Shocka! Enviro-weenie Policies Not Popular In Enviro-weenie Strongholds

Yeah, color me shocked. And what is doubly impressive is how the folks in Seattle recently treated attempts to raise the costs of being green.

Plastic bag makers have lobbied hard to defeat the fee, outspending opponents about 15 to 1.

Adam Parmer, a spokesman for the Coalition to Stop the Seattle Bag Tax, said the results show the bag fee was "a costly, unnecessary tax" and the wrong approach to changing behavior.

"Seattle voters have made it clear that this is not the approach they want to take in protecting the environment," he said.

Supporters argue the fee would encourage more reusable bags, cut down on pollution and waste, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

"This campaign is about much more than just one decision of the voters," said Rob Gala, a spokesman for Seattle Green Bag campaign, which backed the fee. "It's really about raising the awareness of voters, and we've really accomplished that."{yeah, to the tune of getting your sissy ass kicked all over Seattle-ed.}

Also in Seattle, unpopular Mayor Greg Nickels was narrowly trailing two challengers in his bid for a third term. Sierra Club activist Mike McGinn has a slim lead with 27 percent of the vote. Cell phone executive Joe Mallahan has 26 percent, while Nickels has 25 percent. The top two finishers will advance to the November Election.

Nickels, while prominent nationally for his initiatives to make the city greener, has been dogged locally by criticism of a sometimes heavy-handed style and of the city's {shitty-ed.} response to a December snowstorm that paralyzed Seattle for nearly two weeks.

I may have played around with this article just a bit.

What a shock that green intiatives are not very popular when people have to face up to the costs of them.

Protective spouse FAIL

Some people shouldn't live anywhere near the wilderness.  Especially a guy who locks himself in another room while his wife is being mauled by a bear.

If he and his wife had been properly armed, I wonder what the outcome would have been.  As it stands, the rampaging bear is still on the loose.

Yawn. More Astroturfing And Rent-A-Mob Bullshit From Team Obama

Seriously, this shit is starting to get fucking old. This time, it's in Michigan.

Here is a statement from some Michigan Reporter on the astroturfing,

Several readers have criticized the Citizen Patriot's coverage of last week's health care rally outside U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer's office, where hundreds came out — both to support and oppose — President Barack Obama's reform plan.

The chief criticism was that we failed to mention that some supporters were bused in from around the state.

It is true, and it wasn't included in the original story, but not because we were trying to slant coverage. The simple truth is it was a difficult fact to nail down.

You're reading this story today because Tuesday I was able to confirm with the Service Employees International Union that it rented vans and encouraged people to carpool to the event. About 100 SEIU members attended, from as far away as Muskegon and Detroit, said Zac Altefogt, a spokesman for SEIU Healthcare Michigan.

While covering the rally last Thursday, myself and another reporter were told by several opponents of the reform plan that supporters were bused in. But we did not see the buses that night and were unable to pose the question to the supporters' organizer before our deadline.

We left it out of the Friday story because we cannot print speculation as fact.

On Friday, we followed up with Organizing for America, which put out the call for supporters to attend the event. OFA state director Aletheia Henry assured us that her group had not bused people to the rally.

We wrote a short follow-up Saturday and thought it was resolved.

Then this week, some readers e-mailed us photos of supporters standing in front of a bus from Trinity Transportation parked several blocks away near Family Video, 1111 W. Ganson St.

My colleague followed up with Henry. We told her we understood OFA hadn't chartered the buses, but we wondered if she knew who had. She refused to answer the question and then hung up the phone.

Seems like an overreaction to a news organization simply looking for a straight answer.

I give credit to SEIU for not being ashamed to let the community know they used mass transit to get their members to the rally.
So, will that count as a job created or saved by Obama? And what about the carbon footprint for this venture?

Nice To See Russ Carnahan Reward His Most Violent Supporters

Look at who he hired to keep his foot from getting stuck in his mouth.

U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan announced Tuesday that he has hired Sara Howard as his new St. Louis-based director of communications for his congressional operation — a choice that rekindles her old political ties with the Carnahan family.

