Sweet: NRA torpedoes unconstitutional DC representation bill
See, this is why I admire the NRA and the other pro-2nd organizations (and I don't count the Brady front group AHSA among them), and gun nuts in general. They don't cave, and the only time they compromise is when it ultimately serves their interest in the end, with a very, very small handful of exceptions. This is one of those times where their refusal to cave is going to serve us nicely.
As you'll recall, the Senate voted to give DC a House rep, despite the fact it is explicitly unconstitutional to do so. Fortunately, Senator Ensign decided to add an amendment to the bill which would force DC into compliance with the Second Amendment, basically ending all the little bullshit abuses DC was heaping on to spite the Heller decision.
The Democrats in the House tried to strip that amendment, and the NRA declared the Ensign amendment a key issue, which means it goes onto the scorecard, i.e., vote the right way, Democrats, or you'll get 94'd again. Pelosi folded. I'm not happy that we're trading a horribly unconstitutional thing for a constitutional thing, but we're stuck doing this kind of thing until we smack some sense into the GOP leadership, and this was a pretty big tactical and psychological win for the NRA.
