One of the country's most important industrial companies says the United States is not a good place to manufacture and it will continue moving its assets offshore.
The federal government is "doing everything in [its] manpower [and] capability to destroy U.S. manufacturing," says David Farr, chairman and CEO of Emerson Electric Co., in a presentation at the Baird 2009 Industrial Conference in Chicago Ill., on Nov. 11. In comments reported by Bloomberg, Farr added that companies will continue adding jobs in China and India because they are "places where people want the products and where the governments welcome you to actually do something. I am not going to hire anybody in the United States. I'm moving. They are doing everything possible to destroy jobs."
In his Powerpoint presentation available on the Emerson Electric Web site, Farr notes that the federal government is damaging prospects for U.S. economic growth with a $1.41 trillion federal deficit (10 percent of GDP); $12 trillion in government debt that will grow to $20 trillion in 10 years; a policy of printing money; a "non-targeted $800-billion stimulus"; bailouts for Wall Street and the automobile companies; the prospect for cap and trade legislation; a "government takeover" of health care to the tune of more than $1 trillion; increasing taxes and regulations; and a "lack of U.S. $ support" for manufacturing. The global stimulus "soon will fade," says Farr.
What more can I add?

The US has been pretty hostile to business for a while now. With this deathcare bullshit, however, 0bama has taken it to a whole new level.

Emerson Electric?
Umm, isn't that Ridgid tools? Umm, Home Depot?
The government issued a recall on an Emerson product that Sears sold: the Sears marketed, Emerson built, radial arm saws. The feds made the recall subject to every radial arm saw Sears sold from the 1950's or so on. Yeah. The 1950's.
The reason? - Well, radial arm saws are pretty dangerous if you aren't careful. And according to the guv'mint, the design of the guards was flawed ...or somethin'.
My first decent power saw in the mid-1970's was ...a Sears radial arm saw: one of the most versatile saw designs money could buy. Pure Yankee ingenuity.
I learned a love of woodworking - that exists to this day - on that saw. I owned two of 'em back then (one was "lost" in my divorce).
Dangerous? No shit. EVERY fuckin' power saw is fuckin' dangerous. IF you're a fucking idiot.
"More" dangerous, though?
Let me put it like this. When I decided a few short years back to reacquaint myself with my early love of woodworking, the first thing I looked for on Craigslist was ...a radial arm saw. Hey: it was what I knew.
And I bought one ...a model from ...the late 1970's; could have been one of my old saws, as far as that goes.
That's when I found out about the recall. Yeah, I took advantage of it: Emerson sent me a new table-board, and a new designed guard ...for a 40 frickin' year old saw. I know the parts they sent were around $3-400 retail cost.
That and some elbow grease made the saw like new. It looks - and works - great. Like it always did.
The new guard? Sucks. No, really. It's kind of in the way, and hides a clear view of what the blade is doing. Too complex, too.
Less dangerous? - Not really ...because any power tool, especially one with bunches of carbide teeth spinning at 3000 RPM, can seriously injure you, or kill you ...if you're an idiot.
I've wondered lately why Ridgid seemed to be withdrawing so many excellent products from the market.
I guess now I know.
We are so fucked.

Jeff: sorry, man. I was tired last night and just wanted to get this one up. I'll bring my A game next time
Joe: thanks. This thing needs to get distributed everywhere
