Last year Tim Blair put up a post with links to olden global warmmongering articles in the NY Times, it seems like a good time to repost it.
From 1923
Glaciers have disappeared and land once covered with field ice is bare.
From 1935
The great glaciers of the West, last remnants of the Ice Age on continental United States, have been retreating from their strongholds in the mountains at double time since last year.
But wait! There's still more!
From 1895
The question is again being discussed whether recent and long-continued observations do not point to the advent of a second glacial period, when the countries now basking in the fostering warmth of a tropical sun will ultimately give way to the perennial frost and snow of the polar regions.
From 1934
America is believed by Weather Bureau scientists to be on the verge of a change of climate, with a return to increasing rains and deeper snows and the colder Winters of grandfather’s day.
And my personal favorite, from 1924
Some People Always Think the Climate Is Changing, But Mr. Scarr Says There Is Nothing in His Records to Justify the Notion
But this time, this time, they're absolutely correct.
I look forward to 2011 when the Sun starts with the sunspots again and the Earth starts warming just as Al Gore notices it's been cooling.
He'll travel the world bleating about how industrialization is causing the coming ice age.
And since Gaia hates him, he'll bring heat wherever he goes.
Of course, that requires that this spring, what with all the invasions and wars, doesn't bring nukular winter.
Eh, you take the endy with the funny in this end of civilization.

Chamber of Commerce CEO Tom Donohue is a wanted man -- at least according to the liberal activist group that's put a de facto bounty on his head.A network of liberal groups known as Velvet Revolution started an ad campaign offering $200,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man whose trade organization has become a thorn in the side of the Obama administration and congressional Democrats.
The group is not leveling any specific charges of criminal behavior. Rather, it is casting a wide net, fishing for any whistleblowers from Donohue's past who might come forward with allegations of wrongdoing. The campaign against the Chamber was launched in response to the group's opposition to climate change legislation and health care reform, and its plan to spend $100 million lobbying against these and other initiatives.
Um, does anybody else remember this? (Link goes to the lefty site "Common Dreams.")
"A chill wind is blowing in this nation. A message is being sent through the White House and its allies in talk radio and Clear Channel and Cooperstown. 'If you oppose this Administration there can and will be ramifications.' Every day the airwaves are filled with warnings, veiled and unveiled threats, spewed invective and hatred directed at any voice of dissent. And the public ... sit in mute opposition and in fear."
Yeah, it sure was awful when the Baseball Hall of Fame put out a bounty on rescinded an invitation to Tim Robbins. And when the Bu$hitler White House declared war against various media outlets, using various degrees of, um, veildness.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Sure is cold out there.

South Africa has committed to reducing its carbon emissions by 34% by 2020, but says it will need financial aid from developed countries to do so.
Probably a pretty awesome, if cynical move on their part if you ask me. Volunteer to sign up for the Western ruling class's favorite pet project and they'll be sure to send a few bucks your way. Why, they'd probably give you enough money to pay for the massive, devastating collapse of your economy.
Wait, what? You barely have an economy? Well, then double fucking awesome-sauce! You'd be stupid not to!
And this, of course, is why I haven't been posting lately. Because when I get to this point of the post about environmentalism I wish I had a "fuck" button on my keyboard. It is all so ludicrous and dishonest and fucking evil I just can't understand that it is really happening.

A man was arrested for allegedly throwing two tomatoes at Sarah Palin from the second floor balcony during a book signing event at the Mall of America in Minnesota, MyFoxTwinCities.com. reported.Neither tomato came close hitting the former 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, but did hit a police officer in the face, the station reported.
Via Riehl.
I suppose I should clarify, I'm not laughing at a cop getting hit in the face. I'm laughing at the holy hell that's going to break loose when they arrest this guy.

The UK has a mixed economy. That means it's part free market and part government control. On the surface, you look at the average London street and see all the same kind of shops you'd see in, say, New York. The big difference is that, while here in the US, occassionally the FDA or some other regulatory body will step in and say, "Uh, dude, that toy has too much lead," or, "Yo, that diet pill is totally made of crack," in the UK, they can step in and say things like, "The snarky, funny labels on Vitamin Water are illegal because idiots might think they really can make you beat your granny in an arm wrestling match," or, "We have to limit the number of people who fly because they're killing the earth and stuff. Except Prince Charles. He can do whatever he wants in the name of global warming."
If the aviation industry continues to grow unchecked, passenger journeys would increase by 200% in the next 40 years, but that cannot be tolerated because carbon dioxide emitted by carriers in 2050 must not exceed 2005 levels.
"This is a very challenging target," said David Kennedy, the committee's chief executive. "Don't be deceived by the fact that demand can grow. It will have to grow by much less than if we didn't care about carbon dioxide."
Today's report says ministers must consider measures including: a carbon tax on passengers; limits on runway expansion; and restrictions on flights at existing airports. Passenger growth will have to be limited to 60% over the next four decades, compared with an increase of 130% since 1990, allowing the UK a maximum of around 370 million air travellers by 2050, from 230 million currently.
"Demand can increase, but only in a limited way," added Kennedy. The committee forecasts that unchecked airline growth would shatter emissions targets, increasing passenger numbers by 200% to 695 million per year.
Asked if fares will also have to increase in order to choke off demand, Kennedy said: "The price has to cut back some of the growth, so you do have to have rising prices."
[...]
Even with an anticipated carbon price of £200 per tonne passed on to fares, the creation of a high-speed rail network, and more use of video-conferencing to cut business travel, the committee warns that more action such as constraining airport use might be needed in order to stop the population from flying. The report singles out a "carbon tax" as one of the solutions, which would be levied on top of the £200 per tonne carbon price.
"The policy instruments which could achieve this restraint include a carbon tax on top of the forecast carbon price, limits on further airport expansion, and restrictions on the allocation of takeoff and landing slots even where airports have the theoretical capacity available," the report says.

