Remember, kids, hating gingers is racist, too.
Virgin Media's newspaper advert for the program "Dating in the Dark" included the text: "How do you spot a ginger in the dark?"
Virgin said the premise of the show was to challenge people's perception of attractiveness and to encourage decisions based on personality as well as looks.
However the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) agreed with three complainants that the ad was likely to cause serious offence and should not be used again.
"We considered the text was likely to be interpreted ... as a statement that reflected a choice between looks and personality ... being a suggestion that people with ginger hair were unattractive," the ASA said in a statement.
"We considered the ad was unlikely to be interpreted to be light-hearted in tone and was instead likely to be seen as prejudicial against people with ginger hair."
Other adverts in the series used to promote the show had included the tagline: "When the lights come on I just hope I haven't been kissing Shrek."
On Tuesday, Britain's biggest retailer Tesco apologized and said it had withdrawn a Christmas card which showed a child with red hair sitting on the lap of Santa Claus under the banner: "Santa loves all kids. Even ginger ones."
First, National Kick A Ginger Day, now this?

Sen. Tom Coburn has just demanded that the Senate clerk read the single-payer amendment offered by Sen. Bernie Sanders — and it’s 767 pages.
Typically, Senators offering amendments will ask for unanimous consent to avoid reading the entire meausure, but all it takes is one Senator to object to demand its reading, and Coburn objected to Sanders attempt to dispense with the reading of the amendment.
Oh, FUCK YES. That just made my nipples hard. It should become GOP SOP to do this to every fucking bill that enters the Senate until the end of fucking time. Who cares if they do the same thing to our bills so long as it slows the inevitable death march into socialist oblivion these fuck-nuggets are planning. Its not like we really need to pass any more laws, is it? Why, I'm pretty sure that if congress NEVER FUCKING PASSED A LAW AGAIN I'd be just fucky ducky.
So yes. Grind the gears of government to a halt. Its a stupid, corrupt, over-powerful clusterfuck that is in need of a good ass whipping.
Fuck man, think about it! If I was elected senator I could introduce hundred thousand page bills and then demand to have them read! It would be like a fillibuster on megacrack!
WIN!

Oh, how delightful to discover that the volcano is larger than expected. Because it wasn't like it was already going to send us all into the ZA once it blows or anything.
Seriously, the determination by some portions of the Warmenistas to ignore natural formations such as this is enough to make one believe that they don't actually give a crap about or understand the natural environment at all.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go watch Woody stand there and watch Yellowstone explode because he wouldn't be incinerated instantly or anything. Oh Emmerich, you do fill my life with joy.

Yes, while the rest of us were blithely going on with our Christmassy lives and preparing our aluminum poles for Festivus, an ugly blogwar broke out in the right hemisphere of Godzilla-versus-Mothra scope and fury, featuring volley after return volley of fiery halitosis and hair-splitting pedantry. Escalating a minor dispute into an all-engulfing shit fit, Protein Wisdom's Jeff Goldstein and Patterico's Pontifications' Patrick Frey locked themselves in a mutual-destruction danse macabre that couldn't be more gaudy and futile if I had scripted it myself, in my recurring role as Mischievous Trickster. The catalyst for this duel at Diablo was an inquiry into whether certain moldy comments written in the nineties by conservative journalist and carnival barker Robert Stacy McCain revealed telltale residue of racism. This evolved into a Goldstein tutorial on authorial intent full of jargon and bluster which was met by Patrick Frey in a tedious display of his own brand of bravado, with ratfucky posters rushing to and fro from the comments sections of the two blogs with pipsqueak Iago poisonings of innuendo and incitement to keep everything at full spite.Of course at root this really isn't about accusations of racism or authorial intent or who promised to delete which emails or who banned whom from commenting, this is simply a foam-rubber swordfight between two sore, angry egos too fatuously proud to stand down.
Maybe this is a hint that both of them are wrong and need to back off. Especially since the comments section at Patterico's is starting to resemble that at Little Green Footballs. At PW most of the comments seem to be from Goldstein himself (j/k), but there does seem to be a little more back and forth in my opinion.

Hey, how's about a little music while you wait out there in the, um, cold?
If you dance around a little, it'll help you to stay warm. But try to hold your breath while you do so. That carbon dioxide you're exhaling is some seriously dangerous shit. Hell, I bet you can even see it leaving your mouth and nose, polluting our precious atmosphere.

