[W]hen the out-of-another-era glamorous and gorgeous Christina Hendricks hosted a private dinner and Johnnie Walker pairing at the penthouse of the Chateau Marmont, it seemed a match made in Don Draper heaven. The evening unfolded with close friends of Hendricks on the terrace—including her husband, actor Geoffrey Arend, and whiskey master Stephen Wilson—sipping Johnnie and Gingers (Johnnie Walker Red Label and ginger ale) and Blood and Sands (Johnnie Walker Red Label, orange juice, sweet vermouth and cherry syrup) and nibbling from plates of bacon-wrapped dates and teeny beef Wellingtons.
Scotch, Bacon AND Christina Hendricks how the hell did the guy have the presence of mind to take notes for the article.

I'm no law-talkin' guy, but seeing as how they rushed this through just days after the previous statute was struck down—in other words, without much of any legal review—I'm guessing there are a bunch of provisions in it that could potentially be struck down by the courts.

4chan got wind of it, decided North Korea was nice this time of year and well, NoKo it is.
That's about funny.
Now if he would only allow his fans to vote for the songs he sings, we could get him to sing, "I'm so ronery". That would be even funnier, you know, until they shoot him.
Yeah, Allah's headlines.

h/t the blog prof who has a great point: "On second thought, it is interesting that liberals want to beat conservatives over the head with a legal shovel when it suits their purposes. But when the law is against their ideological goals, they flip it the finger. The handgun ban recently passed in Chicago comes to mind right after the Supreme Court upheld the 2nd amendment. This case of discrimination in violation of the Michigan Constitution and the equal protection clause of the US Constitution are 2 really good examples of that mentality."
Exactly. In 2006, the Michigan state Constitution was specifically amended to eliminate the use of race in state public education. I cannot conceive of how this would comply with that constitutional mandate. But, hey, since this is For The Children, who gives a damn if it's illegal. I'm sure the taxpayers will be thrilled to pay the legal defense fees for the lawsuits over this, what with the intentions being so pure and all.

"If you are asking me, 'Am I willing to live with that versus living with a nuclear Iran?,' my answer is still the same: 'We cannot live with a nuclear Iran.'"Oh, wait...

You know, it would be nice if those who claim to be feminist actually give a shit about things like this as opposed to bitching that the Republican women who are gaining grounds are too hot. I'd love for someone to ask Whoopi if it's okay for male family members to actually kill a woman because of who she's dating.
I know, I know it's not surprising that there's no uproar about this. But it should be.

The BFF was readmitted to the hospital on Saturday morning with severe anemia. Severe as in nearly to the point of death. She was given blood and saline and all that and was improved enough for a liver biopsy and another CT scan yesterday.
The oncologist came in today. Cancer of undetermined origin. He's talking Stage IV. He's taking palliative care only. He's talking terminal. The liver biopsy results aren't in yet and will taken about a week or so but it's the worst possible news. He said that there are spots on the liver and it's not certain her liver is in any condition for chemotherapy to be effective. He didn't give a timeline since it's not really sure where the cancer is originating. They believe it's some kind of cancer that's spreading through the bloodstream (I'm blanking on the term).
Biopsy results are pending and he's going to be sending everything out for a second opinion but as of right now it's about determining how long before she dies, not if. And we're taking weeks to months, not years.
She's devastated. I want to punch God in the face.
Please pray or send good thoughts or anything it is you do. To be utterly selfish, I do not know what I will do without her. I can't even begin to imagine it.
Fuck cancer. Fuck it with Dick Cheney's cougar condom'd dick.

I am rereading Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdomâ€, and doing a little outside research on Hayek’s views.
Today I was looking up a quote on deflation, that I had seen previously, in response to a post I saw by R. S. McCain. McCain seems to like the idea of deflation, whereas my understanding is that most economists consider deflation to be much more damaging to an economy than mild to moderate inflation. During the course of digging up the quote I was looking for I came across the April 1945 Reader’s Digest condensed version of “The Road to Serfdomâ€. I have never seen this version before and I think it is probably safe to assume that most people currently jumping on the Hayek bandwagon haven’t either so I am linking it here for the curious.
BTW – the quote I was looking for was:
The silly deflationary policy that Hayek is referring to was a failure of the Federal Reserve to inflate the monetary supply to combat deflation. The deflationary cycle is described in Wikipedia:“I agree with Milton Friedman that once the Crash had occurred, the Federal Reserve System pursued a silly deflationary policy. I am not only against inflation but I am also against deflation. So, once again, a badly programmed monetary policy prolonged the depression.â€
During the Crash of 1929 preceding the Great Depression, margin requirements were only 10%.[12] Brokerage firms, in other words, would lend $9 for every $1 an investor had deposited. When the market fell, brokers called in these loans, which could not be paid back. Banks began to fail as debtors defaulted on debt and depositors attempted to withdraw their deposits en masse, triggering multiple bank runs. Government guarantees and Federal Reserve banking regulations to prevent such panics were ineffective or not used. Bank failures led to the loss of billions of dollars in assets.[13] Outstanding debts became heavier, because prices and incomes fell by 20–50% but the debts remained at the same dollar amount. After the panic of 1929, and during the first 10 months of 1930, 744 US banks failed. (In all, 9,000 banks failed during the 1930s). By April 1933, around $7 billion in deposits had been frozen in failed banks or those left unlicensed after the March Bank Holiday.[14]I don't know if this view is correct or not, but it appears that Hayek agreed with it, at least in part. I am not going to claim that he wholeheartedly endorsed all of the Monetarist's conclusions, just that he would have attempted to prevent the deflationary cycle.Bank failures snowballed as desperate bankers called in loans, which the borrowers did not have time or money to repay. With future profits looking poor, capital investment and construction slowed or completely ceased. In the face of bad loans and worsening future prospects, the surviving banks became even more conservative in their lending.[13] Banks built up their capital reserves and made fewer loans, which intensified deflationary pressures. A vicious cycle developed and the downward spiral accelerated.
The liquidation of debt could not keep up with the fall of prices it caused. The mass effect of the stampede to liquidate increased the value of each dollar owed, relative to the value of declining asset holdings. The very effort of individuals to lessen their burden of debt effectively increased it. Paradoxically, the more the debtors paid, the more they owed.[11] This self-aggravating process turned a 1930 recession into a 1933 great depression.
