Though the Soldiers didn't have the opportunity to hand out the supplies personally, before leaving Camp Kiwi, they took time to talk with the children who live in Bamyan. One teenager, 18-year-old Qugamali, who also teaches English classes in Bamyan, said they are learning in school about Japan and how the United States helped Japan recover after World War II.
I'm glad this Afghan kid can make that kind of connection, I'm not sure a lot of American kids could make that connection. Be sure to read the whole thing. Shame the media ignores stories like this, not that I'm surprised by the media's conduct.
Thanks to Alice.

Oh, did I s ay "right winger"? I meant Barack Obama, the President of the United States. And who is the guy he's allowing into the White House? How about a dude in Uganada who wrote the law whereby gay folks can be imprisoned or executed?
David Bahati, the MP who authored Uganda's anti-homosexuality bill, is expected to attend a prayer breakfast with US president Barack Obama.
Bahati told the Ugandan newspaper Sunday Monitor he would be attending the National Prayer Breakfast on February 4th.
The event usually attended by the president, who the newspaper described as a "gays-tolerant liberal president".
The breakfast is organised by The Fellowship – a secretive conservative Christian organisation which is also known as The Family. Its members include politicians, religious leaders and corporate executives.
Bahati may be asked to speak at the event, which will also be attended by Congress members and Cabinet secretaries. Previous speakers have included Tony Blair, Bono and Mother Theresa.
Uganda's president Yoweri Museveni signalled last week that he was stepping back from the bill, which would execute gays in some circumstances.
He said his country must consider its "foreign interests" and cited world leaders such as British prime minister Gordon Brown, who had expressed his concern about the proposed legislation.
Bahati, the MP for Ndorwa West, has refused to back down, saying his bill will "protect the traditional family".
Wow. Funny, I don't recall seeing this splashed all over the American Media.
Yeah, I know. I know. It's the McCain folks. But at least they are doing more than the Clintons, Obamas, Carters, or Kennedys.

The policies are aimed at stopping Muslims from becoming radicalised through measures such as sponsoring moderate community groups.Ministers insisted that the strategy, which costs more than £140 million a year, had “real successesâ€. More than 200 people were convicted of terrorist offences in the past eight years.
But the NAMP claimed the policies had led to “hatred against Muslims†which “has grown to a level that defies all logic and is an affront to British valuesâ€.
Well, I guess they're right. I mean, it's not like anything else could ever possibly lead to an anti-radical-Islamist backlash as far as terrorism in the UK is concerned. Nothing at all. Nope, I'm sure the NAMP's contention that the British government should be focusing on "far-right extremists" instead of Islamist fanatics isn't at all ridiculous.
Hell, just ask Janet. She knows how well systems like this work, after all.
By the way, the article goes on to mention that the NAMP is concerned with the BNP, which I don't know a whole lot about, but I've read some stuff suggesting that they're a racist/nativist party. If that's true, they can fuck off. That said, I don't recall anything about BNP members blowing up subway trains or double decker buses.
I'm just saying is all.

Obama said he had made mistakes during the first year, but the big issues had to be tackled.
"We immediately were confronted with just stacks of tough decisions that had to be made. During the course of this year we've had to make some decisions that were unpopular. We've made some mistakes. I've personally made some mistakes," he told ABC News.
"But what I can tell you is, a year later, I've never been more optimistic about the possibilities of America. I'm certainly a lot more optimistic than I was a year ago."
In the interview, he reminded Americans of the deep economic problems he inherited and the public animosity toward the previous administration. "The same thing that swept Scott Brown into office swept me into office," Obama said.
Thank God! I was afraid we had finally found something that Obama couldn't blame Bush for, but then Wham... he pulled it out.
I'm not sure why but this song seems appropriate at this time:

Money shot quote "There is some belief that he actually doesn’t believe in same-sex marriage".
No! No! You mean some people may think that Obama doesn't believe in gay marriage just because Obama said he doesn't believe in gay marriage? Look, I know, I know, everything Obama says comes with an expiration date but this one is pretty solid.
I've had it out (so to speak) with queer friends about how the hell can they claim at one and the same time that opposition to gay marriage is per se homophobia and then rasp rhapsodic over Obama. Generally, I get the "oh he doesn't really mean it" response. Inquiries as to whether or not it isn't more horrifying to take a stand against gay marriage strictly for political gain are usually met with a variant of shut up, he argued.
Gavin, I can call you Gavin, right, guess what? There are some of we homocons who knew all along that Obama is full of complete and utter bullshit about what Gay, Inc. is determined to call gay rights. He. Doesn't. Mean. It. He never ever ever did. He's lying, lying right to your face.
I'll admit, I don't feel sorry at all for those who start shrieking about how Obama is abandoning the gays. Dude, all y'all were the ones who thought he was on your side in the first place. He isn't, he's not going to be and you've opened your mouth and removed all doubt by saying otherwise.
Off with you, Gavin, have fun with the rest of your life. I'm sorry that you didn't realize that Obama just wasn't that into what you thought he was. Sucks to be you.

The dude isn't so much for the content of the article, which is faboo, but for who it is who wrote this.
I cannot believe the push back on how the Left treated Bush and on the historical narrative attempting to be set is beginning now. There's a cynical part of me that believes this is to clear the way for Obama being praised when he does the same thing. But still. It's good to see there being some attempts to bring sanity to this.
I'll admit, I never thought we would make it through Bush's terms without another major attack on American soil. I am grateful and humbled at the efforts that must have been made to make that so.
I'm glad to see this happening. I hope it doesn't go too far the other way but I'd rather have that than the vituperation.

I suppose it's true, lawyers don't have to actually make any sense.Rick Strandlof may have lied about being a decorated Iraq War veteran, but those lies are protected by the First Amendment, according to his attorney and a civil liberties organization.
...
He is accused of posing as "Rick Duncan," a wounded Marine captain who received a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. Strandlof used that persona to found the Colorado Veterans Alliance and solicit funds for the organization.
...
Rutherford Institute attorney Douglas McKusick argues that Strandlof's lies did not "inflict harm" upon the medals he lied about or debase the meaning of the medals for the veterans who actually earned them.

As much as I'm in favor of blaming Rahm Emanuel for, well, everything, the far left is making my jaw drop.
I say that Coakley faced her difficult situation because the leadership of the Demcratic party decided to forget who elected them...I've written before about how the Democratic leadership has betrayed its constituents. This has happened at many levels. Senate leaders and Rahm Emanuel have hand-picked blue-dog, conservative Democratic candidates to run against solid progressives. The DSCC and DCCC have funded conservative Democrats IN PRIMARIES, helping them to oppose progressives.Just so I'm sure I'm understanding this...
- Rahm Emanuel is too conservative.
- Martha Coakley's failures had nothing to do with the fact that she's an awful human being. And stupid to boot.
- Martha Coakley is too conservative.
- Progressive is no longer a deeply coded term for socialism, it's flat-out in-your-face socialism.
- The reason Air America failed is because of a vast right-wing conspiracy, and not because progressive radio hosts have gone completely outside the realm of common sense and rational thought.
Update: @jtLOL points out that the reason Martha Coakley lost is because Massachusetts hates women.
Update 2: Teh crayzee, it is spreading.
