Another Thought On McDonald vs City of Chicago

I'm not saying this is the end of all gun control argument but I will say this:  It is the end of any contemporary chance that the U.S. goes the way of gunless Europe and Britain.

We have, essentially, won.  Guns will not be made illegal any time in my lifetime which means that we won't be overwhelmed by physical tyranny any time soon.  I think I'll drink to that tonight.

Personal stuff update

I wanted to give a quick update as to what's going on with the BFF.  The original CT scan showed a mass so she had a biopsy done a few weeks ago.  That biopsy came back showing an irregular mass but no definite sign of cancer.  Since then she's had a bone scan and another CT scan with dye and I think some other test.  She heard today that those scans show no evidence of cancer.

She's still very ill and can't hold down solid food but, right now, all the tests are coming up negative for cancer.  Presumably, the next step is going to be removal of the mass.  She should hear about that either later this week or next week.

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers and all the rest.  It means more to me than I can possibly express.

If you can't say anything nice...

which is why I'm merely going to mention that Senator Robert Byrd has passed on to the rally-which-type-I-shall-not-mention that's probably not in the sky.

Clearly God loves me

Otherwise why would Megapython vs. Gatoroid starring Debbie Gibson AND Tiffany be made.

I rest my case.

Politically incorrect

Something tells me that Jon Voight isn't going to be invited to the next White House sing-along:

An open letter from actor Jon Voight to President Obama:

June 22, 2010

President Obama:

You will be the first American president that lied to the Jewish people, and the American people as well, when you said that you would defend Israel, the only Democratic state in the Middle East, against all their enemies. You have done just the opposite. You have propagandized Israel, until they look like they are everyone's enemy — and it has resonated throughout the world. You are putting Israel in harm's way, and you have promoted anti-Semitism throughout the world.

He doesn't exactly get much less scathing in the rest, which you should also read.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the careers of people like Voight. If there's any evidence that they get blocked from working in Hollywood because of their political views, that whole "McCarthyism!!!!" charge isn't gonna go away, but it sure will be fun to shove back into certain peoples' goddamn faces.

Ouch.

In which VDH lays the smack down.

Best (by which I mean bitchiest) parts?

No matter: Every president attracts the unhinged. So why, the voters thought, not give a pass to all that — or even to Obama’s own embarrassing “beer summit” (presidents, you see, have free afternoons and so can involve themselves in campus politics when favorite academics  rail about racial unfairness).

And this.

If Bill Clinton or Al Gore is any guide, he can make a billion or two sermonizing and philosophizing for the next forty years. If Jimmy Carter can create an empire of self-absorption, any president can.

I do so love seeing VDH get all testy.  He does it with such grace and style.

Clearly the best movie news site ever.

In recent weeks, my Twitter feed has been filled with RTs from one site: FilmDrunk.com.  This brief comment on Karate Kid for example:

It’s currently tracking 53% on RottenTomatoes, which means that, if you were to divorce it from all historical contexts and future implications, the movie itself probably isn’t that bad.  (The most satisfactory movie of summer, said Shrugsworth McWhogivesafuk)  However, as the old saying goes, you vote with your pocketbook, and the last thing I want to vote for is to give more celebrities the ability to buy a movie so that their booger-faced wiener kid can play Celebrity Rockband with some sh*t I’ve already seen 100 times on cable.  But hey, that’s just me.

What turned me on to it (*hey sailor*) was this post on Marmaduke's movie poster's though:
Marmaduke has a new poster out, and as you can see, it’s a shot across the bow of all other family comedies.  The days of your half-assed, one-animal-in-sunglasses poster designs are numbered.  Marmaduke has changed the game.  Upped the ante.  Raised the bar. Put MORE SUNGLASSES on MORE ANIMALS! (*air guitar*) The world demands it.

I die.  His twitter feed is here

How to tell Obama is really over

He's being mocked in a text on texts from last night.

The comments are hilarious too, particularly the first one.

Warning:  TFLN can become addictive.  Though it's helpful if you want to feel better about your entire life and life choices.

Awesome: Vicar calls town to mandatory archery practice

She found that local law still permitted her to call for townsfolk to practice archery on Sundays, said law had never been revoked since its creation in the Middle Ages.  Food and drink were provided for those that actually did play along and went to loose some arrows.  I hope the town has a good sense of humor and plays along, and maybe even rediscovers and revives an old tradition, I think it'd be cool as hell to see people all practicing with longbows on a nice Sunday afternoon.

Wow

/images/strasburgfirst.jpg
(update, that's Strasburg's first pitch)
I hate to step on ATC's post (best wishes), but....
I just got back from Strasburg's first game with the Nationals.
Holy moly.
14Ks, 0BBs with 94 pitches.
Orel Hershiser just said that was ridiculous, he should have thrown at least114 for that many Ks.
14Ks and no walks. 14 freaking strike outs and no walks. He's the first rookie to do that and the 6th ever since 1900.
Think of that. He's done something that's barely been done in 110 years. Yeah, it was against a suck team but still. 110 years.

Dammit. I gave up on baseball in about 2001. Between the last strike and the Mets getting rid of fan favorites for Mo Vaugh I was done. I stopped getting the baseball package in 2001.
When the Nats came to DC I became a fan. Why not? I didn't have to worry about them winning, I could just enjoy the game.

Being a Nats fan has been easy. You watch until the 7th and then go to bed or go home if you're at the game (because you knew they were going to lose no matter the score).
This year? I have to watch the whole damn game and get upset when they lose all while watching what the other teams are doing.

You know how the Braves were so good in the 90s? Well, the Nats have some great young pitchers and some darn good young hitters.
Apcray. Next year is going to be worse, I'll be thinking championship.

Eh, there are worse things, I could still be a Mets fan and have to deal with $100mil+ payroll for 70 wins.

Hey Mickey!

I've mentioned before that I've got to hand it to Mickey Kaus for actually running for Senate to make his point. This has brought about comedy gold like his debate of an actual box when Boxer didn't show (I maintain that the box was better). Now? He's listed the jobs he'll take as a bribe to drop out.

Seriously, stuff like this is what will make this story stick.

Apparently? In Sweden? Horse jumping while towing a guy on rollerblades behind the horse is a sport. Like. Really.

Maybe the world wants to be conned?

The Flotilla Choir sings We Con the World
Heh.
Heh! I say.
I watched the whole thing. It stays pretty good.
Abu Dylan made my day, Caroline Glick's appearance was spot on except I do have to thank her for one thing, she shouldn't have shaved her pits for authenticity but did for decency.
Bravo.
