Name That Party: Portland Mayoral sex scandal edition

I've read through this story two or three times, and I'll be damned if I can find any mention of the guy's political affiliation:

The mayor of Portland, Ore., told city commissioners Sunday he will not resign despite calls for him to do so after he admitted he lied and asked a teenager to lie about their sexual relationship.

Mayor Sam Adams publicly apologized this past week for lying early in his campaign about the relationship with an 18-year-old man in 2005.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess he's a Dem, seeing as how the AP probably would have put the word "Republican" in flashing red fifty point type in the headline if he happened to be one of ours.

Alcohol helps perpetuate the illusion of bedroom proficiency

I never realized they actually have a name for it - brewer's droop.

Australian researchers have made the surprise discovery that consuming alcohol actually improves men's performance in the bedroom.
...
In a study of 1580 Australian men, drinkers reported up to 30 per cent fewer problems than teetotallers.

Emphasis mine. I'm going to guess that at least a few of the readers here have experienced the guy who doesn't realize that he tried stuffing the marshmallow into the piggybank and then passed out cold on top of you, limp as a month-old carrot. And then tries to act in the morning like he gave you the night of your life and you should be paying him.  But I'm not bitter, really.

Shocka! The Deciders Have Discovered (Post Election) That Obama Is Centralizing Authority

Good thing The Deciders were busy with the important topics during the election, such as Trig Palin's parentage and Joe The Plumber's Tax Files. But the best part, to me, are these tidbits:

For all the talk of his “Team of Rivals” pick in Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Obama last week handed the two hottest hotspots in American foreign policy to presidential envoys – one to former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, and the other to a man who knows his way around Foggy Bottom better than Clinton does, Richard Holbrooke.

"Czar" Carol Browner will head up Obama's fight on global warming, where once his energy and environmental chiefs might have stepped in. Tom Daschle scored a ground floor office in the West Wing not by running Health and Human Services – but because of his role as Obama's health-reform czar.

Pulling power close is something all recent presidents have done – and on the campaign trail, Obama spoke out against George W. Bush’s attempt to expand his executive authority.

But when it comes to building his own team, Obama is taking the notion of a powerful White House staff to new heights, leaving little doubt who will set policy and guide the politics of the his newborn administration.

And this:
But Obama appears willing to take that chance. Aides say he believes the Cabinet structure is outdated because it doesn’t recognize that problems like global warming sprawl across several agencies, often requiring a sort of uber-Cabinet member – a czar – to confront them.

That helps explain the selection of Browner as an "energy-environment" czar, said one Obama aide.
...
"Some of the Cabinet agencies were created before the most pressing issues of today,” this aide said. "To have people cut through a bureaucracy that doesn’t match the times we’re in is just more effective.”

Gee. Nice to see that once their guy is in office, The Deciders suddenly decide to pry into his dealings.

From The "Please Just Go Away" Files

Remember Ted Haggard, the Evangelical Pastor whose dalliances with male prostitutes was revealed days before the 2006 Elections and used by The Deciders as another spoke in their "Culture of Corruption" meme? Well, the jerkoff is back, and filthier than ever.

Brady Boyd, who succeeded Haggard as senior pastor of the 10,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs, told The Associated Press that the man came forward to church officials in late 2006 shortly after a Denver male prostitute claimed to have had a three-year cash-for-sex relationship with Haggard.

Boyd said an "overwhelming pool of evidence" pointed to an "inappropriate, consensual sexual relationship" that "went on for a long period of time ... it wasn't a one-time act." Boyd said the man was in his early 20s at the time. He said he was certain the man was of legal age when it began.

Reached Friday night, Haggard declined to comment and said all interviews would have to be arranged through a publicist for HBO, which is airing a documentary about him this month.

Boyd said the church reached a legal settlement to pay the man for counseling and college tuition, with one condition being that none of the parties involved discuss the matter publicly.

Boyd said a Colorado Springs TV station reached him Thursday to say the young man was planning to provide a detailed report of his relationship with Haggard to the station. Boyd said the church preferred to keep the matter private, but it was the man's decision to go public.

Leonard Pitts, dishonest, sanctimonious twat

He asks this about Rush's hope that Obama fails to enact his agenda,

``I hope he fails.''

Do you ever say that about your president if you are an American who loves your country? Would you say it about George W. Bush, who was disastrous; about Bill Clinton, who was slimy; about Jimmy Carter, who was inept; about Richard Nixon, who was crooked? You may think he's going to fail, yes. You may warn he's going to fail, yes.

But do you ever hope he fails? Knowing his failure is the country's failure? Isn't that, well . . . disloyal?

Hey Lenny, your pipe?  Put this in, start smoking.  That collection of quotes isn't even the tip of the iceberg, it's a few molecules that make up a microscopic sliver of the iceberg.  I'm done listening to dishonest twats like you who want to pretend the endless stream of treasonous and vile shit spewed endlessly from the liberal elite and nutroots these past eight years never happened.

Name That Party, Hooker Edition

Apparently, a high priced call girl was arrested recently in Chicago. In and of itself, that is not big news. But a paragraph from this story caught my attention.

Cohen allegedly solicits customers under the name Charlie Sunn, with a Web site that touts her attributes -- 34D-24-34 -- as well as the services she offers. The Saigon-born, 37-year-old woman is Vietnamese and Swedish, according to her Web site. Public records show she is a registered Republican and holds a hunting license in Nevada.

Ironically, in the preceding paragraph, Eliot Spitzer's name was mentioned. And guess what was missing from that article?

