real soft spot for cheesy 80s music.  How bad a soft spot?  Kajagoogoo bad.

When I did my year-long stint working at a company in CA, I was reintroduced to the virtues of desktops and mongo screens. It felt so luxurious after using laptops exclusively for more than 10 years. So now I have my own, as well as a couple of laptops. Because I do work at a local university as well as in Boston, I have to keep one of the laptops as my primary system. But if I didn't travel around so much, I'd definitely stick to a desktop.

Costco has me drooling with <a href="http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11531642&search=computers0517&Sp=S&Mo=15&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&N=5000043&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=computers0517&Ntt=computers0517&ec=1&No=0&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1">this amazingly cheap little system</a>, though I'd rather have XP64 on it.

<i>Kajagoogoo bad.</i>

Hush hush.

5 I had a big stupid 17" laptop and now I've got this AWESOME HP 13" touchscreen/convertible and I setup my desktop as a remote server so I can do all my work on that.  The laptop is only for when I have to be away from the real computer.

I really love my touchscreen laptop.  It can run most any game/program I want, remotes perfectly, is great for writing notes with the stylus but fuck laptops (or iPads) as a computer "replacement."  Nothing can replace a real computer.

6 The giant 17" laptop was a gift, and we all know you don't look a gift horse in the mouth, but the damn thing is bulky, it's a pain in the ass to lug around, so it's not great for on the go, it gets hot and wants to overheat when you do anything graphics intensive, its an attempt at being two different things and failed miserably at both.

It always sucks when your boss is younger than you.

(On the other hand, congrats on not being born during The Ugliest Decade EVAR.)

9 Perry?  I'm not in Perry, not even close.

10 The other good thing about desktops - and this is very important to the moron lifestyle - it is much easier to spill your booze onto a laptop and wreck it. I speak form experience.

I cried.

11 I have my dinky 15" laptop hooked up to a 20"external monitor and usually do the "extended desktop" thing.  Throw things like twitter or IM on the little monitor.  And of course, usb keyboard and real mouse.  So it's kinda like a desktop except a little suckier, but I can take it places if I want.

I'm sorta torn on the whole laptop-vs-desktop thing.  If I went for a desktop I'd have to make sure I had a dual head vid card, or a second vid card or whatever the hell you need now to have two monitors.  That said, desktops are usually more bang for your buck and are more easily upgradable/repairable.

12 >Listening to Laura Branigan now.

Trying to imagine DPUD singing "Gloria, Gloria, I think they got your number, Gloria"!  I can't do it without laughing.

Personally, I'm an 80's hair band junkie so give me Def Leppard and White Snake and Night Ranger any day.

13 We have a laptop and PC but with two kids it's not enough. I guess it will be a laptop to help with homework and projects.

14 CB, any of the morons who have actually met me are probably ROFLMAOing right now.

15 Why yes, we are.  Even more so by picturing you in the shirt you were wearing the first time we met.
