Presented without context

City officials said the balls will remain in the reservoir for about four to five years.
Hey, I can understand if someone wants to dip their balls in something, but City officials are letting people put them in a reservoir? Don't people get their drinking water from reservoirs? And isn't four to five years kind of excessive? You'd think a few minutes would do.

NYT: If you think about it, American Christians are kinda like Josef Fritzl

You stay classy, New York Times:

It was also from The Times, from May 19, and featured 70-odd girls, of “early grade school to college” age, with their fathers, stepfathers and fathers-in-law-to-be, at the ninth annual, largely evangelical “Father-Daughter Purity Ball."

[...]

“From this, it’s only a matter of degree to the man in Austria,” I’d scribbled across the first page.

The “man in Austria,” of course, was 73-year-old Josef Fritzl, who was around that time also making headlines after it was discovered that he had kept his daughter, Elisabeth, 42, locked up in a cellar for 24 years, during which time he’d raped her regularly, and had her bear him seven children.

[...]

Fritzl, a self-described “man of decency and good values,” had imprisoned his daughter after she began staying out all night and drinking. “I had to create a place where I could keep Elisabeth by force if necessary, away from the outside world,” he confessed.

Oh, and the article starts out by comparing the practice to Muslim women getting hymen replacement surgeries across Europe.

MORALEQUIVALENCEMANIA!!!

Anyway, I'm off to visit area churches for advice.  I need to get started on my family's dungeon.

McCain may want to rethink this amnesty nonsense

From Hotair, a poll from Rasmussen shows that one third of voters are angry about the illegal immigration situation.  Another 27% say they are frustrated by the lack of action from DC.  Of the third of those angry voters 83% are angry with the government, and only 12% are angry at illegals themselves.  Voters overall think securing the border should take priority over resolving the status of illegals 63% to 28%.

Here's where it gets interesting, Republicans and unaffiliated voters are slightly more likely to favor welcoming immigrants who don't pose security threats, aren't criminals, and aren't seeking to exploit US entitlements than Democrats!  Where a big source of the anger is coming from is that voters (correctly) believe the government discourages assimilation.  In large part the anger is a product of the American people's desire to protect our culture, and our government's refusal to do anything to achieve that end.

McCain better hope an Amnesty fight doesn't break out this year, and he better pray his little toadie Lindsey "we'll make the bigots shut up!" Graham keeps his piehole shut.  He'd also be wise to kick Juan "Mexico First!" Hernandez off the Straight Talk Express, pronto.

Following up on the Wisconsin Apocalypse

Well, we survived.  Worse for wear but the State of Wisconsin will live on.  Here are some fun headlines from the local TV station's website:

Westbound I-94 in Delafield Closed Friday

Fond du Lac Residents: Flooding "ridiculous"

Several Roads Closed Friday in Saukville

Flooding Crosses Several Highways

Flooding Causes Problems For Those Without Insurance (duh)

More Than 200 Volunteers Help Sandbag Beaver Dam River

Gays Mills Officials Ponder Moving City (!)

Maybe kishnevi is right about the Midwest.  This one is pretty bad.  It's never happened before the last few years but the trend is not an exciting one.  I'd still estimate the total damage at less than 2 billion on the high end though.

We'll see.  Thanks for all the kind words and concern.

Whoa: Report says that Tim Russert has died of a heart attack

I'm stunned, I would have never guessed.  My thoughts and prayers go out to Russert's family.  Russert was only 58.  The New York Post is reporting that he collapsed in the NBC offices and later died.

Time to make the move on drilling legislation?

Ace seems to think so, and I think he's right.  If the Congressional GOP wants to save it's collective ass this fall, now is the time to make their move and move to expand drilling, refining capacity and nuclear energy.  And they can't be squishy, they need to be out front and bold.

People aren't buying the alternative energy lie anymore, they aren't buying the greenie Global Warming propaganda, and there are growing calls for Congress to allow the market to work, and allow increased supply.  The effects of demagoguery pushed by liberals, the media and populists are wearing off, and people are finally coming to their senses.

