Suck it, Hugo!

Korea beat Venezuela like a red-headed stepchild in tonight's World Baseball Classic semifinal game at Dodger Stadium.  I can't wait for Chavez to make a rambling speech calling the Korean team and the umpires "capitalist lackeys" or some such thing.

Since I keep thinking it's Friday

I'm taking a mini vacation this week (ie sitting on my couch watching basketball for four days straight), so this was my Friday.  Which is v v confusing.  Anyway, since I think it's Friday, I thought I'd post some Friday Night Pr0n.

You know what?  I don't care how good or bad it is, Wolverine is just going to be pure and utter snickety snickety pretty boy porn.  I'm spectacularly fine with that.

Intent

Goldstein expounds delightfully on the nature of language and intent.*

* - I bring this up in the interest of engaging the debate about receivers of information being able to twist that information in ways the speaker did not intend and, do not intend**,  to imply any opinion or reference to the now infamous four fucking words of doom.

As it applies to that, I will just say that there is a difference between linguistically, morally and politically good/bad/right/wrong and I think the event falls into different categories depending on which angle you're using.  It was almost certainly impolitic but definitely morally defensible and clearly linguistically acceptible.

What's the term for that?  Inartful?  Maybe that.

** - Please ignore the fact that I've discussed this.  I just think it is important that J.G.'s battle against victim interpretation be successful.  If it is not, it won't matter what Rush said because we'll all be incapable of speaking our minds.  Hell, we already are to a large extent.

I Have An Idea To Bring Us All Together

Some of the recent activity withing the Moronosphere has become quite heated and contentious over the last few weeks.

But, I think I have the solution that will bring us all back together:

When They Ban Fish Tanks, Only The Criminals Will Have Fish Tanks

Sheesh. Arguning over $3 is one thing. But using this as a weapon? C'mon!

Daniel L. Winter, 26, spent Monday evening at a strip joint called Calendar Girls in Port Richey. A few minutes before midnight, his friends -- Ashley Decicco, 18, and her boyfriend Shaun Nater, 30 -- picked him up and they all ate at a Burger King. Afterward, as Decicco drove her car northward on U.S. 19, she asked Winter for the $3 in gas money.

Winter, who was sitting in the back of the car, said no. He couldn't pay it, he said, because his rent was due -- even though he had just been at Calendar Girls and eaten at Burger King.

Then, according to authorities, they argued and Winter slapped Decicco in the face as she drove.

This enraged her boyfriend, Nater, so he twisted around from the front passenger seat and punched Winter, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Then Winter grabbed the fish tank.

It just happened to be in the back seat of the car. He allegedly beat Nater with it, but the fish tank had no effect on Nater, according to a report, so Winter grabbed another weapon -- a beer bottle, also from the back seat. Authorities say Winter pummeled Nater with the beer bottle, but Nater was able to wrestle it away from him -- all while Decicco drove along U.S. 19.

After getting the bottle from his friend, Nater bashed it over Winter's head several times until it broke, authorities said.

This brawl on U.S. 19 continued until Decicco pulled the car over in a Denny's parking lot and called deputies, Pasco deputies said.

Jim Cramer Fires Back At Obama's Defenders

Nice.

Take Frank Rich and Jon Stewart. Both seize on the urban legend that I recommended Bear Stearns the week before it collapsed, even though I was saying that I thought it could be worthless as soon as the following week. I did tell an emailer that his deposit in his account at Bear Stearns was safe, but through a clever sound bite, Stewart, and subsequently Rich -- neither of whom have bothered to listen to the context of the pulled quote -- pass off the notion of account safety as an out-and-out buy recommendation. The absurdity astounds me. [...]

We need to declare a war on unemployment and solve it before we let it get out of hand. We need to stop house-price depreciation. Neither the pork-laden stimulus plan nor the confusing mortgage proposal put forward by Obama will defeat either enemy. When Obama trounces both unemployment and house-price depreciation, he will have the power to enact anything he wants. But all the initiatives he wants to rush, like tax hikes, changes in health care, tinkering with the mortgage deduction -- good grief, right now in the midst of the worst housing downturn ever -- and the tough cap-and-trade rules, will derail any chance we have of turning this economy around. Instead, they put the Second Great Depression smack on the nation's table. The markets thought he could stop it; hence the giant relief rally when he was elected. But in fewer than 50 days of his ascendancy, the markets' hopes were totally dashed and the averages are now forecasting the worst decline since the Great Depression. As someone who listens to what the averages are screaming, I think they are accurately predicting the future. [...]

(Oh, and memo to Bill Maher: Stop insulting my faux great-great-uncle Vlad Lenin. I am using him to dramatize the point of a failed nationalization and confiscation of the banks at the hands of the people. It is funny how the right is certainly very civil as my old friends and new allies as of last week, Fred Barnes and Sean Hannity, don't hold my left wing social view against me when they talk about my criticism of the president! I always love anyone from Fox on the team because they are fierce in their defense with much less gratuitous slamming.)

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go watch Sin City.  She's got a collection, don't you know.

Fine, fine, the markets are tanking, the FDIC is going broke, I'm getting blisters from my new shoes and Obama figures bankrupting the county is just the thing to get nationalized healthcare. Fine.

Let's focus on the important here.

Boosting the Philly Police Department

Kinda nice thing, folks in Philly are trying to offer a show of support for the Philly PD, while Geno's is again donating a days profits to a worthy cause, this time to the families of fallen officers.  Fellow moron and Philly detective Wyatt can tell you this has been a pretty rough year for the Philly Police Department, having lost several officers to violent career criminals, and are now facing budget and staffing cuts to add insult to injury.  So if you're in Philly for some reason, maybe treat yourself to a cheesesteak and wear something bright blue today.

Sweet: NRA torpedoes unconstitutional DC representation bill

See, this is why I admire the NRA and the other pro-2nd organizations (and I don't count the Brady front group AHSA among them), and gun nuts in general.  They don't cave, and the only time they compromise is when it ultimately serves their interest in the end, with a very, very small handful of exceptions.  This is one of those times where their refusal to cave is going to serve us nicely

As you'll recall, the Senate voted to give DC a House rep, despite the fact it is explicitly unconstitutional to do so.  Fortunately, Senator Ensign decided to add an amendment to the bill which would force DC into compliance with the Second Amendment, basically ending all the little bullshit abuses DC was heaping on to spite the Heller decision.

The Democrats in the House tried to strip that amendment, and the NRA declared the Ensign amendment a key issue, which means it goes onto the scorecard, i.e., vote the right way, Democrats, or you'll get 94'd again.  Pelosi folded.  I'm not happy that we're trading a horribly unconstitutional thing for a constitutional thing, but we're stuck doing this kind of thing until we smack some sense into the GOP leadership, and this was a pretty big tactical and psychological win for the NRA.

More Future News

(Note: Living as I do near the Hadron Collider, I expected strange things to occur once they'd fired that thing up. And lo and behold, I have started receiving e-mail updates of news from the future, just like that show Early Edition except with a lot bigger audience. So I'm going to pass along to you my news updates from the future.)

Two Arrested in Blockbuster Sting

Police in Brooklyn Heights stormed a Blockbuster Video last night, arresting the owner and two clerks on charges of distributing insensitive and harmful materials in violation of the 2009 Racial Reconciliation and Respect Act. Officers seized all DVD and videotape copies of four films, each of which was on the RRRA list of Socially Unacceptable Films.
