Because the police Commissioner called their son an idiot during an interview. 

Of course said idiot was called an idiot because he decided to jump back into his car during a stop, grab a gun in the car and shoot and injure two police officers, who returned fire and killed him.  No, sorry, your kid is an idiot, and that's putting it mildly.
