Delorean To Make A Comeback

You remember the Delorean, right?  Most people recognize the stainless steel, gull-wing doored car from the movie Back To The Future.  It has a big cult following.  So much so, that a company that restores the car is looking to build limited release Deloreans, around 20 a year.  The Deloreans made in the 80's sell for about $25K now, as much as they sold for when they first came out.  I'm not sure if they'll be using Delorean's old repair stock, parts built in-house, or if they'll be using a mix of parts.

Its interesting, and I hope the concept of bringing back old cars becomes a trend, so many cars that are on the road today are soulless hunks of ugly metal or plastic.  I know the Delorean is hated by many, but I'm sure there are cars you see on the road and wax nostalgic, hoping that someday we can see that kind of rolling artwork on the American road again.

1 I'm surprised there aren't more cars out there with the pure, unpainted stainless steel look.  Personally, I'd love to have a sleek sports-car entirely in bright, shiny chrome :-)

2 Yeah, I'm kinda surprised by that too.  The handful of Deloreans that I've seen in real life and pictures, I've never seen one with rust issues.  The only thing I can think of is that its heavier than the plastic that gets used now.

3 "Twenty a year?!" Impossible. Even Ferrari, Lamborghini, and the rest of the "boutique" premium sports car makers couldn't survive on that volume...even at a couple of million a copy. I doubt this is possible.