While Harry Reid is out there telling the free world that us RACIST!!!eleventy!!! Republicans are as bad a opponents of slavery, women's rights, and civil rights, there are more people dying in the streets of Iran.
It's not a major headline on most news sites - after all, the MSM all ready covered this six months ago, and this time, there aren't compelling videos of young girls dying. In fact, journalists are on lockdown throughout the country of Iran, told not to venture outside until Wednesday at the earliest, so no one can contradict any of the Iranian state-run media reports.
The men and women in the street have some different takes on this.
"I saw three middle-aged women being shocked by members of the Basij using stun guns," a witness said in a phone call from a street near the university. "I ran away, but when I turned around I saw them lying on the street, their bodies shaking because of the shocks," he said. As he spoke, people could be heard screaming in the background.
Demonstrators battled security forces outside the university gates, another witness said.
"I can see stones flying through the air and clouds of teargas," he said in a call from Enghelab Avenue, which runs alongside the sprawling Tehran University campus. "The security forces are constantly preventing people from gathering." People waiting for buses were also being hit, the witness reported.
My thoughts and hopes are with you fine people in Iran for refusing to give up the fight and insisting on getting your voices heard. I commend you for your dedication, I mourn the losses you incur, and I hope (with, undoubtedly, less passion than you) that you will see the freedom from tyranny that you so obviously want.

If trying to push "Healthcare" and Crap & Trade bills through that would elevate the US to the vaunted shittiness and stasis of Europe, Dingy Harry has decided to take the high road on debate.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took his GOP-blasting rhetoric to a new level Monday, comparing Republicans who oppose health care reform to lawmakers who clung to the institution of slavery more than a century ago.
The Nevada Democrat, in a sweeping set of accusations on the Senate floor, also compared health care foes to those who opposed women's suffrage and the civil rights movement.
"Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all the Republicans can come up with is, 'slow down, stop everything, let's start over.' If you think you've heard these same excuses before, you're right," Reid said. "When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said 'slow down, it's too early, things aren't bad enough.'"
He continued: "When women spoke up for the right to speak up, they wanted to vote, some insisted they simply, slow down, there will be a better day to do that, today isn't quite right.
"When this body was on the verge of guaranteeing equal civil rights to everyone regardless of the color of their skin, some senators resorted to the same filibuster threats that we hear today."
My answer:

Second, what has always, always pissed me off about the fight about anthropogenic global warming is how it completely shifts the focus away from actual, real problems. I mean it. I do believe in conservation. To paraphrase PJ O'Rourke, sure, a clean environment is a luxury good but aren't luxury goods what make life worth living? The fight about whether or not an Escalade kills polar bears shifts attention away from issues such as whether or not mountains in West Virginia should be mined down in order to reach the mercury to make the batteries for Priuses (Prii? Smugmobiles?) Hell, fighting over whether or not to mandate using CFLs for THE POLAR BEAR CHILDREN kind of glides right past the issue as to whether or not CFLs are actually worse, what with the whole potentially toxic exposure to mercury when one breaks.
What about China and India and other developing countries? Should people in those lands be forced to live in early Industrial Age squallor or are there alternatives? What is the tradeoff between alternate energy sources and the view from the Kennedy Compound? What about endangered species? What happens when there is actual dumping of toxic substances? Who pays? What's the successor liability? How much am I, as the consumer, willing to pay in order to reduce pollution? Why the hell isn't our power coming from nuclear plants such as is done in France? Does recylcing actually work? If so, for what goods? What do we do about disposing of our waste?
All of these are serious questions that deserve serious discussion. And yet, all of that is getting shoved aside because omg you must believe that humans are hurting Gaia or you, sir, are worse that Hitler. It pisses me off to no end. Hell, if I were a more conspiracy minded sort, I would say that this is exactly the type of situation that Big Business would want. After all, if global warming gets debunked, who is going to listen to complaints about benzene disposal affecting water tables?
One can be unpersuaded by the theory that mankind's actions are the major cause of the current warming period and still be a conservationist. That's getting lost in all of the screeching.
No, I do not want to cease using all fossil fuels tomorrow. But, yes, I do want to look into alternatives. I do care about habitat destruction. I live in a former coal mining area and I know first hand the problems with mine collapses and water table contamination. Hell, I've done some professional work on liability for gas leaks from underground storage tanks resulting in contamination of drinking water for a whole area. These problems are real and need work. But when the options are the destruction of the modern way of life or ignoring those altogether, well, I'm going with ignoring. And the options being reduced to those truly ticks me off.