The GOP in Congress cannot hedge themselves because of McCain's intemperate stubbornness either, if McCain is stupid enough to choose to fight on that hill with the Democrats, let him fight.  He'll either accept that he's lost, and sit it out or join the fray, or lose with them.

House and Senate Republicans should propose as many bills to expand oil exploration and energy production as they can, and keep pounding away daily until public pressure forces the Democrats to go along with it.  The current GOP Congress has what may be their last chance to restore their badly tarnished image.  If they seize the initiative, ignore the Global Warming hysterics, especially Newt Gingrich and John McCain on our own side, and take a bold stand for something, they may not see themselves receive the severe beating they're anticipating taking this fall.

I'm sure you had all heard already, but it just feels so damn good to report.  The Only Man Who Can Save America will now be looking to use his funds to support candidates to carry on the rEVOLution.

Math!

The Dutch took a break from beating up gay models to concentrate on something truly important:

Unlucky for some? Dutch statisticians have established that Friday 13th, a date regarded in many countries as inauspicious, is actually safer than an average Friday.

[...]

"I find it hard to believe that it is because people are preventatively more careful or just stay home, but statistically speaking, driving is a little bit safer on Friday 13th," [Dutch Centre for Insurance Statistics] statistician Alex Hoen told the Verzekerd insurance magazine.
From what I hear, the incredible suckatude of The Happening will be the scariest thing this weekend.

Gaaaahhhh!!!!!!

Ted Turner predicted Global Cannibalism. Now ABC News wants you to shit your pants over global warming.

I guess since we don’t really have to worry about global thermonuclear war anymore, a one degree rise in the Earths temperature will just have to be scary enough.

Are we living in the last century of our civilization? Is it possible that all of our technology, knowledge and wealth cannot save us from ourselves? Could our society actually be heading towards collapse?

Gaaaahhh!!!! OMFG!!!!!

According to many of the world's top scientists, the answer is yes, unless we take action now.

Now? Like right now? Cause I got a barbeque to go to later.

Experts say that extreme changes in climate, combined with dwindling resources, famine, war and disease have the potential to create a post-apocalyptic world in less than a hundred years. Harvard University and Woods Hole climatologist John Holdrens says we cannot continue going down the same path.

GAAAAAHHHH!!!!! OMFG!!! *furiously throwing empty Coke can in recycle bin*

"If we continue on business as usual, we are going to see more floods, more droughts, more heat waves, more wildfires, more ice melting, faster sea level rise," Holdren said.

So WE control the weather? We can stop floods and droughts, (wait…floods AND droughts?) I wish somebody had told me we controlled the weather before I had to deal with a couple of rainy days on my last vacation.

Ok, I’m calming down, we can stop the Apocalypse, it’s within our power to stave off the END OF THE WORLD. I’m feeling a little better, tell me more ABC News:

"We really have less than a decade to start getting this right. If we're still dragging our feet in 2015 I think it really becomes at that point almost impossible for the world to avert a degree of climate change that we simply will not be able to manage without intolerable cost and consequences."

Gaaaahhhhh!!!!!! OMFG!!!!! 2015 people!!! Seven years!!! Seven years to “Start getting it right” or we’re all DOOMED, DOOMED!!!!!!!

Everything that’s ever happened in the history of mankind swings in the balance of the next seven years. All we’ve done, all we’ve created, all we are will CEASE TO EXIST, if we don’t do……… something or other, by 2015. Listen to me now people, if you care at all about the very future of mankind, you better start doing whatever the fuck “getting it right” means, and you better start doing whatever that may be IMMEDIATELY!!

I’m starting now, I’m gonna start “getting it right” this very minute.

Just as soon as I figure out what the fuck that even means.

Erin Go Fuck Yourselves

The voters of Ireland did everyone on Earth a favor and shot down the EU's Lisbon Treaty:

It's over!!!! Final result: 53.4 percent of the electorate voted to reject the treaty, while 46.6 percent voted in favour. All but seven constituencies rejected the treaty, with a total of 752,451 voting in favour and 862,415 votes against. Turnout was more than 51 per cent - better than the second Nice treaty vote!!!