So, I emailed the writer, Frank Main, to ask if they were playing "name that Party". Send him some love as well.

Something to check out

If there's one Twitter feed to follow, it'd be Senator Coburn's Pork Barrel, which chronicles wasteful pork spending in DC.  Yeah, I know that pork is a drop in the bucket as far as DC wasteful spending goes, but every little bit helps, and Coburn has been pretty solid all around on trying to limit spending.

Anyway, this one caught my eye, given that it's not too far away from here, an official from Northumberland County was given $1500 for plane tickets plus expenses to go to an expo on renewable energy in France.  Hey, I'd be willing to listen to a bunch of bullshit artists rattle on about "green energy" for a free trip to France, if for no other reason than to get my fill of wine and brandy.

The proverbial elephant in the room

This has been kicking around my skull for a while, and I just had to get it out there...

If He was born Brian Harrison O'Grady, a guy with a white mother from Kansas and, well, a white father from Kansas (or a white father from anywhere else, for that matter), and He had pretty much the same resume, He never would have made it to the Senate, much less anywhere near the Oval Office, right?

Discuss.

(And, yes, I'm fully aware that I'm a RACIST!!!!11!!one!1!! for even thinking this, much less committing it to teh internets.)

Thought on the Obama/Limbaugh story

Looks to me like Obama is trying to offer an out to the GOP leadership for selling out conservatives.  When Obama says that the GOP leadership can't let Limbaugh stop them, he doesn't mean Limbaugh, he means conservatives.  He knows the GOP leadership despises us, he's trying to convince them that selling out is gonna be alright.  Seems to me there's a race between Obama and conservatives to see who can implant a backbone into the GOP elites first.

Zionist Coca-Cola

Yet another reason to boycott Pepsi...

The Iranian government has called on a soft drink producer to clarify its links with the US company Coca-Cola following a decision to boycott "Zionist" products, a press report said on Monday.

Dead or alive, you're coming with me

There's no way this could go wrong...for instance, at the top of an escalator.

Japanese researchers in Tokyo on Wednesday unveiled a robotic mall cop, a two-foot-high security guard on wheels that can track down bad guys running amok on commercial property and disable them with a 'Spider-Man' like web.
Oh, wait, they only have single-story malls in Japan, don't they?

President Obama

Fuck.  You.

Update:  Obama's immediate hubris, arrogance and lack of nuance in the first week of his presidency confirms my greatest fear.

This is the end game for the left.  They believe the 2008 election was the G.O.P.'s Waterloo.

They aren't just going to lead from the center in an attempt to maintain slim electoral majorities.  They intend this to be the end.  Obama believes they have enough momentum and majority to finish it and they will act with all the entitlement and lack of diplomacy that such a mentality implies.

Some predictions.  They will, before the end of this term, remove the Senate rule that requires 60 votes to close debate; the so-called Nuclear Option.  They will also attempt to bring back the Fairness Doctrine (as a commenter points out).

In their mind, this is the last 8 years of two-party Democracy in America.  And why not?  A bare majority of the population which will only grow with increased entitlements and (il)legal immigration.  Soon, a majority of American's will take more from the government than they put in, ensuring that those that pay for government will be too few to change anything.  They have a media so supportive that they come with an underwire.

They have every advantage and this time there will be no pussy-footing around.  This is for keeps.

Don't say you weren't warned.

Question to all you PA Morons

Did your State Representative/Senator promise to give back their raise?  Mine definitely didn't give back theirs if they did.  For those unaware of the back story, a few years ago, the PA State Legislature decided to sneak themselves a little pay raise, pissed off voters, and a bunch of incumbents were booted out of office in the next election, a few of which were pretty powerful in Harrisburg.  Ever since then, any time the words "Legislative Pay Raise" are uttered, PA state legislators dive into a foxhole, cower and shout "I'LL GIVE EVERY PENNY BACK I PROMISE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T VOTE ME OUT!"

This time, the PA legislature was given a raise this December because of a previous state law that automatically raises their pay.  For those that don't know, PA legislators are actually paid fairly well compared to most other states, which is in part why people flip their shit when the PA legislature gets another raise.

While you're at it, could you also ban the bugs from crawling under my skin?

This starts out as a pretty standard lefty screed against the use of "torture" in interrogations...

Within days or even hours of his swearing in, President Barack Obama is expected to sign an executive order prohibiting any agent of government from committing acts of torture -- an order that would incontrovertibly reject as illegal, inhumane, and a violation of international law and treaties the catalogue of "enhanced interrogation techniques" practiced by officially-sanctioned operatives of the Bush-Cheney administration.
But then, after some stuff about waterboarding and the (of course) scare-quoted "war on terror," it veers hard into Crazytown...
Example: A nationwide, government-funded covert vigilante network, comprised of citizen "community watch" and anti-terrorism volunteers and off-duty or retired public safety, military and intelligence officers, who systematically stalk and inflict physical punishment on American citizens who have been unjustly "targeted" by authorities as "dissidents," "troublemakers," "whistle-blowers" or "undesirables."

These operatives are said to employ high-tech devices such as the latest generation of silent, radiation-emitting "directed energy weapons" to degrade the physical health of their targets -- what victims of so-called organized community "gang stalking" deem as an officially-sanctioned slow genocide.
I'm pretty sure the Freemasons are behind the whole scheme.  Them, and Con-Agra Foods.  And the Interstellar Reptiloids.

Yeah.

Anderson Cooper, Moron?

I don't know a lot about being a cable news anchor, but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to get into the Val-U-Rite until after your show airs.