One of the country's most important industrial companies says the United States is not a good place to manufacture and it will continue moving its assets offshore.
The federal government is "doing everything in [its] manpower [and] capability to destroy U.S. manufacturing," says David Farr, chairman and CEO of Emerson Electric Co., in a presentation at the Baird 2009 Industrial Conference in Chicago Ill., on Nov. 11. In comments reported by Bloomberg, Farr added that companies will continue adding jobs in China and India because they are "places where people want the products and where the governments welcome you to actually do something. I am not going to hire anybody in the United States. I'm moving. They are doing everything possible to destroy jobs."
In his Powerpoint presentation available on the Emerson Electric Web site, Farr notes that the federal government is damaging prospects for U.S. economic growth with a $1.41 trillion federal deficit (10 percent of GDP); $12 trillion in government debt that will grow to $20 trillion in 10 years; a policy of printing money; a "non-targeted $800-billion stimulus"; bailouts for Wall Street and the automobile companies; the prospect for cap and trade legislation; a "government takeover" of health care to the tune of more than $1 trillion; increasing taxes and regulations; and a "lack of U.S. $ support" for manufacturing. The global stimulus "soon will fade," says Farr.
What more can I add?

The episode is apparently going to be about some talk show host who has "brainwashed" some idiot into killing a guy. I couldn't quite tell when the host was on the stand if it was supposed to be Rush Beck or Glenn Limbaugh. Just the 30 seconds or so that I saw made me roll my eyes so hard I thought they were going to roll out of my head.
Fuck. You. NBC. I know it's not news that one of the main people in charge of the L&O franchise is an enormous lib who has openly stated that he wants to use the show to push an agenda. What offends me is how boring and obvious and banal it all is. Law & Order, any and all of them, is now a huge joke. Who did it? The white male Republican Christian businessman. Every. Freaking. Time. Seriously, it's insultingly stupid and takes all the drama out of the show. It's like watching CSI Miami in breathless anticipation to see if this will be the episode where Caruso takes his sunglasses off dramatically.
Fuck you NBC. Fuck you L&O. You hate me? Fine. I'll just not watch. See, you need me way way way way more than I need you. Oh and NBC? How are those financials doing? Hmmmmm? Maybe, I'm tossing this out there as an idea, pissing off 35% or so of your target audience isn't the best idea ever.

The furor is now a full-blown media event dubbed Climategate, and very near its center are Christy, Alabama's state climatologist, a handful of other researchers and, to a lesser extent, Christy's fellow researcher at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Dr. Roy Spencer, also known as "the official climatologist of the Rush Limbaugh Show."
Christy was named in 51 of about 1,000 e-mails either hacked or leaked late last month from the University of East Anglia in eastern England. Spencer was named in 15.
The British university's Hadley Climatic Research Unit (CRU) is one of the world's leading centers for climate study. On its staff are prominent advocates of the theory that people are causing global warming by releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere from auto exhausts and power plants.
The e-mails were between CRU scientists and other climate researchers at such top laboratories as California's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. They concerned how to minimize skeptics such as Christy, and how to adjust data that don't seem to support their view.
One of the advocates and e-mailers, CRU Director Phil Jones, stepped down last week pending an investigation.
The 51 references made Christy second only to Canadian global-warming skeptic Stephen McIntyre as a subject of discussion.
Since the e-mails first appeared Nov. 19, Christy has been quoted by news organizations around the world including, in America, CBS News, the Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio and the New York Times.
Thanks to Cuffy.

Fuck you three ways from tomorrow with a jockstrap soaked in liquid heat tied to a supercharged pogo stick. You fucking don't like what we have to offer here? Fine. Offer suggestions. Tell us what we are doing wrong. Point out our fucking flaws. But don't fucking come over here, throw shit like that around, and then run away, you big fucking pussy. Be a fucking man and stand by your comments.
Seriously, Jim Big Fucking Pussy Oswald, my four year old daughter and my wife probably have more fucking balls than you. At least when they insult my friends, pursuits, or me, they provide a reason and a solution. You? You fucking Archduke of Assgrabbingdicksnigglin, you come here, and don't offer any fucking suggestions. How fucking weak is that?
Even though this isn't my site, I would hope that the proprietor, Mr. DPUD himself, would cordially invite you to return, so that you can improve his site. If not that, then at least go stick a herpes infected hedgehog up your ass if you don't.
So fuck off, Jim Big Fucking Pussy Oswald. Fuck off with new guttering.

We've been talking about Natalie Portman's Black Swan for a few weeks now, and it wasn't until like five minutes ago that we discovered the term "Black Swan" has nothing to do with her vagina.Um, is that a euphemism that I hadn't heard of before or something? Because that's not where my mind immediately goes when I hear that title.
I mean, sure, it goes there eventually...