My pain meds have made me a little too dopey to do any serious digging for things to blog about. But even in my very loopy state, there was simply no way I could pass up this gem of a story involving global warming, cocaine, and some good old fashioned UK fail:
Law enforcement agencies destroy fragile ecosystems when they target illegal coca plantations, often dropping more chemicals on them from the air.
Environmentalists hope that images of rainforest destruction will make cocaine use as politically incorrect as wearing fur from animals caught in the wild. “Just telling young people that using cocaine is bad doesn’t work,†said John Sauven, executive director of Greenpeace.
“You need to change teenage culture and point out that it has all sorts of consequences. Then they start talking about it more loudly and you could get into that fur coat situation.â€
The new approach follows evidence that cocaine use is increasing among young people in the UK, partly driven by lower prices.
Some MPs believe the “save the planet†message will also appeal to environmentally conscious middle-class cocaine users.
So, the new British anti-drug campaign is that doing drugs kills the planet. Even your hybrid won't offset your cocaine footprint!

We're down to our last four teams after an interesting (and software-wise, bug-filled) fantasy season.
We've got Hay Zeus's Holy Rollers at 13-1 (Holy Shit!) vs. My Bud Army Officer Ben's Sappers at 9-5. When I look at the matchups I'm inclined to pick the Sappers but HZ has been kicking ass so reliably this season it almost seems like a stupid thing to do.
Then, we've got Moron Norm's Minnesota Vicodins at 9-5 vs Moron Joel's All Up In Your Face, also at 9-5. I'm picking All Up In Your Face because I think the Titans are going to rock and roll Miami.
It is important to note that Alice H. is this years winner of the "Detroit Lions Award" for failing utterly at Fantasy Football. She finished the season at a completely terrible 1-12. Even after her husband spotted her 5 games without starting any players, he still wound up with 4 wins. Story of the season.
Anyway, it'll be fun to finally crown DPUD's first Fantasy Football Champion. We'll be doing this again next year but the way it is done will be changed significantly. I also intend to run some Pick Em, Salary Cap and other games to spread it out.
Anyway, good luck everybody and thanks for playing you window-licking half-a-tards.

Surprisingly, Manbearpig is not the only fool who stands to profit from the steaming bag of jackholishness that is Cap & Trade and Carbon Offsets. This guy from the UN also stands to make a killing.
A story emerging out of Britain suggests "follow the money" may explain the enthusiasm of the United Nations to pursue caps on carbon emissions, despite doubts surfacing in the scientific community about the validity of the underlying global warming hypothesis.A Mumbai-based Indian multinational conglomerate with business ties to Rajendra K. Pachauri, the chairman since 2002 of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, stands to make several hundred million dollars in European Union carbon credits simply by closing a steel production facility in Britain with the loss of 1,700 jobs.----
The Tata Group headquartered in Mumbai anticipates receiving windfall profits of up to nearly $2 billion from closing the Corus Redcar steelmaking plant in Britain, with about half of the savings expected to result from cashing in on carbon credits granted the steelmaker by the European Union under the EU's emissions trading scheme…
Corus has accumulated 7.5 million European Union surplus carbon allowances, or EUAs, given the company free by the EU, after corporate officials lobbied EU officials aggressively in Brussels. The Corus-owned 7.5 million EUAs are estimated at up to $650 million; the company also anticipates "saving" 6 million tons of carbon dioxide by closing the plant and not producing the plant's capacity of 3 million tons of steel. The 6 million tons of carbon dioxide is worth an estimated $130 million at current rates and possibly as much as $325 million at expected market levels.
You know, I am starting to wonder if all of this "Green" stuff really is more about fucking the developed countries for the benefit of a few assfisters in charge of the reins of power. Fuck this shit. Fuck it with the swinging fuck bag of fuckity fuck.
But that's just me.

On the other hand, he really does have a valid point about how awful it must be to spend the rest of your professional career beset by filthy, drug-addled hippies. I bet that gets old pretty fast.

(doubleplusundead): Me personally, I'm staying the hell out of it this time around, I'm not getting mixed up in the interblog drama.
Update (doubleplusundead): The latest on l'affair Jeff and Patterico. A lot of people are following this, so we'll just add links and bump this now and then. Patterico has this up, I'll say I think Jeff looks like he was pissed off and said got sloppy, not that expect he'd admit that given how nasty things are. One nitpick, Judaism is a religion, not an ethnicity, so race card would be inaccurate, even if it is the common vernacular.
I think both Patterico and Jeff have a lot to offer to the blogosphere, and this whole thing is just becoming uglier and more counterproductive, I hope things quiet down at some point.
How I'm feeling about this whole thing.