Since 2000, Sara Howard has built a long political resume. She served as communications director for former U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton, D-Minn., and was the national spokeswoman in 2004 for America Coming Together, a massive independent (and pro-Democratic) effort to register voters around the country. Howard also has been the national media relations chief for the Service Employees International Union, and was among the key operatives in labor’s successful 2006 statewide campaign to win voter approval of Proposition B, which increased Missouri’s minimum wage.

Golly Gee, I didn't see this one happening.

The pot calls the kettle fake

*cough* George Soros *cough*

I find it laughable that an organization that claims to be a media watchdog would include clips from MSNBC while claiming that there's some sort of nefarious right wing media conspiracy to gin up outrage against Obamacare.

Well, as it turns out, this site has video proof of her stirring up shit outside the town hall. Here is Video #1

And Video #2

Javonne, you ignorant fat assed slut! Did you not realize people would videotape you trying to intimidate your opposition? You deserve all of the ridicule you can get, you fucking stupid scrunt.

Up is down, black is white...

...Wal-Mart is the new Whole Foods:

They are even talking about a boycott. And who knows? Maybe some will have to rethink shopping at Wal-Mart. Unions once attacked the retailer's labor and benefits policies, but Wal-Mart has become the nation's largest purveyor of organic products and recently espoused a position on health-care reform that is widely considered progressive.

What's wrong with this picture?

"A lot of people have been paying a premium for the Whole Foods brand for years," said Mark Rosenthal, a playwright living in Massachusetts who founded the Boycott Whole Foods group a few days ago. It has nearly 14,000 members. "A lot of people are sad to look at this corporation and see that it is just like any other, if not worse."

Um, pardon me, but what do you think the goal of a corporation actually is?

Here's a clue, you hippie dumbass: making money. I don't give a shit if the corporation also has goals about "sustainable" or "organic" this or that, they're in business to make *DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUHN* money. You know, so they can continue to open stores that have "sustainable" goals and sell "organic" crap to you and your hippie friends. Who, also, might get jobs in their stores, I might add.

Oh, who am I kidding? It's not like hippies want jobs.

Of course Iran isn't pursuing nukes

The world's nuclear weapons watchdog is hiding data on Iran's drive to obtain nuclear arms, senior Western diplomats and Israeli officials told Haaretz.
I'm sure the data they're hiding are direct orders from Ahmadinejad instructing absolutely no one to pursue nuclear weapons. Oh, wait...
The officials and diplomats said that the International Atomic Energy Agency under Director General Mohamed ElBaradei was refraining from publishing evidence obtained by its inspectors over the past few months that indicate Iran was pursuing information about weaponization efforts and a military nuclear program.
ElBaradei is the same guy who said, "We must abandon the unworkable notion that it is morally reprehensible for some countries to pursue weapons of mass destruction, yet morally acceptable for others to rely on them for security." Oh, and he's the guy who, along with Hans Blix, was in charge of the Iraqi nuclear inspections. He's repeatedly expressed that if everyone had just held off a little longer, he's certain Iraqi inspections could have been completed. It should come as no surprise that he's aiding yet another enemy of Israel and the US in its secret weaponry ambitions.

Some non-health care random thing

Some random girly stuff (since I am a chick). So apparently there was a study that says that, yup, most women are gonna take your man.

There's an interesting bit in there about how it's possible that this is the case because there's some pre-screening going on.  Or, to put it another way, some other woman decided he's not a psycho loser so yoink.  Personally, I think it's because women are jealous and catty but that's just me.

I'm fascinated by this because pretty much my only dating rule is that I don't date married people.  And by married, I mean anyone who has a partner, official or otherwise.  Someone who is casually dating is fair game but once that crosses into boyfriend/girlfriend territory then that person's completely off limits.  This isn't really altruistic on my part.  It's the recognition that anyone who cheats with you will cheat on you.  No thanks.

And, no, I didn't link this just because there's a picture of Angie.  That's a bonus.

Behold The Glories Of Socialized Medicine, Vol. 932,102,283,888,825

Yeah, don't expect an ambulance to help you when you might need one.

“I went into the bath and realised she was going to come quickly. I didn’t think I’d be able to make it out of the bath, so I phoned the maternity ward back and told them to get an ambulance out.

‘They said they were not sending an ambulance and told me I had had nine months to sort out a lift.’

That may be true, but first hand experience tells me that babies don't always arrive on schedule. Besides, any excuse to mock Socialized Medicine should not be ignored.