Take that you mega-statist post-national fucktards!  That's what you get for trying to sneak a draconian constitution through without giving 99% of the constituents a vote on it!

Well, Ireland fucked your stupid plan.

Rot in hell, postmodern transnationals.

Update:  I'm going to ram a railroad spike in some columnist's ass in the extended entry.

Brady Campaign fascists admit major defeat

Aww, our little Sturmabteilung-in-training, Paul Helmke of the Brady Campaign admits they're probably gonna get their asses handed to them in the upcoming Heller decision.

The fascist vermin of the Brady Campaign joined DC as a "friend of other fascist vermin" brief in the case.  Says Helmke,

"We've lost the battle on what the Second Amendment means," campaign president Paul Helmke told ABC News. "Seventy-five percent of the public thinks it's an individual right. Why are we arguing a theory anymore? We are concerned about what we can do practically."

In other words, we're going to try and push bans, push for abusive regulations, and take those as far as we can go, and hope that doing so makes shooting uninteresting or tie people up in enough bureaucratic red tape that it guts American gun culture, particularly among da yoot.  We know your game, but you know what?  You'll lose, more and more people see what a dangerous lie your vision is.  The gun control movement will become the prohibitionists of the 21st century.  You'll have some victories, win some big battles, but you'll lose the war, and your movement will be nothing but a relic in our history.

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x73/doubleplusundeadmeenu/sharkjump-1.png
The Brady Campaign's days of political relevance are soon to be over.

The Brady fascists are hoping that this decision makes people lazy about defending their gun rights, so that they can take an incremental approach to undermining your essential rights,

If the Supreme Court strikes down the D.C. gun ban, the Brady Campaign is hoping that it will reorient gun control groups around more limited measures that will be harder to cast as infringements of the Second Amendment.

"The NRA [National Rifle Association] won't have this fear factor," Helmke said.

But they aren't completely done trying for Hail Mary type schemes at destroying our rights,

The Chicago law may also survive because a decision in the D.C. case will likely not resolve the issue of whether the Second Amendment applies to the states and other cities that are not federal enclaves.

The good news is, if Justice Kennedy flips his coin heads up this time, it is pretty likely that the anti-2nd policies of the Soviet of Chicago(where some are more equal than others) will be challenged next, and I can't see the above line of bullshit working to stop the us from winning that either.  So get ready Chicagoans, we may be liberating you next!

Oh one more thing, the Brady fascists loooove McCain's stubborn fixation on the nonexistent "gun show loophole."  *sigh* Dammit McCain, why do you have to be such an intemperate, thickheaded, stubborn jackass?

Oh...so it was For The Children™

At a second fundraiser last night, Obama acknowledged a moment's hesitation before venturing out Sunday on his bike in not his most flattering photo-op.

“I had an internal debate,” he said. “Because I knew that the A.P. was going to take a picture, and they were trying to portray it like Dukakis wearing that tank helmet. But I wanted to make sure that the children who saw that picture knew that even the Democratic nominee for president wears a helmet when he goes biking. Now, obviously the rest of my apparel was apparently not up to snuff, because I got a hard time from all sorts of blogs who said I looked like Urkel.”

Well, I guess it's at least a little refreshing that he didn't call his bike helmet a "distraction" or claim that those weren't the clothes he thought he knew before he wore them.  Also, the bike didn't end up under a bus, so there's that, too.

Hurricanes vs. Tornadoes

Commenter Kishnevi compares living in a hurricane alley to living in the Midwest.  Just for comparison sake, the total cost of all tornadoes in the United States from 1950 - 1994: $19,198,781,343.00

Hurricane Andrew: $26,500,000,000.00
Hurricane Charley: $15,000,000,000.00
Hurricane Ivan:      $14,200,000,000.00

Need I go on?

I'm sure flooding in the Midwest would add to our disaster total but not even on the order of magnitude necessary to catch up to numbers like that.
