Chocolate Jesus to be Resurrected for All Saints Day

From the utterly tedious and predictable swipe at Catholicism files...remember Chocolate Jesus

Well, he's going to rise again, this time in a display in Chelsea.  Invitations are going out soon and they will be,

...featuring a "scratch n' sniff" on the breasts of a likeness of the Virgin Mary.

Here's the stock, "this is offensive" statement,

"It sounds pretty sick to me," said John Horvat, a spokesman for the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property. "Obviously this man has an agenda. He's targeting very revered religious figures."

and of course, the stock, "its been misinterpreted/you just don't get the artists intent" statement,

"I see it as basically a show about healing," Ronald Sosinski said. "The sculptures are extremely traditional when you see them in their use of material. When you first see them they look like bronzes."

Huh?  About healing?  Is that like the art worlds version of "Its satire, wingnuts!"?  If you're gonna put something obnoxious up, man up nancy, say it and own up to the fact you just want to stir up trouble.

Here's the artists defense,

"Depictions of Jesus in plastic or wood are what I find offensive," he said. "With my work, you don't want it to melt, so you have to be more aware of the time you have with it. It's more alive."

Hmm....

Cosimo Cavallaro, the Canadian-born artist, did not want to reveal where the sculpture has been stored because of threats, said it had to be repaired after mice gnawed at its fingers, toes, and nose.

Yeah, you really showed awareness of it as it was getting chewed up in some warehouse by rodents...yes I get why he put it there, but if he was really concerned about it as he says he is, he would have made damn sure the thing wouldn't have been getting chewed up by vermin.  I'm not annoyed by the stupid display as much as I am the BS he and the people around him are slinging in copious quantity in order to avoid admitting this was just an exercise in trashing holy symbols in order to stir things up.

I know some people might find this stuff outrageoustm! but I'm past it, this sort of "daring swipe" at Christianity has become so cliche that I'm just unfazed by it.  Its the art world's equivalent of banging a sippy cup on a hi-chair and throwing a tantrum for attention.

Its not daring, if Catholics were rioting in the streets every time someone dessecrated a holy image and beheading critics in front of handi-cams while shouting "God Wills It!",  these sort of swipes at the Catholic Church would be daring, but its not.  You get a few stock responses from a few Christian/Catholic groups, a few angry letters, one or two nutbar threats, and that's it.

The truth is, its analogous to the Left and the nutroots pretending they're anti-establishment, they aren't, yet they continue the charade, despite the fact you can't possibly get more establishment than demanding strong, authoritarian central authority and accepting no substitute for it.
