St. Louis Baker Kicks So Much Ass, It's Awesome

Meet Randy McArthur.

By the way, his danishes are so good, I attack them like Ace when he spots a free range hobo.

Thanks

  • In a recent gift exchange with Great Britain's leadership, he presented an enormouse novelty bill for World War Two, "It wasn't called Give-Keep for a reason."

You know what I haven't talked about in ages? Housing stuff!

Wait! Come back! Oh c'mon I have to pretend to provide some non-shoe related content.

Todd Zywicki wrote an interesting article titled Let's Treat Borrowers Like Adults.  The title pretty much sums it up nicely.  I found a few things interesting, such as the fact that the mortgage default crisis is not only centered in a few states, it's also centered in certain areas within those states.  In other words, people took risks, the risks didn't pay off and it's causing systemic problems.

I am a bit torn about the issues of more disclosure and more restrictions on certain types of loans.  Look, there were fraudulent mortgage brokers out there, no doubt about it.  But there were also people who didn't get that their variable rates could go up as well as down.  I'm inclined to believe those who would prey on the stupid will do so no matter what.  And non-traditional mortgages are not necessarily a bad thing.  But, still, some clear language legislation would not be remiss.  I recently read some mortgage documents and finally decided to turn the paper upside down since it would be more comprehensible that way.  Of course, lawyers hate clear language, so don't expect that to happen any time soon.

I continue to be horrified by the idea that all risk must be removed from life.  If you invest, it may not pay off.  If you buy a house to flip for a higher price, you may not get it.  Interest rates may go up, the economy may go down, hell, a volcano could blow up.  Life involves risk.  The soft edges crowd is trying to get rid of all of that in every area of life.  Well.  No.  If misrepresentation actually occurred, then, yes, the homeowner should not be forced to pay the consequences.  But if someone didn't read their mortgage, then, how shall I put this politely, too bad, so sad.

Look, I don't own a home because my credit is too poor to qualify for a 30 year fixed rate mortgage and I'm not willing to gamble my house on a sub-prime mortgage.  It's not unfair or wrong or horrible that I don't own a home.  It's a consequence of my own life and my own actions.  I find it fascinating that the same coalitions who scream about how I have the right to control my own body think I'm too stupid to handle my own money.

Corruption And Jack Murtha Go Together Like Corruption And Jack Murtha

Sadly, this shithead keeps getting re-elected.

A former executive of a Pennsylvania defense firm with close ties to Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.) has agreed to plead guilty to taking bribes from a partner defense company and is cooperating in a federal investigation of Pentagon contracting, records show.

Richard Ianieri, the former president of Coherent Systems International, agreed in court filings to admit that he took $200,000 in bribes from officials at a firm the company hired as a subcontractor. The charges were filed in court Monday and in more detail yesterday afternoon by federal prosecutors in Pittsburgh. They also indicate that Ianieri has consented to pleading guilty to the Pennsylvania charges in federal court in northern Florida, where he had faced unspecified but potentially related charges.

The company that allegedly paid Ianieri the bribes, identified in court filings only as "K," closely resembles Kuchera Defense Systems, which is based in Murtha's congressional district and was a subcontractor to Coherent. Kuchera Defense Systems and its sister company, Kuchera Industries, are under federal investigation for allegations of fraud and overbilling on Defense Department contracts.

Seriously, What. The. Fuck?

Barack Obama: Polished Diplomat

Nice to see he cares about the feelings of the Russians, who tend to get a bit itchy when discussing their history.

Referring to the long history of Russia-U.S. trade stretching back more than two centuries, Obama told an audience of business people in Moscow:

“Along the way, you gave us a pretty good deal on Alaska. Thank you.”

Just waiting for Tina Fey and SNL to have a good time with this one.

Biden Set To Visit Ohio To Help Boost Poll Numbers?

Maybe.

I was trying to come up with a smart ass joke to make about this, but I can't improve upon the phrase "Biden sent to boost Obama's Poll Numbers". That is a joke in its own right.

Poshington's Worst

In a column in which she tries to make the argument that "the benighted East Coast media" was responsible for making Sarah Palin a national figure (yes, really!), everyone's least favorite "conservative" columnist talks to a few of her pals from Beltway cocktail parties:

"Let's face it, she just doesn't really want to govern, and she's doing what's best for her," said a Republican campaign strategist who has worked with Palin.

"This is a win-win," said another. "It's a win for her because she is not politically viable, and now hopefully she can make a lot of money, have balance and affect culture in a positive way. It's a win for the Republican Party because she was the female version of [George W.] Bush in some ways. She is not intellectually curious. We need and have smart, competent alternatives."

And I'm sure those "smart, competent alternatives" aren't at all a bunch of squishy moderates in the McCain mold, seeing as how the unnamed people quoted are likely, um, McCain staffers who still can't wait to shift the responsibility from the complete and utter clusterfuck they made out of the campaign onto Palin. Yeah.

Oh, and the thing about Palin being able to "make a lot of money" is a running theme throughout Parker's column. When she's not implying that Palin is a rube or that she's dishonest, Kathleen insinuates that the real motive behind all of this is that she's, well, a greedy bitch.

I'll say this: I'm not sure why Palin chose to resign.  If I happened to be one of her advisers, I might have told her not to do that.  But that's just my uninformed opinion.

Enjoy those cocktails and invites to the best parties, Kathleen.  Sure, you might not pocket any money there, but you'll get quotes for your columns.

