A Christian group in Europe has called for its destruction, I think this is the wrong approach, you shouldn't call for the destruction of art pieces on free speech grounds.  Its one thing to ask if it can be removed or defunded (assuming its publicly funded) or something, but its another to ask for its destruction. 

And before I get screeched by some leftist for suggesting it would be okay to ask to remove the exhibit, you have the right to express yourself, you DO NOT have the right to a platform to do it on, unless its your own.  I can say whatever the fuck I want on my own publications, at my own exhibit, at my own newspaper or soapbox, but if I go to somebody's blog and fill it with (The Only Man Who Can Save America!) (Ron Paul '08!) spam, they have the right to kick my ass off their blog, and its NOT an infringement on my speech, of course, that changes with publicly funded speech, because it then gets too muddy, and people do have the right to limit your expression.

Which is in large part why I'm not a fan of publicly-funded art.  When you start making art on someone else's tax-funded dime, they get a say in your input, you're much better off going with a privately funded, charitably funded, profit funded or self funded operation, because then you can express yourself as you choose, people are free to criticize it and denounce it, but ultimately if you fund it, its yours, and yours alone, it should be protected by speech code, and no one can do, er, dick about it.

I know everyone says, "Hey artist guy, why don't you make some art with Islam's holy symbols?" whenever a holy symbol of Christianity or Judaism or really, anything other than Islam is trashed by some unoriginal artist looking to stir shit up. 

Of course, that refusal to criticize Islam is BS'd with weaselly excuses, but we all know the real reason is if you do something insulting to Muslims, the crazy Jihadi ones will start looking for you in order to do harm.

Of course, what I find interesting is that this does nothing but reinforce negatives, at some point, Christians and Jews and followers of any other religion these artists are trashing are gonna figure out that riots, threats of violence and even actual violence get you exactly what you want. 

I'm not condoning it, but at some point, that double standard is gonna come back to bite Western society in the ass, either its all okay, or nothing is, and the double standard on display in both popular culture and in the law is going to end up making nothing the the answer.
