This is heartbreaking.  My condolences and prayers to her family and friends.  She is a hero.

People and businesses fleeing the Soviet of California for places like Texas, you say?  I would have never guessed, but here it is.

Can we just disband the State Department?  It seems to be trying to challenge the UN for biggest waste of time on earth.

By popular request, Moronpundit's excellent goof on some whiny feminist

Anyone remember this quote?  Speaking of media, check out this funky map.

John asks what your favorite NPR program is in a poll, which includes A Prairie Home Companion.  I can't help myself, I have to get this out of my system. Garrison Keillor should be put in stocks and pelted with rotten produce for crimes against entertainment.

Heh.

Cuffy is awaiting moderation, he'll be waiting a long time...

Speaking of shady Obama connections, here's one more.

Awesome.

They better leave my cigars alone.

Heh.

Snapped Shot gets a plug from Melanie Phillips, the lucky ratbastards.

1 I used to really like A Prairie Home Companion, especially the Lake Woebegone monologues.  But after 9/11, Keillor got all political -- and Lefty -- so I stopped.  It just wasn't that funny anymore.

2 Everyone has a few people that just grate on them in the worst kind of way, Keillor just happens to be one of mine.  I could never stand him, and I always found Prairie Home Companion to be utter crap.  When I listen to NPR it'll usually be for classical or jazz, most music that is under 20 years old is utter crap too.  Oldies, classical and jazz stations FTW!

Another great tour through the Moronosphere!

4 New tagline:  Like being dragged slowly through Hell!

5 I didn't know if you saw this, but the Ace-o-Spades lifestyle is under attack on military bases....from Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.).

Then you must be our Dante.

Wouldn't that be "Then you must be our Virgil."?

Tangent but Moron Pundit made me think of it,

Have any of you read "Inferno" by Niven and Pournelle?

Great book, it's a retelling of Dante's Inferno and it's pretty darn good. The circles are updated for newer sins.

I think they're re-releasing it, at least I see Amazon has it for "pre-order". I don't know if they've changed it from the book I've owned for around 15 years or so, but the same guy is the protagonist (Carpentier) and the guide is the same. Although, Amazon's reviewer shouldn't tell you who the guide is as that's revealed near the end and it has a point.

8 Thanks for the tip, I've covered the whole pr0n on bases issue before.  My attitude is if the brass think it is for the best to keep it off base, fine, but a lot of it seems to be justified "we don't like it, we can get away with banning it, so that's what we're gonna do."

Yes, Veeshir.  Absolutely, it should be Virgil.

10 I still haven't read Dante's Inferno.  *hangs head in shame*  But I have it next to my desk - it's just waiting for me to finish off the semester.

I obviously don't approve of porn, but for crying out loud, banning it on bases is just stupid.  They're adults.

11 When I was in I thought one of the most ironic things that could be done was to ban pr0n on military bases. Think of it; the people that defend your freedom are subject to more government regulation than the people that they are defending, and I am not talking about the UCMJ stuff either. Cigarettes are taxed to the local rate after a political activist decided that lower prices of said commodity on a base was incentive for people to smoke, and now they are trying to take skin mags off the bases as well. I'm out now so this really doesn't directly apply to me anymore, but still...