Who's greedy now?

Union FAIL

The Stella D'Oro company makes biscuits and other baked goods.  The company was based in the Bronx.  The employee contract ended on August 14, the company tells the employees that they can't run the company profitably paying them $18-22 an hour and offer a nine week paid vacation, and of course the employees immediately go on strike

Judge orders Stella D'Oro to reinstate the employees.  They do so, and promptly announce they're closing the plant and relocating in October.  And this shit happens all the time.  Union guys, already getting good pay and benefits and all that good stuff above most of the rest of us, get greedy and overstep, and the management hands them their asses.  I of course sit here, with my ill paying non-union job, and see the union dopes wipe themselves out with their own stupidity and greed, while their dues money goes to corrupt union bosses and Democrats, all I can think is,

The amazing thing is you know, you know these retards are going to sit and gripe about those evil greedy managers and execs that screwed them out of a decent living.

A Joke

I recently asked my friends' little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, 'If you were President what would be the first thing you would do? '

She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.'

        Her parents beamed.

'Wow...what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that.. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and rake my yard, and I'll pay you $50.

Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house. '

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, ' Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?

I said, 'Welcome to the Republican Party.'

I would like to thank Michael Steele

...for keeping the media's tongue-wagging the name of Governor Sarah Palin - CONSERVATIVE! Anyone making comments, positive or negative, are keeping her name alive and well. Free publicity is still publicity, even when it borders on the Biden gaffe-tastic. Keep up the good work, y'all.

Steele should pray hard that Palin will lend her name to GOP fundraisers and candidates. Speaking of which, it looks like some Republicans are hoping she will do just that.

UPDATE: Way to tell 'em, Governor!

“We have so many people who offer advice, but I’m going to continue to be, whether some of ‘em like it or not, pretty darn independent, and not get wrapped up into a strong political machine that hasn’t been extremely successful in some ways,” she said on Fox News Channel. "I want to work, right now, for people who are going to work in office or out of office for the right things. Those principles that built up America, those who are inspired by the values of America, and will not deride or apologize for the values we hold as Americans. I’m gonna work for those people.”
I can only imagine the number of blue-blood Republican elitists, whose jaws dropped when Palin just told them essentially that they have abandoned the party platform by their words and deeds. And that they should just sit down and shut up.

Moron of the Day: The Media

Just saw this headling on the Fox News Website:

Jackson Family Attends Private Service at L.A. Cemetery: Watch Live

How the fuck am I supposed to watch a "private" ceremony?  Who knew the death of a bizarre, probably deranged musician would be more important than a possible revolution in Iran or the arrest of the Honduran President or North Korea launching missiles on the Fourth of July.

Its times like these when I wish the whole damned system would just collapse so I could live Mad Max style and people would start caring about important things again.

On the other hand, it is a testament to the greatness of our wealth and productivity and safety that we have the luxury to care about some weirdo's funeral.

In closing, fuckity fuckity fuck.  Motherfuck, titsandass.

More Conservative All The Time

Instapundit is needlessly confused:

“Despite the results of the 2008 presidential election, Americans, by a 2-to-1 margin, say their political views in recent years have become more conservative rather than more liberal, 39% to 18%, with 42% saying they have not changed. While independents and Democrats most often say their views haven’t changed, more members of all three major partisan groups indicate that their views have shifted to the right rather than to the left.” Hmm. Can this be true?

Of course it's true.  Everyone knows that people become more conservative as they get older.  Maybe not everyone but I can easily see a two to one margin.  This doesn't mean that the country is getting more conservative overall, just that people move to the right as they accumulate life experiences and the utopian promises and platitudes of the left run against the cold rejection of reality.

Remember, there are millions of young people that are already liberal because of youth and indoctrination coming along behind any increasingly conservative group of adults.

A Trip To The Hope And Change Clinics May Not Be A Sure Thing

If this story is true (warning: TNR link)

Clinton pollster Stan Greenberg highlights some of the problems O-Care is facing and could face. This is the money shot, if you ask me.

It may surprise you that Obama has already lost seniors, according to our current survey–only one-third approve of his plan. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see there isn’t much in it for them. There is already talk of carving out major savings from Medicare and, unlike during Clinton’s battle, no offer of a new drug benefit. Clearly, they need to see health care gains for themselves too {and Obama's "Die Early to Save The Country" Plan probably doesn't sit well with them either. But I'm just spitballin'-ed.}.

One would have expected union households to be among the most enthusiastic supporters of Clinton’s health reforms, but they held back. Resentment over NAFTA played a part, for sure. But the reforms also had uncertain benefits for their members, most of whom already had health care–many with the kind of “Cadillac” plans that Clinton’s team speculated about taxing. In the end, unions never seriously mobilized their members or financed advertising to defend reform {unions behaving selfishly? Surely you jest-ed.}.

Today, the unions are battered and divided and deeply affected by the changes in health care and employment that are propelling the country toward reform. With few illusions about the old system, union households are strong supporters of Obama’s proposal. Yet the members will ultimately judge whether the plan is good for their families–and I’m certain that all the talk about taxing insurance contributions has not gone unnoticed.

Yeah, but once a legbreaker pays a visit to the union household, do you really believe they won't toe the line? And how much do you want to bet that, magically, unions and their plans don't have their contributions taxed? Maybe this is why Obama is so eager to revive unions in this country.
