Dear Liberals: Trivia Time*

Explain to me how it is an environmental disaster to drill for oil on a few thousand acres of Alaska while it is an environmental delight to build thousands of square miles of solar panelling all over the continental United States.

Bonus:  Explain why a massive shift in albedo in solar-panelled areas would be superior to drilling in arctic regions.

* - I suppose this is just a rhetorical device to invalidate the retarded "environmental damage" argument used to preclude drilling in ANWR.

Obviously, there are only two explanations to oppose drilling:  The terrifying specter of Global Warmenizing or a socialist agenda that feels that America is Just. Too. Prosperous. thankyouverymuch.

1 It depends on where the couple of thousand square miles is.  Have you ever been to Kansas?

ANWAR is pristine?  So are the La Brea tar pits.

But only because they are "natural".  If the La Brea tar pits were man-made, they would be the largest superfund site in America.

If the barren wasteland that is ANWAR was man-made, it would be decried as the world's most horrible example of Gia-raping "ecocide."

Four legs good, two legs bad.

3 Hell, by that definition, Death Valley is "pristine".  Woo-woo.

I had a prof in one of my earliest optics courses talk about the law of unintended consequences if we were to try to get all of our energy from the sun.  He validated your point, Moron Pundit, in that the amount of extra energy has to go somewhere and that the albedo as a function of wavelength would get all hinky.  (I'm using toned-down language)  Of course, further study into atmospheric transmission functions, spectral reflectivity/absorption, and all that jazz doesn't excite me in the least so I just leave it at that.

I refer to the detractors from all walks as the SLC (Self-Loathing Crowd).

Alice, I have been to Kansas at least a dozen times.  I have also, oddly enough, read about a dozen books while in Kansas.

Weird.
