America’s First Family will not be dining with President Sarkozy and his wife, Carla Bruni, even though they are staying at the residence of the US Ambassador, yards from the Elysée apartments where the Sarkozys spend their weekends.I can't think of a good justification for this snub, assuming the president is truly trying to be non-partisan and reach out to the world.
Update: apparently Obama refused dinner with Sarkozy because he wanted gold-dusted desserts. Or maybe it was just because he can't stand being in the same room as someone who's not fawning with adoration.
Another update: While the US economy is struggling, while our unemployment rate is moving up, while the US needs to be strengthening our ties with our allies, the Obamas are out sightseeing, having date night in a Paris bistro, following dinner up with a boat ride. France is paying for elevated security for a visitor who disrespects their leader.

So. What he said.
And on another note, there are times when simply hearing President Reagan's voice makes me well up. No, I don't think he was some kind of god. But I miss him. God bless him and Nancy and all our troops, past, present and future.

Idiot. Of course, these sort of punitive taxes on private planes is going to be very economically damaging to small airports and aircraft manufacturers, and in the end usually reduce the amount of tax money taken in. This reminds me of the old George Will column, where he notes the damage to the yacht and aircraft building industries in the US, caused by a luxury tax signed into law by Bush the Elder.

Oh, who the fuck am I kidding? It's not like any of them gives a shit about "journalistic integrity" anymore.
Bow down and worship Him, Evan. Provide Him with offerings and sacrifices (like the last shreds of your credibility). You know you want to. You know you need to.
Update: Watch it and try not to throw up a little in your mouth as the death spiral of our independent, free press shifts into hyperdrive...

Gotta laugh at them trying to justify Obama's flip-flops to the left. Going to be interesting when he raises taxes to pay for Porkulus too.

Roeder was seen twice in the week before the Tiller shooting trying to glue shut the clinic's doors. Pederson reported both incidents to the FBI. And Roeder served jail time after being convicted in 1997 of having bomb-making parts in his car.My personal moratorium on not saying bad things about Tiller is over now, by the way. So if you're not mad enough already, watch the vid below the fold. Content warning.

“It makes U.S. jobs more expensive,†Ballmer said in an interview. “We’re better off taking lots of people and moving them out of the U.S. as opposed to keeping them inside the U.S.â€Obama on May 4 proposed outlawing or restricting about $190 billion in tax breaks for offshore companies over the next decade. Such business groups as the National Foreign Trade Council, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable have denounced the proposed overhaul.
U.S. tax rules let companies defer paying corporate rates as high as 35 percent on most types of foreign profits as long as that money remains invested overseas. Obama says he wants to end such incentives to keep foreign profits tax-deferred so that companies would invest them in the U.S.
Microsoft reported an overall effective tax rate of 26 percent for 2008 in its last annual report. “Our effective tax rates are less than the statutory tax rate due to foreign earnings taxed at lower rates,†the report said.
Yeah. This should end well.

Why am I not surprised by this?
The Devens Enterprise Commission, which regulates the plant and other businesses on what used to be Fort Devens, has already slapped the company with two noise ordinance violations.
“This green-energy company has polluted the neighborhood with noise, and it seems not to be working very hard to correct this,†Perry said.
Evergreen spokesman Chris Lawson disagreed and, after downplaying the noise problem, said the company is “really fully committed to working with the community.â€
But that’s not enough for neighbors, who initially thought the noise was related to the massive plant’s construction, which began last July. By January, however, nearby residents realized the noise stemmed from the manufacturing process and began complaining.
“Imagine tuning your radio to a station that gets only static,†said Jay Wallace, co-owner of Dunroven Farm. “Then imagine having to listen to that 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That’s what we are living with.â€
Since the neighbors complained, the company has installed sound-dampening devices, replaced defective blower units, and changed its gas delivery schedules, Lawson said. The company has also hired a noise consultant.
But neighbors say the noise problem hasn’t gotten any better and that could mean trouble for Evergreen.
The plant’s temporary occupancy permit expires this month, and the enterprise commission has told neighbors the plant won’t get a permanent occupancy permit until the noise levels drop, Wallace said. The company also faces possible daily fines for noise violations.

And the claims that the GOP wants to censor journalists begin in 3...2...1...
Allah highlights the most idiotic part:
“To me, the greatest threat to America is not necessarily a recession or even another terrorist attack. The greatest threat to America is a liberal media bias.â€Yeah, because liberal bias kills people and steals their money for a bunch of government boondoggles. Well, it may actually help with the latter, but still.
Worst of all, this sure as hell blunts our arguments against the re-imposition of the fairness doctrine, doesn't it? When you've got a GOP Congressman implying that there's a problem with the fact that most MSM reporters donate to the Dems, and that we need a caucus to deal with that, doesn't that hand the other side a pretty effective talking point about talk radio?

The ugliness escalated when Cleveland's Leron Lee hit a line drive into the stomach of Rangers pitcher Ferguson Jenkins, after which Jenkins dropped to the ground. The fans in the upper deck of Municipal Stadium cheered, then chanted "Hit 'em again! Hit 'em again! Harder! Harder!"
As the game progressed, more fans ran onto the field and caused problems. Ranger Mike Hargrove (who would manage the Indians and lead them to the World Series 21 years later) was pelted with hot dogs and spit, and at one point was nearly struck with an empty gallon jug of Thunderbird.

In today’s speech in Cairo, the President outlined his personal commitment to engagement with Muslim communities, based on mutual respect. He also emphasized that Islam and America are not competing identities and that the U.S. has a long history of defending freedom of faith, including going to court over it if need be. All of these aspects of the American tradition are woven into the story the President referenced of our Justice Department arguing for the right of a Muslim student to wear the hijab to school:Yeah, except that he had nothing to do with that. The White House website goes on to mention that the case he's referring to took place in 2004.Moreover, freedom in America is indivisible from the freedom to practice one's religion. That is why there is a mosque in every state in our union, and over 1,200 mosques within our borders. That's why the United States government has gone to court to protect the right of women and girls to wear the hijab and to punish those who would deny it. (Applause.)
Who was president back then? Aw, who cares. That's ancient history.
(Unless he can use that ancient history to score points against a certain someone, that is.)

David Carradine committed suicide in a Bangkok hotel room either late last night or early this morning. He was in Thailand shooting a new film. I'm certain that the people honoring him at his funeral will be both more interesting and more respectable than those attending George Tiller's.
