Steampunk. Is there nothing it can't do?

I found this article on the rise of steampunk to be interesting, particularly since I'm wearing a piece of steampunk jewelry at work today. It's a necklace consisting of a reworked transistor radio vacuum tube. Everyone is staring at it and one person actually knew what it was.

I'm also adopting this as my official life philosophy:

Steampunk is both optimistic and nihilistic. I like to think of this attitude as Gleehilism.

Gleehilism. I like that. It sums up the Funniest End of Civilization quite nicely. Plus this way I'll have a response when the BFF meanly calls me a cockeyed optimist. Am skary Princess of Death. Grr.

Oh and speaking of steampunk, if you haven't read Soulless run and do so now.  It's this utterly hilarious smashup of Bronte, steampunk, Victorian mores and urban fantasy.  I am a wee bit bitter that I didn't write it.  Tiny bit.
