Are you kidding me?

No, really?

It seems to be a new Cheneyite talking point that x% of those already released from Guantanamo have "returned to the battlefield." From the evidence I've seen the claim itself is questionable. But if it's true, how is this a point in favor of Cheney and the Bush administration?
Um, well, Josh, it's because you and Obama and all of your lefty pals have been arguing that we should release all of the Gitmo prisoners since about September 12, 2001.

And Cheney and the Bush administration argued that they ought to be detained until the war that they started on 9/11 (I'm being generous here, considering the idea that they started this war in 1979 with the Iranian embassy invasion and continued with the Beirut bombing, USS Cole attack, etc.) could be brought to an end.

Oh, and since this came out just a week before the era of Hope and Change actually began, I can understand your reluctance to believe it. After all, everything that came from the government before The One officially ascended was a contemptible lie. Even when it came from your buddies in the MSM.

Yeah.

Man, they just aren't acting in good faith. Anything that promotes their agenda is perfectly okay because they're all about teh goodness.

A little evil in the pursuit of a higher good is perfectly okay.

And that's why I treat lefties the way I do. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt but as soon as I see them doing that crap, I just point and laugh. I mean I relentlessly abuse and make fun of them until they go away.

Most of my lefty friends have learned not to talk politics with me.

The conversations have all gone the same way. I state my position, they call me a name (usually ignorant or myrmidon), after I show I know much more about the deal then they do, they start to make mean spirited jokes at me.

So long ago I just started to make fun of them. I'll try to steer to toward "Bush lied" because they're so predictable it's fun.

Me: "Oh, Bush died? So, from 1997-2003 when Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Madelaine Albright, Sandy Berger, Jay Rockefeller and Nancy Pelosi were saying the exact same things, were they lying as well?"

Lefty: "Bush lied to them".

Me: "So, the governor of Texas convinced the Potus, VPotus, Sec State, NSA and members of the House and Senate intelligence committees of lies? Is that what you're saying?"

Lefty:"I didn't say that."

Me:"Well, from 97-01 Bush wasn't pres and he was saying those things."

Usually after that, they start in on the "Well, he misled..." and I abuse them even further until they have to admit that he didn't lie. That's when I laugh and say, "I'm sure you'll run back to your lefty friends and tell them you think that."

Yeah, they don't talk politics anymore which is fine by me.

It's funny, I'm reading Livy's history of Rome and I see this statement from some ambassador to Rome written sometime around 340 BC

Quote

As for the charge which moved you to declare war on us, though it is pointless to use words to refute what facts have disproved...

Bing-fucking-o. People have changed not at all in the thousands of years since we killed off the neanderthals.
