Obama Science Czar Favors Witch Trials

The beleaguered Obama transition team was hit with another scandal today, this time centering around the newly-created position of Science Czar.  The nominee, Katherine Welch-Gimsley, said in an interview in 2008 that she favored "old-fashioned methods of scientific rigor."

When asked a follow-up question in a Senate hearing on Wednesday, though, Welch-Gimsley, who has a PHD in the History of Scientificalism from Harvard and owes $425,000 in back taxes, clarified her remarks as follows:

"Old fashioned means that if two scientists disagree, we have them fight a duel, knowing that whoever wins has been ordained correct by the scientific forces of nature.  And those who dispute the decrees of science, such as Pluto enthusiasts or Climate Change denialists, will be given the classical paradigm choices: either dunked under water until they recant, or hanged by the neck until dead.  This will also serve to decrease the surplus population, a worthy goal regardless of the forum of discussion."

Senator Harry Reid quickly disagreed, saying that "I favor, and I think that my colleagues will agree, drawing and quartering climate change deniers, because it is a far more environmentally friendly activity and produces more union jobs than a simple hangman."

An unnamed group of Republican senators were quoted by insiders as saying that they were prepared to cut a deal to confirm Welch-Gimsley anyways, in return for being allowed to bathe in the reflected glow of Barack Obama.
